History of Magic Professor Grayson Powell Everyday 9:00am to 9:45am (Updated on Sundays)
Grayson Powell had his feet propped up on his desk as he was seated reading yet another book. Next to his desk was a globe the size of a stove, while a stone tablet covered with hieroglyphics sat on the other side. A list of rules and expectations was listed on the chalkboard behind him, and two bookcases sat on either side of it brimming with books. He seemed totally engrossed with what he was reading, and didn't seem to notice any students filing in. Rules of the Classroom Do not come to class late. No disruptive behavior, fighting, or swearing. Do not interrupt lecture. Raise your hand if you have any questions. Please feel free to speak openly only when open discussions are permitted. Come to class prepared with paper, quills, and a copy of A History of Magic by Bathilda Bagshot. Failure to comply with these rules will result in loss of points and/or detention!

Former Ravenclaw Grayson stopped reading his book as more and more of the students for the class walked in. He looked over each of them, wondering not for the first time if any of them would be interested in what he'd teach. He remembered Binns and the way he put most students to sleep, and decided that he would at least try to not put any of the students to sleep. He took his feet off the desk and stood, hoping that by doing so, he would at least give off a presence instead of looking bored. "Hello class, and welcome to History of Magic. I am your new professor, Grayson Powell. I know that perhaps most of you don't remember much from the last year, so I figured that for this first class, we would review what you learned last year, just to brush up before we jump headlong into this year's curriculum." He looked about, making sure that everyone was paying attention, before continuing. "Can anyone here tell me precisely what you have learned last year? You don't have to give me the full information, as I would prefer to see if everyone payed attention in class. One subject per student, if you would."

Jayden Michael Cloud Mood: Happy What I am doing: Not really anything What I want to be doing: Romantic Stroll with Tristain Jayden walked into his history class, not really knowing who the teacher was. They had a long-term substitute last year; so Jayden really had no idea what to expect. But as he walked in, a young face caught his eye. The man was tall, and young, which he found surprising. When thinking of a history professor, his head always conjured up some sort of older man or woman, who was just on the brink of retirement, but this man really contradicted those images. Jayden sat down and looked at the teacher, not really knowing what to say at the moment. He then figured something out.
"Uhm...last year...we learned about the Chamber of Secrets and what precisely happened there over the many years up until now. It was very interesting I must say," Jayden said, not really forgetting anything about that lecture. He rather enjoyed it, which was a first for him. He always saw history as a bland, and rather boring subject, but he always kept his head up high when there was something that interested him. The Chamber of Secrets is one of those subjects that most definitely interested him.

History of Magic wasn't one of Tristain's most favorite classes, but she certainly didn't mind any opportunity to learn. Not to mention that the new teacher who stood at the front of the class wasn't anything painful to look at, himself...
As she swept into the class, greeting the man shyly, her eyes scanned the room for her one and only second-year friend. Last year, she had spent all of her time with either Jayden, Phi, or a combination of her brother and his friends, that she hadn't exactly been confronted with any social opportunities. Perhaps this year that would be her goal, to expand her friendships by breaking down that wall of timidness and security that she so often hid behind.
Despite this quick mental decision, she couldn't help but tow her body over to where Jayden sat and make herself at home. Maybe that friendship expansion could start tomorrow...
When Professor Powell suggested that each person list a topic that they learned last year, Tristain let Jay speak first, before putting her own hand in the air. "We also learned about the history of Hogwarts, Professor, including each of the school's four founders." Subtly, the girl made an effort to impose her new expanding-personality rule by speaking in a much louder, more confident voice, although she didn't bother to take out the note of professionalism; after all, this was a classroom."Love to faults is always blind, always is to joy inclined. Lawless, winged, and unconfined, and breaks all chains from every mind."- William Shakespeare

Adair Reynolds History of Magic always did seem like a natural fit for Adair. With all of the intake of knowledge and the studying it would always feel like home, or at least his comfort zone, no matter what. Stepping into the room, he felt the cozy aura wash over him as it had the previous year. "Hello Professor Powell," he greeted as he headed for a seat. Once he'd gotten out all of his required materials for the day, he began assessing what the Professor had asked. 'What had they learned last year'.... hmm....what had they learned? His mind was drawing a blank and he decided to play it cool and let Jayden handle this one. The Gryffindor did seem to be on a roll these past few days. ooc: posting as Rhea tomorrow

Former Ravenclaw Grayson walked into the classroom, eyes already taking in the room. He walked up to the chalkboard and, picking up a piece of chalk, quickly wrote something on the board. Placing the chalk down, he looked over the class. "Welcome back, class. Last time, we went over what you had previously learned in class last year. Today we're going to be going over the history of the Ollivander family.
"The Ollivander family arrived in England around the time the Romans did about 382 BC, when the first Ollivander arrived. Upon seeing the quality of wands the ancient Britons used, he decided to set up shop and provide a better quality to the people here.
His descendants practiced the art of wandmaking, each successive generation building upon the knowledge of the previous. Each brought a distinctive viewpoint viewpoint to the craft, and even specialized to suit their needs, as well as the needs of the wizarding community. The last Ollivander to own the wandshop, Garrick, even went as far as to ensure that only the finest products would go into each wand, and also had a knack for remembering every wand ever sold in his shop."He looked about the classroom. "Now, if you have any questions, please feel free to ask them. I'm pretty sure that there are some floating about in your heads, and I have no problem answering them."

Jayden Michael Cloud Mood: Tired What I am doing: listening What I want to be doing: Sleeping...
Jayden walked into the classroom, slightly tired. He had mot gotten sleep last night. He honestly has been suffering from minor insomnia lately, amd he could not do anything but wade it out. He wondered if there was some sort of potion that could cure it, but he would not admit that he was suffering from it. He listened to the teacher, not having any questions when the man finished the lecture either.

Clare liked history, it wasn't her best subject, but she liked it. As she entered she found her seat next to Adair. She looked up at the teacher and listened as he spoke about the Ollivander Family.

Tristain entered the class with a renewed smile, greeting the professor before taking her seat next to Jayden without hesitation. It all seemed so silly now. The awkwardness, the silence. In the end, Jayden was her bestfriend, and only now did she know that nothing could ever change that.
In silence, she removed her notebook from her book bag, along with a brand new self-inking quill, and began to take notes on the Ollivander Family, something she—surprisingly—knew nothing about. However, by the end of the class, she was more than knowledgeable, and couldn't manage to come up with a question for the professor that might aid in her learning."Love to faults is always blind, always is to joy inclined. Lawless, winged, and unconfined, and breaks all chains from every mind."- William Shakespeare

≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎ Grayson Powell History of Magic Professor Former Ravenclaw ≎≎≎≎≎≎≎≎ Now where did I put that wand?Grayson strode into the classroom, ready to teach. So far, this class had seemed uneventful, however, he had some things in mind for today's class. He wondered about the students' resonses as he wrote the topic for the day on the chalkboard."Today we're going to talk about the Deathly Hallows. For those from Wizarding failies, you may have heard of them before, usually as a bedtime story. However, it would do to inform your classmates of the topic, since they may not know.
"The Deathly Hallows are three highly powerful magical objects supposedly created by Death and given to each of three brothers in the Peverell family. They consisted of the Elder Wand, an immensely powerful wand that was considered undefeatable; the Resurrection Stone, a stone which could summon the spirits of the dead, and the Cloak of Invisibility, which, as its name suggests, renders the user completely invisible. According to the story, both Antioch Peverell (owner of the Wand) and Cadmus Peverell (owner of the Stone) came to bad ends. However, Ignotus Peverell's wisdom in requesting the Cloak was rewarded. "According to legend, he who possesses these three artefacts would become the Master of Death. The story of the Deathly Hallows was originally told by Beedle the Bard and subsequently passed from family to family as a wizard fairytale. Few wizards ever realized that the Deathly Hallows were genuine items. Most people thought that there were things that Beedle had made up to entertain young wizards and witches. "No one but Harry Potter has been known to have been in command of all three at the same time, though he was never in possession of them all at once. Albus Dumbledore had possessed all three, but not all at once, similar to Harry, but he was never the true owner of the Cloak. The Cloak was handed down to Harry Potter from his father through Albus Dumbledore, and the Stone was left to him in Dumbledore's will, hidden inside a Golden Snitch. Harry Potter gained the allegiance, but not physical possession, of the Elder Wand upon overpowering Draco Malfoy at Malfoy Manor. Although Draco had mastery of the Elder wand for a time, having gained its allegiance upon disarming Dumbledore before his death, he never knew of it. Potter never made use of more than two Hallows at once because he never had more than two at once.
"Now, here's the question for each of you. I know it's tempting for anyone, but out of the three, which one Hallow would you posess, and why?" ---------------------------------- Location: History of Magic classroom State: Teaching OOC: Sorry it's a week late, just trying to catch up. ----------------------------------

Tristain took extensive notes on the Deathly Hallows. Of course she already knew all about them, but the excitement rising inside of her could not be extinguished, nonetheless.
The Ravenclaw had also given much thought to the very question that Professor Powell posed. The wand would not be very advantageous for her, she could care less about power. The ring...it was a tempting thought, especially after the loss of her cousin Gavin, but the Tales of Beedle the Bard had clearly explained whoever returned to life would not truly be repaired, nor happy, for that matter. But the cloak--yes, the cloak. Oh how she would love the privacy it would give her, not to mention the abundance of opportunities.
"I would choose the cloak," she told the professor after being the first to raise her hand, "if not for any other reason than that I would scarcely find the power of the other two Deathly Hallows to be anything but disastrous in any wizard's hands.""Love to faults is always blind, always is to joy inclined. Lawless, winged, and unconfined, and breaks all chains from every mind."- William Shakespeare
