Ah but what about a battercake, or a flannel-cake, a flapcake, or possibly a flapjack, griddlecake, or even a hotcake?
... and since we are on the subject what is your perceived difference between a pancake and a waffle? I have actually seen both made with the same batter. So is the only difference the pan used to cook them?
EDIT: I looked up the difference and according to my research the difference has diminished over the years due to non stick cookware but basically waffles had more oils to cause them to be thicker and less likely to stick to the waffle iron.

That is weird, I never thought about that XD. I guess waffles are just specially shaped pancakes
