Mitsu was eager to surprise papa, too, but she was a little nervous doing it without her mother around. Hikaru's confidence was reassuring but she wasn't here. Once she and her sister found Taro, Mitsu spent a good few minutes deciding that it was the right guy. He was covered in spots, like her and Kumi. And he had a spot on his chest, like her and Kumi, too!
Once she was satisfied with her conclusion, she glanced to her sister and scrambled away to put some distance between them so they might launch a better sneak attack. There was not really much distance between them but, hiding behind a tree, Mitsu attempted to gesture a plan out to Kumi- but she wasn't even clear on what she wanted to do. In the end, she stared wide-eyed at her sister and shrugged, waiting for some indication of what exactly to do.
Taro was completely oblivious to the nearby cubs, even with Mitsu's flailing she wasn't making enough noise to tip off a distracted leopard who was expecting larger, louder company. Staring at the shrine, the only part of his body that moved was, conveniently, his tail. It swayed around him as his thoughts slowly turned to just how patient he could be and how long he could stand waiting around here for Yuuta. |

Mitsu stared at Kumi as she mimed out the plan, not quite getting it until the last second when everything suddenly made sense. She squeaked when Kumi leaped out of hiding and went for Taro's tail but quickly stifled a second squeak of horror when she realized she was making too much noise for this ambush.
And then she was forgetting to go along, too!
Kumi was already on papa's tail when Mitsu scrambled out of hiding, chickening out of pouncing right along with her sister and instead standing ready to back her up.
When Mitsu squeaked, Taro's ear twitched. When she squeaked again, he turned to where the sound had come from but was immediately distracted by the pink fuzzball bouncing his way and landing on his tail triumphantly.
He chuckled-- until Mitsu appeared and he realized what was happening. He fell silent, stunned and unresponsive. After a pause, his tail began to pull away from Kumi nervously. He knew what happened with Hikaru, she had even told him this was coming.. what was she thinking, sending two cubs at him like this. It took a great deal of self control not to stand up and run off.
Oblivious, Mitsu grinned and looked back and forth between her father and her sister.

Tumbling dramatically, Mitsu frowned as she hit the ground but managed to contain herself. She looked nearly as stunned as Taro had when they ambushed him and she looked back and forth between Kumi and papa as the situation was explained. She opened her mouth to add but she couldn't speak right away and missed her chance.
"That--"
Taro swallowed his words but couldn't completely stifle a growl. What was Hikaru thinking, just throwing a couple cubs at him like this? She knew he wasn't exactly welcoming of the idea, he'd completely ignored her when she told him. What was he supposed to do? What if someone else was here? What if Faina was with him when they found him?
Faina.
He stopped and looked around them nervously, almost frantic. This was exactly where Faina would start a search for him if she was keen on chatting with him. And here he was with cubs. At first glance they were clearly from Hikaru's family.. but, looking at them, you could see their resemblance to him and Yuuta. All those spots.
"Well," he started, hesitating as he tried to think how exactly to get rid of them fast, "You shouldn't be wandering around by yourselves."
Good cover. They were very small, why would she just send them off to find him anyway.
"But, mama said.."
Mitsu couldn't think of a complete objection to what he said. It almost sounded like something mama would say.. except mama had said it was OK to go find him themselves. Finally, she picked herself up off the ground and stepped backwards to be closer to where Kumi was.

Mitsu kept on frowning, nudging at Kumi when she agreed to go back to mama's shrine. It would be better back with mama, papa wasn't being very much fun. He was way worse than when Kumi was cranky and boring, at least she didn't hurt when she refused to play.
"Yeah," she agreed.
He was relieved they agreed, he didn't even care that they were obviously disappointed. He didn't have any particularly paternal feelings, right now his thoughts were entirely selfish. Obviously he couldn't ignore this and just have it go away, denial was no longer an option. Hikaru obviously wasn't just going to let it go away.
"OK, come on," he said, starting them off and only pausing to glance back to make sure they followed.
What a mess.

While she was only frowning at first, as soon as Kumi asked if she was OK, she suddenly looked ready to burst into tears. Even with watery eyes, she nodded- she wasn't hurt that badly, it was more of a surprise than anything to be sent tumbling backward like that. Emotionally, though, she wasn't strong enough to keep it together in the face of direct questioning.
She didn't dare speak, though. She looked back ahead of her and marched on towards mama, sticking close by Kumi.
Taro was running panicked circles in his own mind, slowing down enough to let them catch up so he could keep an eye on them himself-- but then he saw Kumi ask if Mitsu was OK and Mitsu nearly crying. Stumbling, he suddenly realized just how very real this was. He took another couple slow steps, letting them get just barely ahead of him.. and then he turned around and ran off without a single word to either of the girls.
