Akatta was sitting in front of her den, eyeing the interior with a tiny frown event though she was far from unhappy with it. On the contrary, the den was spacious and dry, Akatta made sure the thralls kept it clean and there were plenty of pretty trinkets – proof of her husband’s successful vikings - that made the space seem more colorful and welcoming. Still, the dark lioness felt there was something missing. At the moment, that was her husband whose return Akatta was awaiting but something else lingered on her mind, encouraged by the recent words of her friends. The dark lioness had started to think about what it would be like to have one, two or perhaps even more little balls of fur running around the den. Little versions of Njal and herself to bring even more joy into their lives. Her husband being so busy lately, Akatta didn’t really know out to breach the subject but this yearning didn’t seem to be subsiding and the lioness was determined to say something today.

That was the sort of thing he liked. Njal didn't demand that his wife be waiting for him, because even he didn't always know when he'd return. But the lion had to admit, he loved the sight of Akatta sitting in front of the den, waiting for him. Perhaps they hadn't initially married out of love, but he did truly love his wife. She was always a pleasure to come home to, gushy as that may sound.

"I could never kill you, Akatta." He greeted her, playing on the typical stormborn greeting with a smile. She was the only individual he could bear being even a little sappy with. He was a little tired after a long day, though, and once he had reached the den, Njal seemed quite happy to sit just outside with her.

The dark lioness’ ears perked up as her head turned to face the lion and she gave him a wide smile before standing up and gracefully stepping closer to meet him half way.

“I should hope not, oh husband of mine.” Akatta replied in a slightly playful tone before rubbing her neck softly on Njal’s mane and shoulder. Looking into the violet eyes of the strong young lion, she felt a wave of warmth run through her, one that had grown stronger with each passing day from the moment they had been wed. She had always assumed she’d fall in love with the lion her parents chose for her but Akatta had never expected those feeling to grow so quickly and become so intense that she could no longer imagine her life without him. She wondered briefly if she was the only one in the world who got to see this softer side of Njal and that thought filled her with happiness and pride. She was his and he was hers.

“Tired?” She asked quietly, eyes with dancing flames lifting up to take a good look at her husband’s expression. “I had a thrall bring a zebra leg to the den in case you were hungry.” Njal had been acting a little differently lately and Akatta had not failed to notice it. She hoped the food would help. Zebras had good, strong bones that one could chew for hours in order to occupy the mind with that basic task, slowly releasing the tension from one’s body.

He smiled at the touch, dipping his head so he could return it and look down at her. "I'm never tired." Naturally he'd deny it, but Njal knew Akatta could probably see through such an obvious lie. He didn't mind in the least.

"A zebra? Sounds like a treat. I'll get to is soon." He wasn't quite ready to eat yet, because he really would enjoy a little catch up with Akatta. they hadn't been spending much time together lately. "Was your day good? See any more of your friends?"

Akatta’s smile grew wider but she did not call him out on the little lie. Njal was the living embodiment of what the dark lioness considered to be a true Stormborn lion. Strong, bold, a little rough around the edges perhaps but never one to whine when things weren’t perfect. And his little deception could hardly count as a sign of dishonesty when his true feelings were so very obvious. Akatta really loved this fool of hers.

“It was a good day. Quiet for the most the part.” The lioness admitted, slowly making her way to the den. “I went to see the Oulanders spar. I was curious to see how they’d fare against those of the old blood.”

Njal didn't really mind that her day was slow, probably because he was sort of glad. He didn't want his wife getting involved in anything too big or distressing for her. He even worried a bit that she might be bothered, ever since his own encounter with Kazul. He just wanted her to be comfortable, and safe, and happy.

"Oh, really? How did the Outlanders fare?" He imagined the old blood lions. He had no real issue with outlanders, as long as they were the sort of outlanders that had joined by proving their worth. But a silly little sense of pride still made him prefer the old blood lions.

“Better than I had expected, I admit.” Akatta said with some humor in her voice. “There are so many new faces in the pride that I wondered if we were going too easy on the askoruns.” Gracefully she moved to the bedding where she lay down with slow and deliberate movements, settling herself comfortably on the spot. “I think I was wrong. A few seemed a little green but all showed potential. Maybe they’ll balance out the increasing thrall blood in our lines.” Her last words were spoken in her usual soft voice, without a hint of meanness in them. It was a fact that unproven lions who were born out of the pride’s slaves were joining their ranks as full members and Akatta greatly disliked this situation, this mingling of the old iron blood with the weaker form of the thrallborn.

“I did see a cheetah near the border yesterday. I don’t think I told you about it yet.” She didn’t like lingering on bothersome matters for too long. The den was a place of rest and peace, not worry and tension. “She had a magnificent coat, like the night sky with stars and mist. She would’ve made a lovely thrall.”

That was good to hear, and Njal didn't resent the news at all. He happily followed his mate to the furs, but sat instead of lying. If he lay down he might just not want to get up, and he did still want to have a go at that zebra. Mmm, zebra. "Mmm, maybe one of these days I'll go with you." If he weren't busy, which seemed unlikely. Well, he hoped to have some more extra time to spend with Akatta, perhaps he could take a break sometime during the week.

Then his mate change the subject, and for a brief moment Njal was lost. Why was she telling him about a zebra? He opened his mouth to ask her, but then she finished and he understood. "Really? Sounds like something." He said, coolly, and stored the information away for future use. "Do you get lonely here?" He asked, innocently.

“Oh...? Are you going to show them how it’s done?” Akatta grinned playfully, leaning softly against her husband. She had no doubt he’d be able to show the new members what a true Stormborn was made of. His next words made her take a brief pause to think. This was the perfect opportunity to mention what had been on her mind.

“Sometimes I wish we could spend more time together but I’m not really lonely…” she admitted with a tiny chuckle “I know you are busy but I’m proud of what you do.” her smile widened once again.

“Still, maybe it’s time to bring more life into the den. And I don’t mean a thrall or two.” Her expression became a little more serious, her tone less playful. “Njal… what do you think of cubs? Do you think it’s time?”

"Of course I am!" He grinned, turning his head to butt it, lightly, against her shoulder.

He blinked when she spoke again, and smiled when she said she was proud of him. He didn't quite know what to say to that, and didn't attempt to. Instead, Njal just settled for listening. He furrowed his brow when she talked about company.

Fortunately, Akatta wasn't going to leave it to Njal to figure out what she meant. "Cubs?" He repeated, almost dumbly. He had to catch up with that a bit. Njal had always assumed he would have cubs with Akatta someday, but hadn't been thinking about it lately. So, the subject came as a bit of a surprise to him. A not entirely unpleasant surprise. Still, he kept his voice even when he replied. "Cubs...I think having cubs with you would be wonderful, Akatta. And I believe it is time, whenever you think you are ready for them."

For a few moments Akatta was speechless, her chest swelling with a kind of emotion she had trouble defining. She buried her face in her husband’s mane, searching for the words that stubbornly refused to come to mind. All she could think of was that she’d never felt so happy in her life but such feelings were not easy to express.

“I think I am ready… we’re ready.” She said at last before raising her head to look at her husband again. Her strong warrior. How their cubs would look up to him, the same way she’d always admired her own father, Akatta was sure of it. “You’re going to be a wonderful father, Njal.” Strong sons, beautiful daughters. They were going to be the happiest family in the pride.

He was glad he could make her happy like this. It always pleased Njal for Akatta to be content, and if cubs were what she wanted, he would gladly comply. "And you will be the perfect mother." He said, allowing himself to relish in her touch for a while.

But even with Akatta, sometimes things could get a bit mushy for Njal. So he nibbled, briefly, at her ear. "I think some dinner would be nice, first." His voice was still soft, perhaps a bit playful.

Probably her last post. xD I really don't want him to die now... =(

“You should definitely eat.” Akatta said slowly, flaming eyes narrowing coyly while her tone remained suspiciously innocent. “You might need your energy later.”

The dark lioness rolled on her back with typical feline grace and gently pushed her mountain of a husband away from her, with a little playful grin pulling at the corners of her mouth.

"I think I might." He grinned, happily giving way to the push. She was the only one he wouldn't resist! Njal stretched briefly before continuing on to to the zebra she had mentioned earlier, making a small checklist in his mind of things to do. Get himself fed and rested, go find that cheetah she had mentioned, keep on training and practicing and preparing, spend some quality time with Akatta. Not bad, not bad.
