He staggered towards his opponent, ignoring the blood and sweat that ran down his face. One last goal, one last shot and it will be theirs. He gritted his teeth against the pain as his front leg pulled back for the strike. A giant roar erupted from his chest as he catapulted the shell forward, blazing past the goalie. His teammates gathered around him as they supported his exhausted body. As one they shouted, "For the cup!"

What will YOU do for the cup?

[Current Situation]

Over time the Kwa Kikombe pride started to fall apart as players were disbanding and seeking other opportunities. A new blood, Howahkan, came into the fold, determined to turn things around. She enjoyed a good game and figured this to be a new challenge-- to reconstruct the pride to its former glory. She envisions a time when all species can come together and bond over the love for physical fun, team effort, and furious passion.

[History]

Many dry seasons have passed since the pride came into foundation. It all started with a rogue lion by the name of Shauku who enjoyed living life on the edge. He would constantly press his luck by sneaking around herds of elephants and other large animals, tugging on their tails or scaring them just to get a laugh. Shauku had a love for adrenaline and games, and being chased by a herd of angry elephants certainly was the best game of chase he could think of playing.

One day, a particularly infuriated patriarch of a herd kicked an empty tortoise shell as she ran. It hit Shauku square in the hindquarters, giving him quite the scare himself. He later found the shell nestled between two trees, almost as if the elephant had tried to get it to land there. What fun, he thought to himself! He batted the shell around for a while after that, finding it both fun and difficult to recreate the results the elephant had accidentally achieved. Finally Shauku got the shell back in the little hole, and the satisfaction he gained was so great that he wanted others to try and see if they could achieve the same success as he could.

And thus the game was born. Using the same tortoise shell, Shauku began creating rules and regulations. Other animals enjoyed watching Shauku and the other lions playing and asked to join in. Soon enough, there were teams and some serious rivalries going on. Rather than pit the hyenas against the cheetahs and the leopards against the wild dogs, Shauku realized that each animal had its own special talent. Each team could allow whomever they pleased on the field. There would be no discrimination: if you loved the game, then you were a part of their growing family.

Shauku realized, seasons later, that the animals that had come to play had never left. He talked with a few of the captains and decided to keep the game a central part of this new band of animals. The Kwa Kikombe was born.

LOW DOWN

Kwa Kikombe is located on a grassy plain, with a river cutting through the landscape bordered by lush forests. Tree and rock clusters dot the area that creatures turn into their homes if they don't find the forest very inviting. The terrain accommodates a variety of species with the cheetah and lions finding comfort in the plains and the leopards enjoying the tree canopies.
Before the pride was established, humans found the area nice to inhabit at one point before moving on during a harsh dry season. They left behind litter which the animals gather as trinkets and awards. Every now and then a new group of humans will camp in the area, but well enough away from the pride. Some of the recruiters like to sneak into the camps at night and snag a treasure or two.

[Inspired landscape: Moremi Game Reserve]

Species
Every critter is welcomed into the pride.

Familiars
Familiars are welcomed, but cannot be used in a game because it will be seen as an unfair advantage. They also cannot hold any of the player ranks.

Pelt Colors
Any color is welcomed. but some coaches may only allow a certain pelt color on their team.

Sexuality
We don't care who your soa love as long as they procreate when the survival of the pride is in danger.

Mating/Flings
Rogue breedings are encouraged to increase members as well as stronger players. You do not need permission to mate or fling.

Adolescent Breeding
There are no rules against adol breeding, however, it is frowned upon since the chances of offspring are lowered. The young couple is seen as foolish and inexperienced since they haven’t fully developed.

Seers
They are welcomed in the pride, but are not allowed to influence the game with their powers. Totally an unfair advantage. Doesn't mean they can't play, but no predicting the move. Where's the fun in that?

Names
There are no restrictions with names as long as they fit within shop rules. However, it is common for teammates to give each other nicknames. (these will not go on certs)

Birthing
It's a time for great celebration when a female finally gives birth! The cubs are protected by every member or the pride regardless of species.

THE GAMES

Kikombe
Send the tortoise shell over the goal line to score a point. The team who reaches 3 goals first, wins the game.
The most popular game played. A team may compete with up to three team members. Both teams need to have the same number of players. So if one team only has two members, then it needs to be two on two.

Ikikuwa
Ikiuwa stands for war and like its name suggest, two soa enter onto the field and only one walks off. Its very rare that animals kill each other, but it has been known to happen if the fighters get too invested.
This is soa vs. soa. If teams are involved, then up to three members may participate. Only two soa on the field at a time, a challenger from each team. The winning team is the one with the most victories.
[We are still developing the dice system for this game.]

More to come later.

GAMING SYSTEMS
There are two different ways to play games in Kwa Kikombe: Strictly RP or Dice. Either way can be used for gaming. Below are some general differences.

Strictly RP
SRP is battling done completely through rp without the use of dice or any other system.
This allows owners to dictate every aspect of the game. Please be respectful and don't abuse the system.

Dice Gaming System
DBS uses dice to dictate the outcome of the game.
You're welcomed to RP while using the dice! It's just the dice will decide the outcome of the attacks.

USING THE DICE

[For more detailed information on using the dice, please click here.]

If you're playing a game using the Dice Gaming System, then the success rate of a move is dictated by a one, 6 sided die. Each time you want to make a move, you must roll the die. The total "damage" your soa inflicts depends on the number you land. Your roll may cause a miss, half damage, or normal damage. The soa's individual stats factor into how much total damage is delivered. An example of how the system is used in Kikombe can be seen here.

STATS BREAK DOWN
Before I throw a bunch of numbers at you, I'd like to do a simple break down so things aren't as intimidating. Below are a few F.A.Q, then we'll get to the good stuff.

What are stats?
Each main lined soa (sorry familiars) get their own set of stats that can be used to calculate outcomes.

How do I know what stats my soa get?
Below is a list of the adult stats as well as the adolescence stats for each species.

How will I keep track of my soa's stats?
Once the pride is created, a general stat thread will be created which will house all the stats for each individual player. The stats will be updated when the owner posts new information.

Will the stats grow?
Yes, please read the Training post below.

How do I calculate the stats when my adol grows into adult?
A staff member will do it for you, but essentially, you add on the base adult stats to your adol stats. Please refer to the Adolescence Stats paragraph for more information.

My adol stats are higher than my future adult stats. What do I do?
The base adult stats are still added to your existing adol stats. So if you're adol lion has a strength of 10, then when it grows into an adult~ it'll have 15 strength.

Stats are confusing, do I have to use them?
Nope! Stats are only for the dice portion of the games. So if you're more into rping the whole thing, then there's no need to worry about numbers.

SOA STATS

[For more info on specific stats, please click here.]

Each species gets their own set of stats used for dice gaming. Depending on the type of animal, they have their own advantages and disadvantages. It’ll take planning in order to formulate a complete team. Familiars do not get their own stats and cannot contribute to the stats.

The stats are Strength, Speed, Endurance, Intensity, and Agility. Species have their own advantages and disadvantages. For example, a lion has more strength than a cheetah, but a cheetah has more speed. This way, you can formulate a well balanced team using different animals.

Adults and adolescent get stats, juveniles and cubs do not. Adolescence are considered old enough to get involved and will often mentor with a fellow teammate if they are drafted onto a team. Juves and cubs may practice amongst themselves, but they are not strong/big enough to get involved with the team.

PostPosted: Wed Jan 30, 2013 1:02 pm
TRAINING

Every athlete needs to train in order to get stronger. Training is done through rping and playing games. Each training exercise that is completed will earn your soa one point to a stat of their choice excluding endurance. Endurance boosts will be given out in special events. Each game completed, either dice or strictly rp, will give the soa three stat points to their choosing.
Squirts and Juniors are too young to train. However, Juniors may join a team and essentially be a powder monkey. Juniors will not receive any stats points for this.

A completed training must meet soa breeding rules. So, at least 1000 words or ten posts.
Some examples of training exercises are:
- Running
- Swimming
- Tree climbing
- Log lifting
- and anything else you can think of that's physical.

Pairing up your soa with a trainer is an excellent way to gain more points. A trainer to player rp will award the player with two stat points instead of one if they did so by themselves. However, the player must train with a soa of a trainer rank.

TEAMS

A team is a group of players than band together to compete. Your soa must be in a team in order to participate in games with stats. It's easier to keep track of stats if only players receive them. However, any rank can play a game if it's strictly rp.

To formulate a team, you need to gather at least three players and a coach. The maxim number of players on a team is 10. A coach could possibly lead up to three teams. So the same coach may work with multiple teams. Teams may establish their own set of rules. For instance, only blue colored animals may apply. They may also discriminate against species. Essentially, the coach can decide who she/he wants on their team.

Each team needs to elect a captain. The captain can be any player. Their role is to support the players on the field where the coach can not. Coaches are restricted to the sidelines.

As far as game play, only team vs. team is allowed in dice games. If not enough team members are online to play, then substitute members from another team may step in.

EVENTS

All-Star Game
A time of great celebration! Where all the best players play for each other and the love of the game.

Playoffs
The elimination rounds. Teams battle for a chance to win the Kikombe.

Final Kikombe
The holy cup that all players wish to clutch in their paws! Only the number one team who survives the playoffs may be allowed to gain possession of the cup until next season.

Draft
When a soa reaches their adolescence stage, they are allowed to finally pick a team to join. Coaches draft the most promising young talent in order to keep the team thriving. [Consider this a jrp for adol to join a team. It's ideal for it to be with the coach, but the rp can be completed with a fellow teammate.]

Recruiting
Teams need the best players and must gather them by any means necessary. Kidnapping is an option, though it's hard to convince an adult to perform in a game when they're pissed off. We suggest snagging them while they're young. Or...you know... you could just ask for them to join.
