The one of the most common objections I hear concerning the Bible that it cannot be trusted as God's word because it was written by man and everyone knows that man makes mistakes. In actuality, the Bible was written through man by God.
And speaking about how the Scriptures are written, in 2 Peter 1:21 tells us that the Holy man of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. The Bible writers are not inspired as great artists or inspired to produce great art. The word translated of "inspired" means "God breathed." It literally conveys the idea of God breathing out the Scriptures. Man was the instruments used by God to convey His thoughts in the Bible.
Now the Bible is not 1 book, but 66 books compiled under 1 binding. It was written in a period of 1,500 years, about 40 different authors from all walks of life, from varying occupations, written in 3 different languages (Aramaic, Hebrew, and Greek), from 3 different continents, during times of peace and times of war. The Bible authors wrote exactly what God wanted them to write on 100s of controversial subjects, yet with absolute harmony from beginning to the end.
Now think about this. Let's say that we interviewed 5 different people in the same nationality, working in the same job, living in the same calender and the same year. And we ask each one of them to speak their mind on one controversial subject. What are the chances that they will agree? And yet, despite all of the differences of lives in the Scriptures, the Bible is absolutely harmonious from beginning to end.
The Bible's remarkable continuity is evidence of its divine origin. And its unity is due to fact that ultimately that it has one author.... God.
The Bible served as a basis for modern scientific pursuits. In fact, modern science was birthed in the 17th century because of a belief of an unchanging God of order, purpose, and consistency.... the God portrayed in the Bible. It is filled with numerous medical and scientific facts and has been in the forefront of modern day science.
When scientists thought the Earth was flat, the Bible describes the true shape of the Earth (Isaiah 40:22) and how it is suspended upon nothing (Job 26:7). Before the oceans were explored, the Bible knew of the existing valleys and fountains and springs down in its depths (Psalms 18:15, Job 18:16). It evens mentions of the hydrologic cycle with great clarity thousands years before science had a drop of insight (Ecclesiastes 1:6 - 7).
It is the only Spiritual book that contains fulfilled prophecies. Messianic prophecies, for an example, foretold that a Messiah would be born of a virgin, in Bethlehem, and He would be rejected by His own people, yet bear their iniquities, and save their people from their sins which ultimately was fulfilled at the cross when Jesus proclaimed, "It is finished."
The Bible is God's living and powerful Word. It can be trusted, because it is inerrant, inspired, and infallible. And though it has no contradictions, it certainly have mistakes. The first one is when man rejected God back in the Garden. Don't do the same.
