Early evening had a full view of the moon. Gaki liked to wake up just a bit early so he could watch the setting of the sun. The giant fire orb's light flickered just beyond the horizon until it finally gave in and faded away allowing the darkness to swallow the sky and lesser lights to show their beauty. Gaki was a bit of a romantic when it came to watching the small things in life. The lion would soak all the beauty he was allowed.
Shortly after the lion began his patrol he had a small run in with a mouse. This run in didn't last long as Gaki was more than happy to scoop the poor small mammal up in to his powerful jaws and help him self to a small snack.
All and all , aside from the mouse, the patrolling was relatively tame. This was the norm for day to day. It was like the pride had just accepted everything and moved on with their lives which was good for Gaki. It made his job a lot easier. The lion still took his patrols pretty seriously and did a pretty good job keeping his eyes and ears opened.

Uchanjaa had been up earlier than most, enjoying the afternoon sunlight. This business of being nocturnal was the most readily apparent of all the changes Shangyue had put into place after usurping the crown. The brown lion's lip curled at the thought. He'd like nothing more than to thrash the purple lion the way he deserved, but that would have to wait. No one had approached him yet, but the Guard was certain that there were others out there who were actively working to resist the current rule.
He'd have to make contact, somehow, and lend them his help. He'd tried, during that mess, but too few had been willing to stand up against Shangyue. They'd need more supporters and sympathizers if they were to truly overthrow the murderer.
His lip curled further as he spotted one of the so-called "Royal Guards" lounging around. The standards these days. Not a one of that group of loyalists had the training or discipline to join the real Guards, so they had their own Shangyue-approved group. Not to mention they were his dogs, to bit and bark at his command.
Annoyed, was he? Oh, yes, a little. So much so that Uchanjaa arranged his steps to walk right past the white lion, nose in the air, acting the Lord he had every right to be, but had declined in favor of something more actively useful to the pride.

The sudden appearance of Uchanjaa was surprising. Gaki watched as the guard lifted his nose in the air. The white lion couldn't help but think that this lion might be trying to say something like he was better than him or something. Gaki's stance went to something a little more secure and stiff. It wasn't in Gaki's nature to be confrontational but damn it.
"Good evening," He offered with a tight smile giving acknowledgement to the brown lion and nothing more. He wasn't about to silently stand there and just accept that kind of behavior. Gaki might have been low class but as a royal guard he had quite an important task to do every day and it wasn't unknown that Uchanjaa was not a fan after the way he'd acted.

Now, Uchanjaa didn't really think there was much difference between any of the classes. He didn't think that he was morally superior to the other lion simply because he'd been born in the middle class and was now, because of his beloved, a member of the high class.
But he was better. Better trained, more experienced...generally much more deserving of the word "guard" in his title. And no matter what happened, there was no way Uchanjaa could ever forgive Shangyue. Not for killing his own mother, Selene, the lioness that the brown lion had been responsible for protecting when she'd been younger.
If only he'd still been her Royal Nanny. Despite the fact that she'd been mated as well as an adult in her own right, the older lion couldn't help thinking that if only he'd been there, things might have turned out differently.
So in some ways it wasn't the Royal Guards or even Shangyue that Uchanjaa hated most. It was himself, for not being able to save Selene.
All of that and more was why he refused to even acknowledge that the white male had spoken to him. Really, it was better for everyone that Uchanjaa not be given an opportunity to vent his anger and frustration.

Gaki's greeting fell on silence with none in return. The lion wasn't surprised but that didn't mean he was not slightly disappointed or annoyed. Gaki took a seat and watched the brown lion for a moment. He opened his maw with words at the tip of his tongue only to close his maw once more.
Huh.
Gaki tried again to speak.
"The moons almost full. It's quite lovely evening to be out," An attempt to interact was tried once more. Probably because Gaki hated the awkward. Deep down the white lion could not shake the feeling that he best be on his way, but Gaki ignored those feelings.

The brown lion stopped walking as the white male spoke again. He wondered, idly, if the young idiot had a death wish or something else like that. And were this any other point in time, Uchanjaa would probably have already greeted the other kindly and made pointless polite conversation.
Unfortunately, Shangyue's rule was still new and raw and altogether painful for a lion of the old school. And the Royal Guard was all too eager to bear the brunt of Uchanjaa's ill-will to the new regime.
"It is not," he returned at last, looking over his shoulder with disdain. "The Great Lion's eye is dimmed, as He mourns for the pointless deaths of his favored ones."
The edge was easy to hear in the Guard's voice. It warned the younger lion to press him no further.

Gaki actually got up and took a few steps back away from the brown lion. He wasn't sure what he expected by starting small talk with a known none shangyue supporter or why he'd tried in the first place but now the two were locked in some kind of interaction. The choice now was to turn his back and return to his duties or to press on further.
"The moon looks the same as ever ." He said keeping his tone leveled. "Its light bathes lanscape in light along with the stars. I do not think that the great lion is mourning." Gaki shrugged.

"Well you wouldn't, would you," Uchanjaa replied, somewhat nastily. Of course a Royal Guard would only see the beauty in the night - everything was right with his world and in fact things were better than ever for the low class. That was all well and good, but it didn't change the fact that the Mwezi had lost some valuable members to Shangyue's power-hungry ambition, and not all of them were dead. Hell, some of the surviving members of the royal family had decided to start new lives elsewhere, and the brown lion didn't blame them in the least!
It was something he and Kibi had considered at the time, but living as rogues again hadn't appealed to either of them, especially given what their journey to the Mwezi had been like the first time. Needless to say, it wasn't an experience either of them was eager to repeat. On the other hand, they did have that past, something which most of the other departees lacked.
But none of that musing was going to help him with this idiot of a white lion in front of him.
"But just because you think it's true doesn't make it so," he continued. "It's all propaganda, in the end."

Gaki could tell that if he continued this conversation it would turn even more sour. Causing a fight was not what the royal guard was here for. They were hear to make sure the peace remained and no one tried to cause problems for Shangyue. Gaki opened his maw and closed it not wanting to cause a fight.
So instead the lion turned his back on the brown lion and started off in the opposite direction. Mainly to clear his head. He was sure his superiors would be cross with him if he was to cause an uproar or a fight out in the open. It was best that the white lion remove him self and patrol else where.
Though the thought of propaganda stuck with him. What had he meant by that?
It wouldn't be worth it to continue to bug the brown lion so the question went unasked.

The brown lion suppressed the urge to call out to the the younger male mockingly. It really wasn't something he'd do, and he found the fact that he was even considering such actions to be vaguely repulsive. True, he had justification, but that didn't mean it was a part of who he was.
Really, the Royal Guard had shown much more sense than Uchanjaa would have expected by walking away. And in some ways the older was glad he'd done so.
The brown lion contented himself with a snort and continued on his way. It really was a nice night out.
