Diya had already lost one duel. He was not prepared to lose another one. He was better than this, he couldn't understand why he was continuing to fail at this. Surely it was his opponent was too strong, not that Diya was too weak. Surely.
He had never thought of himself as 'vain' or particularly prideful, but the idea of losing a second duel was almost more than he could bare. He growled to himself a little, digging his claws into the ground beneath him as he waited for his opponent.
He would not lose again.

He spotted the waiting lion waiting anxiously. One that he'd met before. Bousvor flicked his tail and went to meet the challenger.
"Back again? Good." Bousvor went into a crouch and started to circle his opponent. Had he healed and gotten better than last time? They were going to find out.

Oh great, it was the same guy. Well, now it was the perfect test of his theory - he would beat this male, because he deserved to be in this pride. If he couldn't beat this particular male, then clearly he wasn't meant to be in the pride. He set his posture, tensing all of his muscles.
He began to slowly mimic the circling of his opponent, keeping each move deliberate. His first strike he aimed towards the face - not pulling any punches - though he kept his claws sheathed. He didn't want to accidentally blind anyone...yet.

His opponent's first move did not seem all that impressive. Bousvor felt his disappointment rise as the lion made to mimic him in his circling. This did not show him any fighting spirit. So distracted he was that he failed to see the paw aimed right as his face.
Bousvor felt the paw hit his jaw as his head got whipped aside. Well! He never saw that coming! The tawny male worked his jaw to be sure it wasn't broken. Nope, and he wasn't cut, but he's have a bruise before long. His opponent kindly had kept his claws sheathed. Shaking his head clear the male turned and tried to barrel into the other lion. He wasn't afraid to throw his weight around.

Diya was still cheering himself for his successful hit that he didn't see him barrelling towards him. He let out an omph noise as the male's full weight slammed into him. He stumbled and let out a low growl.
The only advantage to allowing him to be slammed into was that the male was now awfully close to him, allowing his scrapping claws to try and make purchase on the male's pelt.

Predictably when he threw his weight around, unless the other was expecting and prepared for it, the other went down. Now he had the advantage of still being on his feet. Bousvor tried to use that weight to pin his opponent down trying to bring this challenge to a blood-less end.
Instead found himself dealing with the flailing paws. This was crazy! Instead of trying to get Bousvor off and regain his own feet, the other laid there. Every time he moved in attempting to pin he found himself with paws blocking his chest, or a rear foot digging into his stomach. Not exactly comfortable and now he could feel those claws as they delivered light scratches.
He backed off with a nod. One-on-one for a smaller lion that was a fairly good tactic. Bousvor waited for the other to get up and resume.

Diya counted himself extremely lucky that it had worked in his favour. It could have ended badly, had he been unable to block one of the larger male's attacks. It could have ended the battle completely, but the male seemed to get frustrated at the constant blockings and backed off. Diya hesitated, watching the male for a sign of betrayal, before he rose to his paws - half expecting the male to attack him when he was rising, and therefore weaker.
That would not be honourable though, and he was coming to realise that this battle was not the usual rogue-land scrap, but rather a battle of skill.
Now that he was back on his feet, he knew the battle would continue. His weight would not be an advantage to him, because he was smaller and lighter than his opponent, but perhaps he could use that to his advantage. He moved quickly, striking at the male's hide in quick blows.

Patiently he waited as his challenger got to his feet. He breathed deeply. Ready now for his opponent to come after him Bousvor watched closely. Mentally he gave a mark to the male as he seemed to realize something about this fight. So he was thinking now.
He slithered and scampered around to avoid the blows. Some scored, most didn't. Bousvor bided his time. When he saw an opening he took it. He snapped at an incoming paw and took a hard swipe at the male's head.

Diya had to admit, he knew his attack wouldn't be all that successful. He knew the male would grow tired of the tiny blows and would strike back. Diya honestly didn't expect to see stars when the male struck out though. His head throbbed with pain as he stumbled backwards, but thankfully did not fall.
It took him a moment to be able to see straight again. Damn it, that hurt.
He began circling his opponent again, biding his time and honestly, just trying to stop his head throbbing before he attacked again.

Velveteen Angel Land a good hit in your next post and I can finish it in his next post. <3 It was a nice solid and satisfying hit.
The male looked dazed but kept his feet. Bousvor stalked the other male with intent now looking to finish the fight quickly. It really could go either way in his mind. His tail lashed and his claws flexed, hoping to distract the challenger from where the real attack was coming from with movement. Again he lashed his tail.
He suddenly crouched with his muscles munched and sprung. Ideally he would pounce on the unsuspecting male and pin him. Or he'd settle for knocking the other off his feet again.

Diya saw the crouch and knew what the male had planned. Even with the stars dancing in his vision, he knew what would happen if he stayed in one place. He waited, holding on until he saw the male becoming airborne. Using his smaller stature, he ducked to the ground, making his form as small as possible - well, for the moment.
As the male cleared the top of him, Diya braced his body and launched himself up onto his feet, using his shoulders to ram into the stomach of his opponent, hopefully winding him and knocking him off balance. Or the male would fall and crush Diya, and Diya would die.
He tried not to think about that option though.

Bousvor thought he had the other male right where he wanted him. Instead of getting his paws on him, the challenger ducked under his paws then came up. He felt the breath knocked from him as the male rammed up into his belly. The tawny male soared over and went into a tumbled heap. Several gasping breaths later and he hulled himself to his feet to look at the challenger. He had completely used his size to good advantage.
"Crafty. Good." Bousvor jerked his head back toward the camp, and expecting the new Stormborn to follow made his way back toward the pride.
