In which a small distraction...

...proves a huge problem.

Quote:
Rain has returned to the Motoujamii, and for the first time in years, the desert is flourishing. Small oasises have returned to their rightful places, and the river that runs through the Southern border, out into rogue lands has become a hot bed of desert life.

There's only one problem: all of this attention is starting to agitate firekin border patrols, who aren't used to dealing with so much activity from just about every species around!

Firekin: You've been asked to patrol the northern side of the riverbed, making sure that only game is allowed to enter into the Motoujamii. Although your feelings might be to the contrary, you're under strict orders not to engage.

Rogues: Maybe you've dreamt of crossing the desert and have heard its now safer with the water caches. Or maybe you've just come for a drink. Either way, you now find yourself being stonewalled by the local guard.

[ NOTE: This is not directly plot related. ]

But if you are looking to be caught up to speed, check out the plot summary!

Hello, hello helloooo.

Welcome to another firekineveryone event! This time there are NO RESTRICTIONS as to who can come adventure with us! If you can play it, you can involve your character.* Lions, hyenas, wild dogs...maybe be careful with prey beasts though! Lions get hungry.

We'll be running this a bit like a DM game. At times I will bold a post, presenting a problem or issue that the group can work to solve.

User Image

arrow Some notations about the event!:

- We roll by dice! Events, attacks, ect. Individual rules will be announced in red bolded text for each 'event'. These are usually fairly simple. You can check out this recent RP to see how I usually run them.

- That said, your SOA is in NO DANGER. You are free to injure them if you have a low roll, but it is not needed.

- You may jump in at any time during this RP! It will be assumed your character has just been silent.

- THESE RPS SOMETIMES MOVE FAST. Please forgive us if we miss someone. NPC characters will try their best to respond to any questions and assistance given.

- Anyone may join! Rogues, lions, hyenas, wild dogs, ect. ect. Gods we ask use a mortal form if they can! I will also not bias rolls if a god is present, unless it is an incredibly specific incident.

- This is not plot related, so do not worry about knowing the current state of firekin things.

- Cubs may be banned from certain rolls, it depends on how many we have.

AND OF COURSE. WE HAVE PRIZESSS.

He will be handed out raffle style between all posts!

The water was cool on her throat. It was a sensation she was still getting used to. Other savannah dezians might have found the water quite warm. It was the desert, after all. But for a firekin who had been born at the height of the drought, even this lukewarm water was a farcry from the dank pools they'd been living off of for the better part of her life.

Kiowaa swallowed, the momentary satisfaction distracting her from the job at hand. On the other side of the riverbank there were a few nervous desert herbeast, lapping up what water they could. They were welcome of course.

It was the rogues on the other side that weren't. One in particular, a rather dark brown cheetah with the strangest eyes she'd seen outside of Armada, was nervous pacing back and forth the length of the waterbank. She'd been keeping an eye on him. There was a pretty good chance that if he managed to make it over the water, he'd give them a good chase.

Possibly even get past them. Although she wasn't quite ready to concede to that.

On the opposite side of the water, the cheetah was muttering to himself. "Lions, they act like they run the place...! They don't even know...!"

Kiowaa might have even felt sorry for the rogues who happened to be stuck with him on the opposite side. He hadn't shut up for the past three hours.

Celosia was so happy that the water had returned once again. It had been so long - she had grown up from cubhood, and in to adulthood, during the vast duration of the drought. And although she was still just a young adult, it made her feel like a child again. It brought forth so many childhood memories.

So it was no surprise that she came bounding like a young thing towards the bank, sliding to a stop in the loose sands beside Kiowaa.

"Woah~"

All those heardbeast... What a sight! She almost missed the pacing cheetah as she stared on.

Nar was so happy the waters returned. Food would be plentiful now, and he would be a lot less irritated about going home hungry. Flicking his tail as he walked down the river, he saw two lionesses up ahead. A grin played on his face as he casually walked up to them, tilting his head a bit.

"Ladies," he greeted, nodding his head.

His eyes glanced to the cheetah that wasn't too far off. He'd be keeping tabs on that one. He just had a bad feeling about him.

It had only been a few weeks since Hila was sent away from his new home, the cheetahs disbanding for one reason or another. He didn't mind, of course. He was used to the life of a rouge. He figured it might be best to stay that way now that his attempt at pride life had flopped. They had been very strict about flirting there, anyway...lots of males got very upset with him if he said a kind thing to their lady friends. He was just making polite and charming conversation!

His travels brought Hila to the desert. He had skirted its boarders in the past during his travels, but he had heard from various passing wildlife that the rains had finally come to the lands and it made it safe to travel, as long as one puddle-jumped from water hole to water hole. Hila was a curious sort, and the idea of seeing what lay beyond the desert interested him greatly. So, what better time than now to try?

The cheetah approached a rather swollen river with a light gait, golden eyes surveying the other side. There were a few lions gathered, but that much was to be expected. This was the desert, after all, and this was a mighty fine water source! On his side was one other cheetah, so he ambled over to the brown male with a winning smile.

"Afternoon," he said in greeting, tail flicking back and forth. "What a lovely sight this is! Prey and predators coming together to enjoy a rather wonderful river." He could only imagine how dry and small it had been previously. He glanced to his left to eye the nervous beasts that were wading in the water. Thankfully he wasn't terribly hungry.

User Image Samhain looked around the unfamiliar territory and grunted out a soft, "Where the hell am I." Nothing looked recognizable nor were there distinguishing lands marks that could be found in the Rogue. "Lilith!" He growled out. "You told me you knew where you were going!"

"I'm sorry master! Ever so sorry!" She blinked her dark eyes innocently at the male lion. "I got distracted by this smell-"

He let out a snarl and stomped on the ground causing his familiar, or slave depending on how you looked at it, to jump as well as squeak. "You are giving me a headache. I ask for one thing...one thing and-" He sighed tiredly while rolling his eyes upwards. "I am surrounded by morons." A faint noise distracted his inner pity party. Sam narrowed his eyes when he took in three lions and two cheets by a watering hole. "Wonder what's going on here."

Kiowaa wasn't the only one watching the brown cheetah. P'leimis, too, was watching it, far too focused to notice much else. It had been weeks since he'd so easily lost to their sister, Ban, and P'leimis had, truthfully... Not done much to improve. His temper WAS still there, just itching to come out, but now he was biting his tongue. The white lion paced, sneering at the skinny brown feline, then the blue one that joined him, before he looked over to their cousins. For a moment... He forgot the cheetah as Celosia stared at the herdbeasts, and his gaze followed... "Whoa..." It was like he'd noticed them for the first time. How are there so many of those...?"

Someone else was watching, though more from a distance up river. On as good a perch as she could find, a red lioness lay on her stomach, paws crossed as she watched with a smile. Fascinating... Someone had laid claim to the desert... And now there were cheetahs and rogues wanting in... Chanda stretched out, letting out a yawn, before she looked to her brother, a horn of her skull-helmet brushing the sand. "I think we need to bring the others, Yuudai... It'd be best if you go get them... It's time we came home to OUR desert, don't you think...?"

The male lion walked over to where his sister was, watching as well before he shook his head. "No. Not yet." He looked to the sky. "This isn't a good time... Not for ALL of us... But..." He leaned down. "You can go integrate... And come back to us with word, yes?" It seemed like they'd been waiting a lifetime... Soon, very soon... But it had to be the right moment so nobody would get HURT. Yuudai was no leader, but he knew that their numbers were too few for an accidental war... And the locals would be protective of precious desert water. The gray-maned lion turned and padded away. "I trust you to not have this go wrong, Chanda."

The lioness gave a wave of her paw, before she grabbed her stick and stretched, sliding down hill before loping along. Oh, this was going to be FUN...! She LOVED playing mind games!

Iroh sat patiently at the borders, as calm as he ever was, watching the visitors and doing his best to make sure they did not pass into the pridal lands. He was a calm and kind lion, on the older side these days but he hardly seemed to notice.

He looked around at the others that gathered, both rogue and fellow Firekin alike, and regarded each with a serene look and a nod. He kept his eyes on those that might cause trouble, knowingly or not, his tail flopping lazily behind him.

As long as no one started a fight, he was sure today would be a nice and leisurely day. There was no need to be violent, unless their needs were pushed. He was just as for defending his lands as he ever was, but perhaps his age was catching up to him. He was quicker to words than to his paw these days, though his strength shouldn't be underestimated.

He was still more than capable.

Morag watched the goings on with cool red eyes, sitting quietly in the shade on the other side of the river from her pridemates. It had been a long week since she'd left to meet with some of her watchers and she'd come back to find increased patrols all along the border. Not that it was an issue for her... most knew her by sight and would let her through without question. If anything, the increased patrol was a good thing. It meant less change for the northern enemy to sneak through in the influx.

No, today was just a lazy day. The spymaster had chosen to sit back and watch for a while before making the crossing, in the off chance something happened and they needed an extra set of paws on this side. The rambling from the cheetah, though, was even getting on her nerves.

Kiowaa nodded her head in greeting as Nar and Celosia approached. While she wasn't exactly too concerned about the situation...it felt good to have a few extra paws on hand. P'lemis, Iroh, and Morag too. More than enough force to remind these rogues just who owned this side of the desert.

"Nothing much to report here," she said officiously to the two. "A couple of small herd-groups made it across the water. Couple of hyenas tried to follow, but we told them what was what."

That, she was rather proud of. Ever since the incident with the hyenas, Kiowaa had something of an axe to grind against their kind. Luckily it didn't seem like any of them were making a resurgence on the other side. "No sign of those bonelanders either. They must be still on their migration."

---

Across the way, things were not progressing well. The cheetah shook his head, shrugging off his fellow's greeting. "No, no. There's nothing wonderful about it! The Ramadi is going to pass through any day now and I'm not on the other side!" He narrowed his bright eyes, fixating upon the various red lions that lined the shore of the other side.

The cheetah's tail twitched. It looked like he might be considering another attempt to make it across!

arrow Rogues, you may attempt to stop him.

- Roll a dice, 10. Over five, and you intercept him.
- Or, you may wait and see if he can make it across.

Hila took note of the other creatures starting to gather. There were more lions on either side of the small river, a canine of some kind with one of them, and more of the rather skittish prey beasts. He wondered how long the area had been without rain, that it would draw such a crowd to this place. Was it really worth crossing, then? Perhaps the desert was all there was. He didn't want to get stuck out there for ever. Plus, those lions on the other side kept staring at them in a decidedly unfriendly way.

His companion's words pulled him from this thoughts and he trained his golden eyes on the smaller male one more. "The what?" he asked, his voice carrying far more enthusiastic interest than he felt. The brown cheetah was a bit off, he could see that much right away, but perhaps he knew something Hila did not.

The stillness of the other cheetah made Hila frown just a bit, his easy-going manner grinding to a halt. It looked as though the other male wanted to cross that river, right into the waiting paws of those lions. That is, if the river didn't sweep him away first. Cheetahs were fast, but they were also very light, and he was pretty sure that crossing the river in this particular area would end up badly for the younger male.

"Hey now...what's with that look?" he asked, moving to stand between the other cheetah and the river. "You'll get swept away trying to cross here."

Heiko had the unfortunate displeasure of running across the brown cheetah three hours prior.

Sitting rather stoic nearby, ears flat at the constant complaining, Heiko just didn't feel right leaving the feline in such a state of distress. Of course, he had just come to the river to have a drink; one new to this part of the land would seek water whenever possible. However, when he encountered the cheetah in a rather similar state, Heiko decided to stick around and assure himself that the other didn't do anything... rash. It really wasn't any of his business but a part of him would whither and fill up with guilt if he just walked away.

Pink ears twitching, Heiko stared at all the new arrivals. He remained silent, observing the lions across the river, the mix of creatures on their side. Lions, cheetahs, and a maned wolf. The pink leopards ears twitched in nervousness.

Hearing the cheetah rambled about crossing again, Heiko sighed, drooped his head, before before inching forward. Of course, he kept caution; anyone who rambled about crossing the river for three hours straight has got to be crazy.

"That might not be the best of ideas." Heiko advised, eyeballing the rather large lions; why did they seem like giants? "Isn't there, I don't know, another place where you can cross? That's not being watched by a pride of lions? You don't necessarily have to cross here, with this large audience..." Heiko finished lamely, ducking his head at how weak his persuasion was.

Sam raised an eyebrow and watched as the other rogues tried to dissuade the cheet from crossing the water. "Oh no please no." He murmured quietly not really caring if the cheetah went across or not. Sam heard Lilith giggle quietly off to the side. He looked at his claws in boredom before looking up. Oh maybe this could be interesting what if the cheet did fail what then? Hmmm. Maybe he should stick around...for entertainment sake. He indicated for Lilith to follow him, it would be nice to get a closer look.
