Jini-msemi Contests
Hi. My introductions are terrible. Have some swampie contests! I have a few I've been meaning to run, so might as well just toss them all into one thread. >> These will close in three weeks, and you can enter all of them, if you like! You could also theoretically win all of them, but it is unlikely.

The Jackal and the Princess+Looking for Co-owner!
Daughter of La'u Khara'i and her consort Vyoga-kwaa, Jhulsa was a scion when she left on her pilgrimage, and expects to still be such when she returns...when in fact, she will return as an ordinary huntress, as her older half-sister Samudranta has been declared Queen due to their mother's poor health. Not precisely power-hungry or ambitious, Jhulsa is a very serious individual, quite the opposite of her playful, overly-cheerful sibling. By contrast, she is calm, distant, and occasionally even cold. Beneath the calm lies a deep curiosity and desperate need to know anything and everything she can. She is very direct in her pursuit of answers, which doesn't win her many friends.
For now, she's still on her pilgrimage and has yet to find her name; once she does return, she will be tasked by her sister with assembling a small group to return to and possibly recolonize the swamp, depending on its state. At some point on her pilgrimage, she will meet Hafa'i - Jackal - of the Kizingo'zaa (where he is a thief), and he will leave to travel with her, and ideally will eventually preside over the colony with her. How they will meet in the first place is largely up to you!
Jackal's father was a rogue named Eshan, and his mother is a patron named Asthal/Steadfast.Entering for Jackal! Personality: Anything extra to add, ideas, etc.: I'm currently looking for a co-owner for the pride, someone who can help me brainstorm, can run events (which I'm terrible at), etc. Since Jackal would have a leadership position, he'd be ideal for said co-owner! If you enter for him and are also interested in co-owning the pride, please make a note of it. n.n (This isn't a requirement if you enter for him, however! If you're just interested in Jackal and not in being a co-owner, that's totally fine as well.)*Jhulsa and Jackal are third cousins, and while they couldn't ICly be sure of their relation or the degree of it, it's not out of the question that they might suspect it, as Jhulsa and Steadfast (Jackal's mother) each have a variation of the shoulder marking that occurs in the Jini-msemi royal family. Yes, I'm aware that their knowing and being alright with it can be considered a little creepy, but in this case that's pretty much the point. Further note, the colony is going to end up a...bit dark and cult-ish. Keep that in mind if you enter for him!

Made for Each Other (Or Not)
Hal-shikasta is bitter, surly, and wants the world to know that she hates it and everyone in it. She was born into the Jini-misemi in the days of the murderer, Mysmyr. Her mother was killed in the den before Shika and her siblings had even opened their eyes, and grief drove her father mad before he, too, was murdered; she never knew either of them - she and her siblings were raised by her aunt alongside her cousins. Her family are the only ones she has any tolerance - let alone affection - for. When she learned the truth about her parents, suffice to say she...did not take it well. The knowledge has made her angry with the world, and more specifically, at the lions who were in charge at the time - she has a deep-seated hatred towards Narindima'moyo and Piliroho kwa Kwini, and a somewhat tamer contempt for the rest of the royal family.
And yet she chose to return from her pilgrimage anyway, and remains with the pride despite her oft-professed preference for being alone. While she pushes everyone away and refuses to trust anyone, she is also terrified of being completely alone. She interacts with others when she has to, but mostly sticks to the fringes of the pride's territory. Immediately prior to the fire, she argued and very nearly came to blows with Piliroho; afterwards, she received an ultimatum that if she didn't start behaving, she would be exiled. She remains as prickly and unpleasant as ever, but is generally less aggressive than she used to be.
Enter a knight in shining armor some brave fool who actually manages to get close to her somehow. How and why is up to you! To enter, please post:Entering for the Striped Fellow! Name: Meaning: Personality: History: Anything extra to add, ideas, etc.: *I have a tendency to be a very slow RPer, so you probably won't get tons and tons out of me. I have little bursts of activity followed by periods of nothing at all, but I'm very attached to Shika, so I will try. Realistically, however, I do not require that he remain with her forever; just know that if he doesn't, Shika will most likely attempt to kick his a**.

Bright Future?
Above is one of three children of Koko`kizuka, a particularly reclusive seer and daughter of Asali'jua - though few know it to be more than rumor, Asali had favored her to succeed, but she didn't return from her pilgrimage until well after her mother's death. Because of her lateness, her brother Narindima'moyo inherited, followed by Jhonki-sahna and then La'u Khara'i. Many things could have been very different if she had not tarried so long in other lands...
Whether it is regret or simple unsociability, Koko has kept mostly to herself, and would have encouraged but not required her children to do the same. They will have received a traditional Jini-msemi upbringing, but she will also have told them 'bedtime stories' about the Mizimu`Tungika, where she lived for some time with the name Kuimbenye'baridi, and where she would have stayed had the pride not dissolved.
Some time after her children leave for their pilgrimages, Koko will go as part of the group that returns to the swamps, where she will be an advisor of sorts to Jhulsa. When they return, they may choose to follow their mother there.Entering for the Cub! Name: Meaning: Personality: Anything extra to add, ideas, etc.:

Entering for Jackal! Personality: Jackal - who will prefer to be called by his Gypsy name out of habit until he becomes close to others - is a very crafty lion. He gathers information about whatever he can and stores it away to use for his own personal gain at a later date. Having been raised by the Gypsies, he tends to not give straight answers, speaking in riddles and finding great amusement from others frustration. He plays the fool in many situations, acting much dumber than he is in order to lull others into a false sense of security. He's not very physically gifted as far as strength and stamina go, so he relies on his trickery and mind games to help him get ahead in life. He's a huge flirt on top of it all, and enjoys manipulating others for sport. He'll basically do anything to watch someone else squirm. Anything extra to add, ideas, etc.: I'm totally down for dark/creepy things. I can see Jackal, once rising to power, letting it get to his head and warping his already sneaky mind into something dangerous. Totally fine with the distance of relations between them. I'd be more than willing to help you run the pride, too! I'm currently the co-owner of the Kwa Kikombe, a sports based pride, so I've got a little bit of experience running events and things. Not sure where you're going with the darker colony, but there could be some interesting civil war type things at a later date, once the colony gets big enough. Could be interesting owo

Entering for the Cub! Name: Livna Meaning: White in Hebrew Personality: Livna can a little distant but has a huge curiosity. She has an interest in things she probably shouldn't... such as death, disease and sacrifice. A capacity for and an interest in darkness and a thirst for knowledge make her a unique and a little creepy at times, but not an evil lioness. She has a strong mind but an even stronger stomach. Anything extra to add, ideas, etc.: I wanted her to be a little dark without actually being a horrible/mean character. She'd never kill/maim, but she has an interest in goings on, particularly of the morbid nature. If the swamps get a little cult-ish and dark then she would definitely be interested in following her mother. Death and morbid things interest her, but don't please her. I think she would have space for some interesting character development and growth and I'd RP out the more specific personality. I think she would love to find out more about her mothers old pride from both her mother and others, given it's nature.

Entering for the Striped Fellow! Name: Kuabudu Meaning: Adoration Personality: Kuabudu is, to put it simply, dense. He doesn't understand the concept of annoying someone, and any insult or negative comment thrown his way simply rolls off of him as he always assumes they're joking. Any actual, physical aggression, however, will be met two-fold. He's a bit silly, but not to the point where he'll bow down and take a beating, or let someone he cares about be harmed. Words mean nothing to him, but actions he understands pretty well. History: I could easily see Kuabudu seeing Hal-shikasta as a bit of a challenge- he doesn't understand why she's so bent on being alone, and wants to be her friend. He's persistent, which would definitely be an annoyance, but it might break through to her? owo Anything extra to add, ideas, etc.: I'd definitely love to see more than just a romance plot with these two ;u; Like, perhaps she lashes out at him and strikes him or something, and he actually backs off of her rather than continue to be persistent, and she realizes she actually wants him around or something? ;u;
Edit: I couldn't help myself, entering for Jackal as well ;u;
Entering for Jackal! Personality: Jackal could easily be described as being... set in his ways. He is a very intelligent lion, but could be considered misguided. He doesn't really consider opinions of those he doesn't consider on his level- if anyone but those he values most try to argue with him, he shuts them down immediately. He's confident, and this makes it easy for him to find others who will follow him blindly. He's an accomplished fighter, though he also prides himself on being able to destroy those he declares enemies simply by messing with their minds- it's more of a challenge for him, and he loves a good challenge. He's fiercely loyal to his pride and family, though this also makes him obsessive when it comes to getting revenge on those who endanger either, often putting himself and others at unnecessary risk. Anything extra to add, ideas, etc.: If chosen, I'd love to co-own the pride with you. ;u; I don't currently co-own any prides, but I do have a lot of RP experience and do enjoy coming up with big plots and such. I'm very active and have been really wanting to get back into SoA RP, and would have plenty of time to devote to RP and planning. nwn

Entering for Jackal! Personality: True to his name, schemes are the game. Jackal is a clever lion, who wears a cocky grin that goes well with his honeyed words. He'd sooner sink his teeth into your throat than he would give you a friendly lick, but you'd never guess it from his demeanor. He's all to happy to lull others into a false sense of security around himself. All the better to take what they have. All the easier to slip away before they even notice!
Someone once said... "One day life of a lion is better than hundred years life of jackal". Courage is for the foolhardy. A clever lion knows how to work the shadows. A clever lion knows when to strike... A clever lion knows it's far better, safer, the life of a jackal. And he feels no shame at all toward his lack of courage. He's not one for a fight. In fact, he's quite proud of his talents. Perhaps he's mad? He was raised in the land of madmen. It would be odd if he wasn't. Can one tell if they're mad or not? He take's little time to think on it. All the more time to build his collection. He has a fondness for things that shine. He has a fondness for things of beauty. Trinkets, treasures... What next? What shall he take next? Something bigger, better. A lioness... A whole land... He can take more... The greatest thief ever. Anything extra to add, ideas, etc.: I'd love to co-own. I see Jackal as the greedy-sort. Encouraging Jhulsa in her claim to the land gently, sweetly, pointing out her sister's faults, how the land may be endangered in her paws. He would do anything to slowly guide them to the top without breaking his image, all the while darkening the pride with his own presence, thieving in his new playground. Trinkets at first, and then, more vicious crimes.. Cub kidnappings even. Perhaps his stability will go to the point that he will consider them sacrificial now that he's away from the Kizi? So much potential~

Entering for Jackal! Personality: With great power comes great responsibility, but with a great mind comes equally great potential. Jackal has all this charisma and nothing to show for it. Lo and behold, when a pretty little thing sporting a familiar marking happens on by, what's a lion like him to do but be intrigued?
Jackal has a genuine interest in others. True, it might be more curiosity and a desire to problem solve than anything altruistic, but it's sincere none the less. He wants to know what makes those around him tick. What's the most important thing in the world to them? What makes a pride a family as opposed to a source of food and security comprised of lions who just happen to know each other? And, most importantly, how can he be in charge of it?
He's distinct in that he lacks neither passion nor good sense. Everything he says has some degree of rationale to back it, but in explaining his thoughts, he seeks to draw the audience in, to make them part of the master plan, not just another idle witness. He gives motivational speeches and helpful reminders, not lectures.
It's no surprise he's gifted in making what's actually about him seem like it's about you. Jackal can make nearly anyone feel good about themselves and it helps that he goes out of his way to learn about them. He garners his loyalties through compliments, good deeds, and charm if he can.
Overall, Jackal is not an evil lion, but he is capable of evil things.
Anything extra to add, ideas, etc.:
• Totally up for co-ownership and brainstorming / plotting.
• Jackal will try and foist his ambitions for leadership on Jhulsa. The degree and manner in which he does so will depend on their dynamic by time they reach the pride and learn she's been dethroned. It could range from him outright coaching her to being a devil on her shoulder sort of deal.
• As opposed to scheming a civil war, Jackal will try to win other pride members over through non-violent, but very much manipulative means. His goal will be to target the very heart of the pride: their beliefs. He'll aim to find a God(dess), a flock of birds, whatever he needs / will work to help give the illusion of spirits in the burned lands where they're sent, accompanied by "evidence" of them being angered for this or that reason. He and Jhulsa, of course, will be fit to appease them more than anyone.
• Likewise, Jackal will attempt to overthrow Samudranta -- and if need be, any other potential candidates -- through similar means. He may plot to lure her out alone where a non-lion would force himself on her, potentially impregnating her with hybrid cubs. Or, if she is pregnant through more legitimate means, he'll try to trick the father into witnessing the birth. It all depends on RP and current circumstance, but these are some of the potential schemes. He'll tread very carefully in whatever it is he does.
• Cults. Darkness. Magic. Overlapping plots with The Bloodletters, who have already taken an interest in the abandoned swamplands.
• Despite anything else, I would like for Jackal to genuinely love Jhulsa. It might start as more a power trip paired with a superficial crush, but given the many ways they balance one another, he would fall hard for her sooner rather than later.

Entering for the Striped Fellow! Name: Siri-Umuvu Meaning: Secret Rumor Personality: Curious and impulsive, Siri seems to stick his nose constantly where it doesn't belong. He also has a bit of a stubborn streak; he may be unable to keep standing through the toughest storms but he definitely plans on getting back on his paws. Siri is also extremely flirtatious, though only to Shika; otherwise, he's only slightly smooth with the ladies~ All and all, he's outwardly polite but a constant leech for gossips and rumors, a trait his mother passed on. He enjoys making quips and jests, hoping to draw a grin or giggle. And, though he is quite serious about his rank and duties to the pride, outwardly seems careless and uncaring about his responsibilities.
History: Born and raised in Jini-msemi, Siri has been around the pride for quite a while... and knows quite a lot. His mother claimed he was born with a larger nose than all the other cubs, the claim usually stated after he stuck it far into something he had no business sticking it into. His mother was a rather proud gossiper, with the apple not falling too far from the tree. Henceforth, everything she said, Siri absorbed. At a young age, he remembers a nearby family taking in cubs. Always the curious one, he'd stay his distance and observe. 'The cubs' parents,' his mother whispered to a close friend in audible distance from Siri,n '... an unfortunate thing.' Siri was never able to figure out just what had happened... but his curiosity was spurred.
His gaze usually watched the angriest of the siblings, a white female with black front paws, tail fluff, and tuft. Many times, did he think about playing with the female, but his mother advised otherwise. He had attempted an interaction once with her. It hadn't quite ended well. His mother found out her name easily enough; Hal-shikasta.
Despite his rejection for play and friendship, Siri continued to watch, ducking out of sight whenever he thought he could be seen. It wasn't too long later, however, that she simply... vanished. Concerned and somewhat depressed, he continued to watch for her, becoming obsessed with the idea that maybe, maybe, he'll sight her again. Soon, though, he began to lose hope of sighting her once more and, instead, focused on his life goal; to become a guardian and protect the royal family and the pride.
Leaving for a brief period to be trained by a distant relative, he returned only to find out from his mother that there had been a wildfire. And that Hal-shikasta had returned and had gotten into conflict with a noble. Excited on her return and curious as to just why she would attack a noble, he seeks her out~ Enter roleplay and plottage~ Anything extra to add, ideas, etc.: -She doesn't necessarily need to remember him/know him from their young years. He just remembers her, vividly.
-I'll apply for guardian asap for him. Some plot ideas! -He uses the fact that she's on the brink of being exiled to his advantage~ Claims he needs to stick around and make sure she doesn't do anything rash.
-Something involving the fact that she loathes the royal line and he protects it, maybe?
-Maybe some more drama involving the Narindima'moyo, Piliroho, Shika, and Siri? eue To where they migghhtt be a bit friendly with him?
-His confession of always watching her~ Oh la la, what a creep.
-Annoys her to the point of attacking him? And he somehow hangs behaving over her head?
-insert more conflict, drama, and love here. uwu

Entering for the Striped Fellow! Name: Amenemsou Meaning: the self-existing Sun Personality: Amen is self reliant, persistent, and yet codependent at the same time, meaning while he can manage the world on his own, he is better off with someone to lean on. His singular favorite past time is to make others laugh, but not just anyone, he gets particular pleasure out of making those whom are the least likely to respond to him. And as he doesn't thrive off of acceptance, he has no problem persisting until he gets what he wants. His downfall could easily be his devotion, as he has problems realizing when something is a lost cause. Often times this allows the other party to forget their grudge with the world and him time to slip right past their walls. This can take time, and therefore patience (which unfortunately can be in rather short stock), but it usually pays off. Amen tends to have a problem letting go of grudges, if he's not treated well, he will not let you forget it. But if he's treated well, he will never leave your side and never forsake you. History: Born a rouge, Amenemsou was mistreated by his parents, whom had no sense of loyalty whatsoever. They were straight up cruel to him. They would laugh at him when he was trying to be serious, and ridicule him for his jokes. It really instilled a serious sense of insecurity so deep he feels that he must work for affection or any type of relationship to work. This is the theory he has developed: “If she's amazing, she won't be easy. If she's easy, she won't be amazing. If she's worth it, you wont give up. If you give up, you're not worthy. ... Truth is, everybody is going to hurt you; you just gotta find the ones worth suffering for.”
His wandering around the rogue lands brought him a respect for prides. This respect brought him to Jini-msemi and more over to Hal-shikasta. Never before had he found a female in such need of what only he can bring to her. A single smile on her face is worth a thousand life times of struggle, shaking off insults, and bad moods. He truly is a brave fool, foolish for her love. Anything extra to add, ideas, etc.: This character reflects me in the most disturbing ways. He would be a character I could devote much time and soul into. Ideas: + Rejection at first: I would imagine at first she would be immune to his charm, too bitter for her own good, but Amen would never give up. Eventually, he would manage one smile and that would cement his loyalty, giving him the reassurance that every day would be worth the strife for an occasional smile. + The first fight: All couples have disagreements every now and then, and while he would bite his tongue to please his mate even to the point of compromising his morals, there are some things even he could not stand for. All she needs to do to set him off, to discover that part of him he would never compromise and demands respect, is call him predictable and cowardice. While he would gladly sacrifice his life for her, he will not let her disrespect him in this way. Perhaps by the end of it, she will have a new found respect for him, as he proves he's more than just a handsome not-totally-goofy- jester. + Open mouth, insert paw: Fermented fruit is too sweet of a temptation at the end of a particularly long day. When he comes back to their cave, he decides he slips up and talks fondly of another female. I leave her reaction to you, it would prove to be interesting, I believe.
Entering for the Cub! Name: Kalumtum Meaning: Young lamb Personality: Naive in nature, Kalum believes in the goodness in even the most evil of creatures. Except for the Mizimu' Tungika, as her pelt is the ideal for sacrificing, she would fear them with great prejudice. But all other creatures, in her beliefs, are born generally 'good' and all possess the ability of kindness if it is appealed to correctly. Most of the time she can be found with a smile on her face and great respect for life in her heart. As she grows she will have high political aspirations and will be forced to learn when she is being deceived, but it will never be her strong suit. She will learn how to appeal to the good nature and gain favor from those in positions above her (without sucking up). Anything extra to add, ideas, etc.: She will choose to follow her mother to the swamps, once she returns from her pilgrimage.
+ A lesson difficult to swallow: In her adolescence, or even prior, Kalum will be deceived by someone she has come to trust, resulting in a near death experience. The particulars of this would be worked out with whomever this goes down with. Not everyone is good natured, she will learn the hard way.
+Pilgrimage woes: While on her pilgrimage, Kalum must kill something for the first time. Instincts will take hold and she will not come back to her self until her belly is full. Realizing what she had just done, she will run to the nearest water source and cry until the blood is all washed out. But she will extract a lesson from this and never cry over a food-kill again.
+ Someone to count on: Kalum will need a mate that is experienced enough to protect her from those that mean to use her, and wise enough to know when to expose another's true nature to her and when to council her in a different direction without giving her the true reason. A white lie may still be a lie, but he must be able to tell her only what she needs to know when the circumstance calls for it. But first he must earn her trust along with her love. It would be perfect if he affectionately called her, "little lamb".
+ White lie divulged: Another force tries to pit her against her mate by telling her the truth in a situation where her mate has tried to protect her from the truth for his or her own gain. They would separate for a small period of time, but love will always win the race in the long run.

Zohwhee Entering for the Cub! Anything extra to add, ideas, etc.:I wanted her to be a little dark without actually being a horrible/mean character. Theeeese, oh yes please. 4laugh Winners! (Work week is starting, and it's going to be a crazy one, so I won't be around much for the next several days. PMs will be the best way to get in touch with me if you want to chat/make plots, but I'll still probably be a bit slow.) Thank you for all the wonderful entries. emotion_bigheart
