Mwale'Kono was padding carefully on the hot sand. It was certainly unlike anywhere else he'd been before, and he had been on some adventures in his time. Most notably the one that had given him these scars. He chuckled. These lands were hot and dry, and full of the most extraordinary red-pelted lions. He looked down to his flamed paws, the golden woven into the red of his pelt. It was almost like he belonged to their blood. He had been given some information about roles to fill within the pride, so had his head well and truly buried in the clouds for some time now, walking to and fro. Trying to take all this in was a little much. He was grateful that he had been recruited by Spaki and the others, especially when he had heard it was usually alot more difficult to join the pride than just walking in; duelling, he believed, was a rite of acceptance.
Still, in his half a day in the lands he knew little, but was excited by the strict and orderly nature of things, there were lions patrolling, those talking about battle, others just trading valuable information. The scar across his eye had rendered him near blind, and he hadn't managed to open it yet, as the healing scar tissue was still weeping. He bore other marks and scars of his close escape, but wore them with pride, they did not hinder him in any other way. He continued to pace, wondering if all of the lions in this land knew he was an outsider, well, they must do. But did they know his story, would they all be accepting. He supposed he could do nothing more but wait.
A guard would be a good choice for a position, yes. He doubted he would ascend too high in the soldier ranks due to his eye. He was strong, but felt that his prime would probably begin to pass. Despite these thoughts he would be sure to keep on top of it. In a pride like this he couldn't let himself waste away, oh no. He shook his head in thought, lost in his own world.

Ares hadn't cared much for leaving the dunes of the Motoujamii recently, not like some of the new Sentinels had. Sure she had ventured a bit at one point but after everything that had happened, she had decided to stick closer to home, content with patrolling the borders of the pride that had taken her in when she had nothing. In fact, the lioness was on her way towards the edge of the pride, cutting through the training grounds.
At her side slithered her two serpent companions, one pure black and the other pure white, both who were bickering amongst themselves, likely over their children which had been taking both theirs and their lioness mistress' time as of late. "Silence." Ares snapped at the two, her voice strong, commanding even which quickly silenced the two snakes. "Come on, we have work to do." With her mind distracted in her chastising her charges she scarcely hat the mind to watch the path her paws carried her.

Mwale could see another lion, darker in pelt than himself, and accompanied by what looked like two snakes. He furrowed his brow, expecting,as with most working around him, that she would avoid him. However as she carried herself closer and closer he spoke up. His one amber eye looking straight into hers. "Excuse me." His voice was gruff and he gave her a curt nod. Stepping aside casually he looked from the lioness to her two snake companions and did not break a smile. He preferred to keep a business like approach to situations, especially first encounters in a new land, never rude, of course, or not to his imagination. He was, after all, the intruder in these lands, per se.

The dark red lioness paused mid-step, her head turning as the masculine voice caught her attention to look at the owner of the voice. Before actually answering him Ares looked him up and down once, ending at his face with her bi-colored eyes looking at him. "You must be new here." Ares finally spoke, not even addressing the 'excuse me' that had gotten her stop. Her voice had been much calmer and even less authoritative when addressing him compared to how she spoke to her serpents. "You definitely look like one of us and since no one stopped you thus far, I assume you're already a Firekin. Also I just don't recognize those flames on your legs. So welcome, my name is Ares." She was a guard at all, it was part of her job to know who was and wasn't a Firekin.

Quaji Up for finishing this? :3 Well, she was very observant. He guessed that was the nature of this pride, and supposed they didn't have much trouble with intruders, or if they did, they sorted it out - fast. Mwale looked over the lioness and into her dual coloured eyes, maintaining a half-frown as he did so. He so often looked serious, especially in his time of injury, his weeping eye and pink scars stood out like a sore thumb on his bright pelt. "I'm Mwale'Kono, and was recruited by Spaki as a new member here, did you hear of their mission to apprehend the greenwood monster?" Truth be told, much of the information about the beast he had heard after his encounter. The only thought that ran through his mind in the Greenwood forest was "s**t. Elephant." "And what is your duty, in this pride?" He asked bluntly. Some would guess at an attempt to make small talk, but Mwale'kono needed to know as much about the firekin as possible. He looked from one snake to the other.

Ares' ears flicked back as he spoke. Small talk; great. She shook her head, "I haven't heard anything about it, but then again I'm don't speak to many others." It was true though, she was so out of the loop since she had joined the Firekin, spending much of her time patrolling the desert and by herself, only conversing when truly needed. Suddenly she puffed her chest slightly, proud of her role within the Firekin. It was one she was familiar with given her history with the Lucani. "I'm a guard within the pride. I also breed snakes for others to use." The dark red lioness motioned to the two snakes that stood poised to attack if needed on her left side. "Despite their appearances, they're relatively harmless." Amber and red eyes looked up towards Mwale'Kono with a wide grin, "So, what do you do?"

Mwale'kono had no knowledge that his small talk may have rendered Ares a little bored. His blunt nature and habit of asking for all the facts didn't make him too much of a great conversationalist. For him to be holding this conversation at all was more than he usually did.
Hearing that the female was not only a guard but that she bred snakes interested him, and his ears pricked forward. "I suppose in the wrong instance, they wouldn't be so harmless." He grunted.
"The greenwood monster, so they called it, was a bull elephant. I had a run-in with the beast before it was put out of commission, so to speak." He huffed a lock of dark fur out of his eyes. "Hence my physical condition." He shook his head slightly to indicate his useless eye.
"I'm new here, so I've just been trying to find out some information. I think perhaps a guard position would be best suited for me, too. How do you find it?"

Her paws shifted as Ares straightened herself out, standing a little taller, with a little more pride as he commented on her snakes. It was true though. They weren't exactly harmless, in truth their bite could usually incapacitate an adult male lion of normal rogue standards. Anything larger...well, that was why she had two.
The red lioness could not help but raise a brow as she listened to his small, but still interesting tale of a run-in with a 'monster'. "That seems like quite the accomplishment. It's no wonder you were recruited. Elephants aren't exactly easy to take down and the folk around here...well elephants don't really come this way, so I'm not sure how the hunters here would even react to one, to be quite honest."
Her attention was grabbed by his curiosity and rather blunt questioning of her profession in the Firekin. He was definitely not the typical newcomer that Ares had originally thought he would be. "Considering guard duty huh? It can be monotonous, sometimes getting the same routine day in and day out, but hopefully you'll get some interesting patrols, end up meeting rogues, both wanting to join and those who need escorting back into the savannah. I find it better then just being a soldier, that's for sure. Nothing but sparring and training with little of it being put to practical use. Besides, I was a sort of guard in my old pride, so I suppose it just comes a little naturally to want to wander and protect something." Ares' weight shifted as she shrugged as much as a lion even could. "You seem capable though, especially with a story like dealing with this 'greenwood monster'. The guards could definitely use a lion like you."
