Staying close to home, as instructed to, little Anette was pouncing about, growling in a low and to her fierce rumble, 'fighting' with a spare bone from a prior meal. Claws flashing out, the young cub would tear at the strong thigh bone, making it skate across the ground, only to follow after it with leaps that lacked hesitance. Pinning it down, she'd growl even lower, before jerking her head down to sink small fangs into it as best she could.. giving it a good gnaw afterwards. Tail lashing about behind her, the pale female finally settled onto her belly to actually work on the marrow, strengthening paws gripping it firmly, keeping it close as sharp baby teeth were relentless on it's still somewhat bloodied body.

Burzum looked down on his near-twin sister from the lowest branches of a tree. He'd spent the morning practicing the trick he'd come up with when he was smaller and lighter, that of seeming to disappear by dropping off a higher branch onto a lower branch that had enough foliage to cover him. The trick itself was more a matter of guts than skills, but landing so as not to disturb the foliage took practice, and there were only so many trees in his acquaintance which possessed the requisite structure for his trick to work.

"Not really the most terrifying opponent I've ever seen," he observed in a voice which was frustratingly squeaky.

Perhaps she had been aware of him practicing and perhaps not. He didn't much care. She was family and that meant that she was more or less safe from Burzum and his mischief. He had a very strong sense of family honor and duty, and would do anything for his siblings, parents, aunts, or uncles. Or even his grandparents and great-aunt. He wasn't so sure about his paternal grandfather's mate, who was of no blood relation to him, but probably he would help her out if she asked and he wasn't busy.

Going to town on her newest competitor, doing her best to try and rip off some sort of piece of the tough bone, rounded white ears flipped up at the unmistakable voice of one of her brothers. However she didn't really care for his tone. Eyes narrowing, the young lioness turned her head slowly to glance at him from the corner of red painted eyes, giving a low growl in disapproval, "Well neither are you." she retorted just the same. Tail giving an annoyed flick, she went to licking at the bone, softening it up before returning to the malicious tearing and biting she'd been giving before. It might not have been much challenge wise, but it was still fun to play with! Like any toy.

Ears pinned back, just slightly, Anette let her gaze focus on her snack instead, not giving too much energy poised towards her brother, "What do you want anyway?" she muttered, sparing a peek at him from time to time. He was always in those tree's... like some sort of bird, or monkey.

"I wasn't offering to be an opponent," Burzum informed his sister snidely.

He hopped the rest of the way down from the tree and landed with a thud on the ground. Upon landing Burzum looked away and grimaced. It had not been the most graceful landing he could have made, and the impact had actually hurt, sending pain shooting up through his paws to his shoulders. He didn't want his sister to know that though.

"I don't want anything. Why should I? Between our family and the spirits I want for nothing."

Like his grandmother, Burzum believed firmly in the spirits and had high hopes of meeting some one day. Preferably dark and scary ones so that he could fend them off and then really have earned his name. Epic combat with a dark spirit sounded like it would be totally cool.

"I was just pointing out that your present opponent's not much good. You should spar with other lions more. Like up in the pride proper. You can learn a lot there, even if all you do is watch."

A very unamused expression sat heavily on Anette's pretty features, deep blood red eyes narrowed with clear displeasure. She didn't appreciate her brothers smart-alek reply.. making her growl low to show as such. Settling onto her belly, drawing her bone close, she folded back her ears, "I'm just eating a bone!" she hissed, "Leave me be!" she was getting grumpy now. If he didn't like her playing with a piece of food, well too bad!

"It's not even an opponent." she grumbled, eyes rolling, "Anyone could tell that." chewing a chunk that she'd managed to break off, her gaze slid back over to the other cub, and then to the tree he'd arrived from. With the small mouthful swallowed, her tail gave an irritated flick, "why don't you just go back to your tree. Or maybe you should try bushes instead... since that opponent of yours seems to be winning." it was her time for a comeback! "I watch them enough. And I spar with `um enough. You sound like an old man." strong paws gripped at the marrow between them tightly, head cocking as she used her powerful molar's to crunch and crush into the thigh bone, making it cause a grinding sound as it was whittled down.

"Obviously it's not an opponent. It's a bone, like you said. Bones are horrible opponents. Like I said."

Probably he should leave his sister be if she was to the point where she was hissing, but he just couldn't do it. She had been dismissive about his ghosting tricks, and he resented that. He had white fur, like she did for that matter, and it wasn't so easy blend in with fur like that. He was learning how to deal with that. She was chewing on a bone.

"You don't watch anyone. Or spar with them," Burz retorted with a dismissive snort. "You always do what mum and da tell you to do, and stay right here, close to home."

It wasn't as if their forest home was particularly near the stronghold and the sparring arena it contained. Even on a good morning it could take Burz about half an hour to get from one place to the other, and that wasn't even counting the time he had to spend hiding and sneaking and slinking to avoid being noticed as he left the forest and entered the stronghold.

"But whatever. Do what you want," he said with a bored flick of his tail. "But don't come crying to me if you lose your first real fight."
