Family and lessons were all very well, but sometimes a girl needed time away from the former and the latter. So she was sitting quietly near the training Soldiers - out of the way, but where she could still see everything going on. They weren't all the way she imagined them, but she supposed that they were still learning. Not to mention that many (obviously) hadn't been born here.

She watched their movements and traced patterns in the sand before her that mimicked them. It was a relaxing way to spend her time. Especially since she was nowhere near her twin. And good thing. She was convinced that Finar-Si had made him simply to infuriate her.

(Will update cert when I get the new one).

It was...interesting, being one of the Watchers. And challenging, not least because he'd had to learn subtlety. Previous to the mission to the North, he would have dismissed the idea that he could--or even wanted to--master any sort of subtlety at all.

He'd learned a lot about himself, on that mission. He shifted at the thought, his eyes flicking away from the training Soldiers and landing on...hm. A juvenile...a prospective Soldier, or simply a bored youngster? His paws were moving nearly before that question was finished, until his shadow fell across the pale juvenile.

"Learning anything interesting?"

Eish hadn't really been paying any attention to what was being said until someone spoke very near her - to her! She looked up to see a black lion with red markings. No one she knew personally, but then again, she didn't know all that many grownups who she wasn't related to. And unlike most of the other Apprentices, she wasn't related to most of the pride. This was amusing, particularly when she heard her mother and other lionesses discussing potential mates amongst their children. Not that parents really had any say, but apparently moms liked to think about it.

And none of this was answering the grownup's question. Which was an interesting one. Was she learning anything her? And if so, was it interesting?

"Yes, I think so," she replied, after giving the matter some deep thought.

The large, bulky male lifted a brow. "You think so?" At a loss, he paused. Maybe he wasn't asking the question right. Framing the words correctly, in a way that got the best answers, could be bloody hard sometimes. "Is it interesting to you?"

The white lioness smiled up at the big black lion. "Yes, it is very interesting to me," she replied. If it wasn't, she doubted she'd have chosen to spend so much time just sitting here.

Then the girl realized that perhaps he wanted to know what was so interesting.

"Oh!" she exclaimed. "The movements. The shapes, the forms, as they fight and train," the juvenile tried to explain what she saw, gesturing with one paw at the participants as well as the gentle drawings in the sand. The wind would erase them soon enough, but for now they were still visible.

Possibly a Soldier prospect, then, or a Guard. Maybe even a Sentinel, if she showed an urge for travel. The vague drawings in the sand cast some doubt on this, however, and he furrowed his brows in puzzlement at them. Maybe she wanted to be a...hell, he didn't know, a crafter of some sort...although he wasn't sure that the Firekin had anything that specifically catered to that leaning. "What would...drawing them...do?"

Well, that was a very good question too. Eish had never really thought about why she enjoyed mimicking the forms she saw in the ever shifting sand before her. Now how was she to answer?

"Um. Well." This was something she'd never really conceptualized before.

"I guess it helps me to remember them better. Also they make very pretty shapes," the lioness concluded with a smile.

...He really hadn't been aware that vague shapes in the dirt could qualify as 'pretty.' Confusion was plain for a brief moment, before he schooled his face back into something more neutral. After all, the other purpose was solid enough, and even bloody clever. Anything that helped one remember strikes and forms could be considered useful, and if it helped this young one become a better fighter...hell, as long as it worked. Maybe he should test that out.

"If it helps you to remember them...would you mind showing me? Maybe I could help." Hey, who didn't want an unsolicited fighting lesson?

He wanted her to show him? But she wasn't even going to be a Soldier! She was going to be a Huntress, like her mother! Mom was always saying how there weren't nearly enough Hunters in the pride, that there were too many Soldiers by far. That's why even though not everyone was a Hunter by trade, they still had to do what they could to provide their own meals.

It was possible that if there were enough Hunters one day, that wouldn't happen anymore. But there would have to be a lot more Hunters than there were at the moment.

Still, she'd been taught that she was supposed to do as a grownup asked, and she supposed that she should do as the big black lion wanted her to do.

"Okay," she replied, getting to her feet and shaking off excess sand. Then she began moving through the various motions she'd been sketching.

Hmm...not bad. A juvenile wasn't about to be the pinnacle of form and grace, but she'd obviously been picking up some things. Whether that was due to watching or to the damn scribbles, he couldn't say. It was probably safe to assume it was both, though. "Not bad," he finally said, nodding. "You could use a little more control on the last one, but you're not bad for your age." That...was a compliment, right? s**t, he didn't know how to talk to cubs.

"Thank you," the girl replied, looking up at the black lion. She was grateful for the compliment, since any and every young Firekin, even a fireless girl like herself, was expected to know the basics of fighting and dueling. After all, anyone, be they Solidier, Hunter, Medic or more was expected to hold their own against those who wished to join the pride.

Even so, she had to admit she didn't pay as close attention to those lessons as she did the ones related to hunting. It wasn't that she felt it was less important overall, just that it was less important for her.

She wasn't certain what to do or say now.

"Uh, well, I should go find my mom," she offered, taking a few steps back. "Oh, and I'm Eish!"

Mkazo's face twitched in something that might, vaguely, resemble a smile. "Well, I won't keep you from doing something you should, Eish. I'm Mkazo." Bobbing his head in a nod, he added, "Until we meet again, then."

Youngsters could be puzzling. They could also be clever--it hadn't occured to him that drawing out things could help in remembering them, outside of the historian's caves. Not that it failed to make sense once he made the connection, but it was surprising nonetheless.
