User ImageAfter finishing some training of a more physical sort today, sparring with random reavers, Njal thought it was high time he could a bit more training from Thorgrim. The lion who had started all of this planning, training and preparing. He did not mind in the least. Thorgrim was his oldest friend, and Njal respected and trusted him greatly!

Even when their meetings were a bit serious, Njal usually enjoyed them. Besides, he usually ended up feeling like he had learned something, which felt good. As a cub he had never felt smart. It wasn't as important as being fierce and strong, in his honest opinion, but it definitely had it's worth!

Which was why he was making his way over to the other lion's den right now. Njal wasn't really sure where Thorgrim would be about at this time of day, but figured he might as well check the den. If the older male wasn't there, he had no problem with looking around some more.

User ImageEverything was falling perfectly into place. Thorgrim couldn't be happier, really, and all he'd had to do was promise his niece a seer - shouldn't be an issue - and she'd announced the Breytast Vindar without a hitch. Thorgrim couldn't help but smile. He was pleased - Njal had been an attentive pupil, and things were finally turning in their favor.

When Thorgrim was not wandering around stirring up trouble, he could usually be found sitting just outside his den. It was a prime position, perfect for watching the comings and goings of the pride members. This day was no different, and it would be exactly where Njal found the older lion.

"Njal," Thorgrim greeted the other lion briefly, "it is a good day to die. We have much to discuss."

"Thorgrim. Someday I'll kill you." Evidently not today, he already knew. and Njal never really fathomed the idea of killing his mentor. That would be preposterous, even for a savage brute like he. He was pleased to have found Thorgrim so easily, because that spared him too much looking around.

"We do." He agreed, sitting down once he was closer. "Anything special you thinking about?" Njal mostly followed Thorgrim's lead when it came to talking and discussing, because the older male was just better at it.

Thorgrim smiled, an ugly gesture - not directed at Njal but at their situation in particular.

"Brynja will announce Breytast Vindar in the coming days." He knew that Njal would realize the meaning behind the words, so he was not compelled to explain himself further.

"Are you ready for the trials ahead? So very much is riding on your shoulders, old friend, and it is of the utmost importance that you find yourself prepared."

Breytast Vindar? For some reason it felt soon, even though he had been preparing himself for a long time. Maybe it was one of those things you never quite imagined happening for real. But though Njal wasn't the best liar, there was one thing he was good at; that was confidence. "I am ready." He nodded. As much as he would ever be.

"Aesir won't know what hit him." He was aware of the fact that the Warlord was probably a good fighter, otherwise he wouldn't be where he was right now. But Njal knew he could do it. He had to, the Stormborn depended on him. An outsider had come to them, and now he led them. Instead of accepting and respecting their traditions, as he should have, Aesir had sought to change them. It disgusted him.

"Very good, very good." Thorgrim's voice held a rumble of content.

"There is one other thing I wished to discuss with you. When you win - and we all know you will win, Njal - it is of utmost importance that Brynja is given the rank of High Priestess. If not for her, I doubt that we would be in the position we are - a good situation, I think you'll agree."

He gave a soft sound of annoyance.

"I promised. You understand."

Thorgrim's request came as a bit of a surprise, and he quirked his brows. He wasn't so sure what the older male had worked out with Brynja. But, then again, he had no real reason to object. "We are in a good position." He agreed. He hardly wanted to make too many enemies in the pride early on, but Morrigan would have needed to be dealt with anyways.

Njal wasn't a cruel lion, but he did not want to keep Aesir's family and friends in very powerful positions. Substituting Morrigan with one of their friends seemed like an advantage to him. "Very well." He nodded. "Your promise will be kept." Though, a small part of Njal's mind wished he had been told about this before Thorgrim made a promise! Oh well, he was sure his friend was doing what was right.

Thorgrim was cocky enough to anticipate Njal's approval of his request. There really was no reason for the lion to deny him - after all, it did not tread horridly on the plans at paw.

"I believe - once you win, of course," there was little doubt that Njal would lose this upcoming challenge, "that all of Aesir's bloodline should be presented with the option of being banished, or becoming thralls. What say you? If any should hold a position of power, of course, they must not be allowed to keep it."

Thorgrim gave a low, content rumble.

This suggestion was less surprising than the request, but still the sort to take him aback. Aesir had laid many roots here in the pride, unfortunately, and even he could smell trouble in trying to impose those measures on such a prominent, large family. Besides, Njal usually tried to be just, sort of, and he wasn't so sure how he felt about that from a moral standpoint. "I..." He began to say, then thought a bit. Certainly Thorgrim had a good reason.

Oh course, Njal should have thought of it earlier! He'd have no friends in Aesir's bloodline, and they would be stirring up all kinds of trouble within the pride once he got through with the Warlord. That would certainly be disastrous! He couldn't have some dumb naysayers spitting poison when their troubled pride was trying to get back on its feet. "I agree, completely." As usual, Thorgrim was right.

"Most excellent, then. Do you have any requirements of your own? After all, it will be your strong and capable will to fight that will bring forth the change that this pride so desperately needs. Too long have we, as a pride, languished about. It is time to once more to lift this pride and its rightful, old-blooded families back up to the glory it was once known for."

Thorgrim shook his massive head.

"I am glad to have a friend such as you, Njal. I will be your most trusted advisor and your truest friend."

He shook his head, not being able to think of any demands. Honestly, Njal had never been an overly ambitious sort, and as such had never imagined he would be Warlord until Thorgrim had steered him in that direction. So nothing came to mind! "Your friendship is enough." He said, honestly.

But, in jest, because Njal did like a bit of foolishness, he grinned. "Though, you and your wife could get to having a few proper stormborn cubs, don't you think?" Njal was working on that with Akatta himself. Win or lose against Aesir, the pride would need a new generation of good lions, and cubs were a way to do that.
