Hello!

This is a contest for the concept pack Saba'nyumba

Information on the pack can be found here

This contest will run for 10 days, until April the 8th, at 9pm GMT.

The Seven houses are incredibly spiritual, with their interests primarily in nature, herblore and rituals. A friendly and accepting pack, they hold no known judgement against another, and are grateful for all this land has given them.

It started with a litter of seven, with only meals and visits provided by their mother, their attention began to wander. They found they each found a different path in life, and a different calling in nature.

Each dog took a pilgrimage of sorts to find others that followed the same path and began to find those with similar characteristics to their house, or similar ideas in profession. Once the groups grew larger, one by one the seven groups came to rest in the forest which is now their home, and established order, ranks, and what is known now as the Seven Houses.

Rules.

1) These pups all had the same basic history. They were raised by their mother who did little other than bring them food. They developed their own passions and a sense of adventure.
2) Be kind to one another, please do not whine/beg
3) Please ask any questions you may have <3
4) The right is reserved that we may re-contest the dogs in the unlikely event we do not have suitable entries.
5) This is an RP-encouraged position. As you will be the leader of the respective houses, we would ask that you would RP your dog. That being said, it is understandable when RL get's in the way and thus it is not mandatory. There may or may not be opportunities in the future for very active members to become leaders via challenges.
6.) As this generation are the first leaders and thus the "inventors" of each houses profession, it is assumed they are masters/follow the profession of their respective house heavily, but this may not always be the case for future leaders. A leader must have a sound understanding of the profession, but need not have mastered it. There are masters to help those who are unsure in their profession.

There's a fire somewhere in this heart.

User Image

This is the leader of the Fire house.

Those in the Fire house usually have an interest in being a warrior, or are strong, fiery and passionate. You are the leader. Are you a hardcore warrior yourself? As the leader you have a good understanding of how to lead warriors, but what is the biggest challenge this leader faces as a member of the Fire house? This can be a description, an RP prompt-type answer or anything you can think of.

As the leader of the Earth house you are a brilliant Herbalist. There is an RP-prompt for this male.

Name:Aquietar'Calmante
Personality: Calmante has a welcoming air to him, he does not seem to the sort to judge you. Gentle and kind, there is no doubt that this guy has the paws to heal any sort of ailment, be it a wound or something much deeper. He enjoys a good laugh, but dont let his easy nature fool you, he keeps a keen eye on those in his house. Their jobs are not to be taken lightly, it is important things they do and he will not let anything less than the best talents be used to aid those of the pack. Always trying to find new remedies to aid those, he can sometimes be consumed by his work, his passion.
Answer to prompt: His nose twitched at the scent in the air, it was something familiar, but he couldnt put his paw on it. Carefully he followed the smell, only to stand eyes wide at the sight before him, an elephant calf...well it wasnt exactly a calf anymore but not quiet an adult yet..half grown, stuck between two stages. He marveled at the sheer size of the creature, before that smell caught his attention once more...Infection. He snorted, and carefully he began his approach on the elephant, careful not to come off like he was a danger to the giant. He hummed a soft hymn he had herd as a pup, it was soothing and calmed any pups that came his way. The elephant kept a weary eye on the canine, not really threatened by wild dog but in an injured state, you could never be sure.
Carefully he came upon the elephants source of infection, it looked like a nasty lion bite perhaps, he couldnt tell 100% as the wound was swollen and puss filled, the smell of it was foul. Calmante snorted as he reached into the pouch he wore, pulling out a mixture of dry and fresh herbs he sat, spitting on the herbs and scooping up some earth in his paw he made a sticky paste, mashing and grinding the herbs and earth together, releasing the benefits of the herbs. He rubbed the balm over the wound, whispering words of healing as he worked, ever careful not the spook the animal that could surely crush him. Once the wound was completely covered, Calmante smelt the wound, the foul odor was already growing weak, he nodded his head. Carefully he backed away and slipped back into the forest from where he came, he did not heal to be praised or find payment, it was simply his desire to help those willing to take his aid. Within a few days the elephant would be just fine, and maybe one day be of use to the pack but that would be seen at a later day. For now Calmante went to find more herbs to heal the pack, to replace what he had used and as always gather more for the supplies. It had been a good day, he thought with a nod of his head. A good day indeed.

Name: Zdenko
Personality: Happy, calm, encouraging of everyone around him and somewhat of a moocher; he can be quite the chatterbox when it comes to anything to do with his house. He sees the beauty in anything and everything. To him: the world is but his studio and nature contains all the materials he needs to create new art. He will encourage the crafters working in his house as he believes them all talented artists, even if they aren't so much. He believes in listening to everyone around him and giving his honest- but kind opinion on the matter will teach lessons on how to advance forward in life. He rarely gets angry at anyone as he tries his hardest to see everyone's outlook and will supress his rage when it boils. That isn't to say he's a perfect being. He has a lot of flaws! Such as forgetting where he puts things (even when they're right in front of him) and delaying important tasks he would much rather avoid. He is downright a child in some sense, but he is intelligent and manipulative when he wants to be. That is... If he ever wanted to be.
Answer to prompt:
How did you first discover your talent for crafting? What did you make, and what would be the most adventurous or inventive thing you could/would make?

The world was wonderful. The way the strains of grass swayed delicately in the wind... The sound of sweet honey bees swimming through the air. Even the humble fly resting his tired legs on a fallen log. Everything, he could catch it, mend it together and create something unique because of it. Mom didn't appreciate it. Heck, she wasn't even their half the time! But he knew he was special. Zdenko knew he was unique. The forest creatures he talked to told him so. They had to be right! They had seen more, heard more and lived longer than he. Thus it only made sense they had to be right, right?

He took a big breath in. He slowed his breathing, calmed his nerves. Being riled up wasn't helping, and doubting his solid opinion wasn't either. He opened his eyelids so his emerald gaze could oversee everything. He had wandered off independently today, again, without his mother's consent. Not that she cared, Zdenko thought with a prompt eye roll. Today he was on a particular mission. He needed to find new interesting looking materials so he could create something pretty. He had create little things before, mostly edible things for his forest friends or siblings. For example, he'd braid together the strains grass outside the den, then wrap the strains around a berry he had found. Maybe he would use creamy green moss as glue to hold the creations together, and then maybe he would just let it fall apart. Depended on how much he liked them really, but to him they were all beautiful.

Today however he did not want grass, he did not care for bugs and berries and he certainly didn't want to be stuck looking for more... Ugh, he shuddered, dirt. He wanted more than anything to create something unique and special- only to him. Already he had in his mouth a blue feather tickling his cheek, a bunch of dried out grass and an empty bone of some sort placed on his head. It was hard to balance all these materials and walk at the same time, but Zdenko had a very clear idea in his head of what he wanted! The bone would become a vial, to hold paint from crushed berry juices. Those were horrible to try and move, as it would drip everywhere except where he was painting! Speaking of, he would probably paint the bone itself. The color it was currently was bland and tasteless. It needed more... Him in it. Secondly he would tie it all together with the dried grass, in the form of string. He would intertwine his feather (that was currently being drooled on) on it too, but to make his newest idea work he needed something else to tie it all together. Like- Like- a bead. No, no! A whole bunch a beads! Enough to make it look like he was wearing a dream catcher of some sort. Yes, it could work, he just needed to find said beads.

Zdenko also needed to make a pouch to hold all this stuff. Then he could stitch on different vials for multiple colors inside. Then he could paint his dream! His masterpiece! His life's goal of creations! A painting so huge it would span an entire boulder, and so intricate and involved that one could write a poem of it's beauty. A whole story of a society contained within, so that generations upon generations later one would still look at it with awe. Yes, he nodded, this was his goal. He needed to finish his current projects but after that he could begin working on his masterpiece. He joyfully skipped with excitement and continued his search for beads. They were the first step towards a lifetime of success. But where could they have been hiding? Hmm...

Name: Yejide
Personality: If those who knew her had to pick one word to describe Yejide, it would be intense. In everything she does, she's got to to be the one that goes the hardest. Incredibly competitive and a bit of a sore loser, Yejide gives everything one hundred and ten percent. She's blunt and believes that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, and it takes a special breed to withstand her abrasive personality. Always ready for a fight, Yejide has a fiery temper that is hard to extinguish and her determination is just as impressive. Stubborn and belligerent, she embodies the spirit of a warrior perfectly. If she's going down, she's going down swinging. Her loyalties are with her family and pack and she would do anything for any of them. Yejide's mind is cunning and tactical, making her a dangerous opponent in battle. Her power and loyalty are worth putting up with her harsh personality...in most cases.
Answer to prompt: New recruits. Yejide knew they were important to the pack, but gods were they awful at drills. She didn't sit back and rub her paws over her face often, but today was one of the days that she allowed her pounding headache to grab her attention from her duties. The rouges and adolescents that were here were a rowdy bunch, as were the rest of the Fire house, but there was one thing that set this group of jokers aside from the warriors she knew and loved: discipline. That's what she was here to do today. Barking orders was no problem for her, and neither was dishing out punishment, but when it was obvious a wild dog didn't belong here, it made her chest ache to see them cower before her with their tail tucked between their legs. Not all that were born into a house would stay there, and it was usually the first day of 'being broken', as she called it, that they realized it. Of course there was that guilt of letting one's family down, needing to move to a different house. There was an incredible amount of pride that circled through the Fire house, and those youngsters that didn't fit in felt incredibly out of place. Of course, it always worked out in the end...they'd find a house they liked more, they worked better in, and that would be that.

But for now, she had to weed out the pups from the adults.

Moving to her feet, Yejide narrowed her eyes and put on her best warrior face. That shut up about half those that were gathered, while a few of the younger wild dogs continued to giggle and snicker with each other. She padded lightly over to them, ears up and tail held high.

"What do you think you're doing?" she snapped, her jaws between the two yammering heads. Both fell back instantly at the sudden interruption. "This is your first day of training and you're laughing? This isn't den time anymore, you mongrels!"

The fear in the two sets of eyes made her heart ache. This was always so hard to do to those that weren't born for it...but in the end, it was for their own good. "You're going to be a warrior right? Then stand up, get your tail out from under you, and look forward!" She continued to bark orders at the two until one broke down in hysterics. She turned away and let the youngster have his moment, but once he was done she snarled at him to leave. He did so, scurrying back to his parents, no doubt. It was sad to see him go, but she pressed on with the breaking. She'd be doing this again in a few months time, after all...there was no time to let her pity show for those that couldn't' take the heat.

Name: Kancane // Slow
Personality: Slow to anger, even slower to judge, Kancane has always just been 'slow' in general. Contemplative, and cautious, he thinks thoroughly before he acts; there is only one situation in which he acts quickly - when people are injured. He grew up experimenting with herbs, learning on himself which herbs were safe to eat, and definitely not safe to eat (there was a few psychotropic trips in the early days).

Answer to prompt:

The tiny flowered plant was hanging precariously above his face, just out of reach even when he stood on his back paws. Frustrating, but not worth getting upset about. He sunk back down into a sit, staring in idle contemplation, tail flicking gently behind him. He sat in complete silence for a few minutes, trying to decipher a way to grab the flower hanging so temptingly before him, but so far out of his reach.

The silence was broken with the sound of a distress trumpeting. Ears flicking in curiosity, Cane tilted his head towards the noise. Ah! He recognised that call, it was universal to all species. That was the 'Help!' noise. He glanced towards the flower, making a note to return to it, before padding in the direction of the sound.

It wasn't hard to find the injured bundle of grey skin. Curled up in the mud, the baby elephant was obviously distraught - the 'help' call, was definitely a 'help, mommy!' call, but it seemed the mother was no where to be seen. How sad.

Spotting him, the trumpeting became more frantic, and the baby tried to shuffle away from him, which only resulted in yet another injured call as it agitated the bite wound on it's hind quarters. Looked like perhaps a hyena? But hyenas didn't attack live prey like elephants - how strange!

Cane laid on his belly, emitting a low whine of comfort. The elephant stilled, eyeing his submissive position suspiciously. They stayed like that for hour, the elephant crying out occasionally, and keeping a fixed gaze on him. He was happy to wait though, watching closely for any signs of infection in the bite.

As night fell, the elephants eyes grew heavy, and soon closed before him, slumping in the mud around him in sleep. This left the baby even more vulnerable, so Cane knew he had to act quickly. Rising to his paws, he padded over gently, reaching his nose into the bag by his side, grabbing the particularly pungent herb that he wanted. He chewed it in his mouth, making a quick salve before nosing it onto the wound. It tasted horrible, and he knew it would sting the elephant baby, so he had waited until sleep had taken her before doing it. The salve went on quickly, and would clear out any infection.

Again, he reached into the pouch, pulling out the rolled up hare-hide that he kept in stock. He placed it over the salve, making a bandage as best he could. The elephant shifted in her sleep, a sad noise coming from her once again.

Cane felt sorry for her, alone in the darkness, but that wouldn't last long.

Once the bandage was attached, he laid near her side, watching the darkness for any signs of movement. As the dawn broke around them, he scuttered out with a scent stuck in his nose.

Thankfully, elephant herds were not hard to find. The matriach was looking particularly distressed, and stomped in anger at the sight of Cane, but his barking and attempts to get their attention soon made her suspicious. She directed one of her females to follow her, and Cane took off at a high speed, leading the almost stampeding elephants to where the baby laid still sleeping.

The mother screamed in joy, the loud noise starting the baby elephant awake ; she soon joined in the exclamations of joy.

Cane barked happily off to the side, pleased at his efforts. It took him a second too long to realise that the mother had noticed the bite; a bite, and a wild dog lurking nearby? Doesn't take a genius to get angry!

The mother charged at him. He blinked in shock, but turned tail quick enough. He'd come back to the flower he wanted! He was patient, after all, and the flower would be there long after the angry elephants wanting his blood had gone.
