Kivuli hadn't been paying attention to where she was going, she had to admit to this. Her mind had been on, significantly bigger things.
She wandered like a flitting shadow, from place to place, keeping herself to herself, and stealing food when she had the chance to. Kivuli could see that hyena didnt have the best reputation when it came to stealing others food, but luck would have it that she was a terrible hunter, and really had no choice.
The scenery had changed drastically as the dark pelted hyena wandered across the golden savannah, into something a whole lot... darker.
Ah, this was more like it.

The elephant graveyard was a very impressive pace indeed, especially the first time you visited. It was hard to shake the feeling of being watched from the empty eye sockets of long dead elephants. And most of the time you were indeed watched. Svärta had kept his eyes on the female for a while. He was fairly certain she wasn't a member of the graveyard pack, unless she was a very recent addition. He'd come from the roguelands originally and could guess what the other was thinking. One of the guards would probably be here soon, but he might as well give her a proper welcome. He let out a small chuckle and then allowed it to grow into a full grown cackle, amplified by the elephant skull he was currently sitting in. "Lost, are you," he called, sticking his nose out through one of the eye sockets.

Kivuli twitched as the head of... something became apparent within one of the skulls. Growling, her long teeth became visible, and she pulled her chest out to eye up the creature.
When she realized it was another hyena, she settled. She had to admit that being in the resting place for such big creatures was daunting. Although she was a fan of shadows, Kivuli knew that they gave everybody else a place to hide, just as they did her.
"Not lost, just wandering." She let out a chuckle herself, and loped towards the male.
It was probably a bad philosophy to have, but she tended to treat all hyena as friends, as so many of them seemed to have a common enemy.
"Sorry about my reaction. I thought you were a lion." She said, bluntly.

Svärta allowed himself one more echoing cackle before climbing down from his bony perch. He'd given the girl a good old scare, even if she appeared to recover from it quickly. When she mentioned lions it was his turn to show some teeth. Lions?
"Don't worry," he said with a grimace that resembled a snarl, "They wouldn't dare to come here. Last time a lion set foot in this graveyard Very Bad Things happened."
The pack was still recovering from the nasty ordeal. He didn't know about the lions, but he imagined they weren't very happy either. Both groups had suffered heavy losses, but the cats bred like vermin so you never knew.

Bad things he said? Well, that was enough to pique her interest, or morbid curiousity.
A sly smile crept over her face. "What happened?" Her teal eyes widened as she moved closer to the stranger. "And where am I?"
Any place that brought ill fate to lions was a place she'd like to know more about.
She hadn't been born as hateful as she was now. Kivuli had always held lions well below her in the ranks, as it were. This was due to her upbringing, but since the incident, she was feeling very hateful indeed.

"You're in the Elephant Graveyard," he said, "Home of the Mava'Bunda pack, come here, I'll show you something." Svärta padded away and started climbing one of the less decayed skeletons. The spine formed nice stepping stones and since the elephant had died leaning against a couple of massive boulders it was a nice vantage point. He stopped on top of the head, leaving room for the female next to him. "That over there is called 'Pride rock'," he said, indicating the stone formation far in the distance, "It's populated by an obscene amount of lions, but they mostly stay out of our way. Last time we crossed paths a lot of hyenas and lions died."

Kivuli followed suit, although she'd never really trod on anything dead before, and certainly not something so large and decayed.
She had to admit though, that the great shadows of these deceased creatures did add a little something to the feel of the place. The Elephant Graveyard seemed impending and safe at the same time.
Looking over to pride rock, she nodded. "An obscene amount?" She scowled. "I'm sure they've learnt now to stay out of your way."
"I'm Kivuli, by the way."
She wasn't sure how she felt about being so close to lions, but it seemed they knew their boundaries, and her current surroundings were darkly enticing.

Svärta squinted, but it was impossible to actually see any lions from here today. "You could say that," he said, "But it goes both ways. It's just easier if we stay away from each other. There are young lions and young hyenas that think it's a fun idea to go mess with the others, but most of the time one of their own will smack them across the head for being stupid before they go and get killed. I guess what I'm saying is, don't stray that way. At best you’ll just be harassed, but the lions guarding their border might as well kill you." He figured it was common courtesy to warn a fellow hyena about dangers in the area. The Pridelanders were too stupid to tell a Graveyard hyena from one just wandering through, and while she looked capable it might easily turn ugly if she met the wrong lion. "Name's Svärta," he said, "My job around here is to hunt for the pack." It wasn't a very high ranking job, but Svärta didn't mind. Being a male he was never going to be among the top ranks, but he rather enjoyed his current place in the pack. The Alpha's Consort was a weird male, and if that was what it took to stick close to power... Nah.

"Svärta..." It was an interesting name, one that stuck to the back of her throat, but in a pleasant way. Kivuli nodded and again turned her attention to the distance.
She too squinted in the direction of Pride Rock, but couldn't see anything other than pieces of golden grass. "I appreciate the heads up, it is smart to be careful of your enemies, no matter how much you want to do something, sometimes." She mused.
Truth be told, she was as fearful of lions as she was hateful. Imagine the look on mothers face when she found out another one of her children had been ripped apart by these creatures? She flinched slightly.
"Say, is it easy to stick around here, what does it take to join?" She doubted she'd be able to find this safe a place again, especially one seemingly abundant with hyenas that shared similar views as her.

He nodded at that. Svärta didn't exactly regret going to war against the lions, but if he could avoid it from happening again he would. Had it been worth it? As far as he was concerned it wasn't his job to evaluate that. Svärta had survived and his pack had survived. "Well," he said, and his tongue lolled out in a grin, "They took me in, and they took me back when I came home limping after our little war. I think they'll take you." It wasn't for him to decide, but he didn't think Masuko would turn Kivuli away. They still needed to build up their numbers, after all. He turned back and skipped down the elephant spine with practiced ease. The other hyena might notice scars along his side as he turned but the set of nasty scars didn't seem to hinder him much. "I'll take you to the Alpha," he said, "She calls the shots around here, and if she says you can stay, you can."

Annchen I was so convinced this was done, sorry! Kivuli smiled, showing a ow of sharp, white teeth. A war?
"A war?" She voiced her thoughts out loud. "You will have to tell me. If I stay, that is." As she circled the area her black body fell into the shadows and looked like nothing more than a little mist. Perhaps the alpha would let her stay. It could be a good place to stay, to be around more of her own kind.
Still grinning at Svärta, she looked at him warmly. "Thank you."((Finished))
