It was strange for Nav to think about joining another pride - he was getting on in years, though by no means 'old' just yet, he was just starting to reach his prime! Or past his prime, depends on who you asked. When the Ukuucha'wafalme disbanded, in a catastrophe of movements, Fura and Nav had been left on their own in the rogue lands.

He adored his mate - though she pushed his buttons and challenged him, she did so with the greatest power; love. He realised now, having spent so long in the rogue lands trying to find a female of his own, that he could not survive as a rogue. He could not protect his mate. They needed a pride.

Hearing of the pride of warriors, of reavers, he had decided - rather quickly - that it was their destination.

Where else was safer than among those who others feared? He and Fura would be safe within the pride and therefore, Fura would have the protection of the entire pride, not just this old bundle of fluff to look after her. He only wanted her safe now.

He cleared his throat. "I seek a challenge to enter your ranks!" he called out, knowing that they had a specific name for the challenge but he was unable to remember it at that point.

Diya'ali had settled in well amongst the ranks. He had gained his rank, earned it like all of the other Reavers. He had gone on a viking, and though he had yet to claim a thrall, it was only a matter of time now. He would make his stamp on the pride, perhaps even rise to Captain... he smirked to himself, moving towards the area where the challenges took place.

He loved challenges. He could keep the riff-raff out of the pride. What better way to benefit the pride he had joined then making sure that no one unworthy of the ranks snuck their way in.

He heard the call and grinned. Perfect! Another challenger.

It was only once he had started towards the stranger that something nudged the back of his mind...that voice...it sounded familiar...

His eyes went wide and his heart nearly stopped in his chest.

"Dad??"

Out of all of the responses to his cry that he had imagined in the back of his mind, the familiar voice calling out to him paternally was not amongst his predicted responses. He startled and turned his gaze towards the sound. “Diya?” He said, unable to contain his shock. His son…his wayward son who had left on his adolescent quest and simply hadn’t returned…was here? Amongst fighters?
Diya…” He didn’t even know what to say. What did you say to your son after months and your entire pride disbanding?
Man he wished he hadn’t hid his challenge from Fura now. She would know what to say.

What are you doing here?” Diya demanded, eyes still wide and paws fixed to the gorund where he stood. He couldn’t have aimed a blow if his life depended on it – not that it mattered, because his father wouldn’t attack him. Nav’hian might have been raised by a pride that was strict and didn’t exactly ‘hate’ corporal punishment, but Diya knew that his father would never raise a paw to him, or any of his cubs.

“The Ukuucha…” Nav begun explaining but soon lost his words. “Well, it’s gone.” How else did you explain everything that happened? It was too long a story, and Diya had missed all of it.

Well that was not what he had been expecting…though he wasn’t sure what he had been expecting. He knew his father would never desert the pride – not when Aali was in charge, not when all their family history was in the pride…not unless something terrible had happened. “Is everyone ok?” He didn’t really care about the rest of the pride – he knew that some of the Ukuucha members had made it to this pride before, but he had just assumed they had left of their own free will.

Our family is fine,” Nav said, knowing what Diya actually cared about. His siblings were fine, as was Fura. They were all scattered now, but it was still…they were still ok. Sort of.

So you decided to join this pride?” Diya couldn’t help but ask, unbelieving. “Haven’t you heard the stories? You have to fight. You can’t just waltz in and beg asylum here.” The tone of his voice said that he doubted that his father would be able to fight, let alone win.

Nav bristled slightly. “I am aware, Diya. I made my choice,” he snapped. “Your mother needs somewhere safe. What is safer than a pride of warriors?

Nothing,” Diya admitted, “but first you have to get in.”

Nav narrowed his gaze. “Then am I not allowed a fight, or have you cast me aside that easily?” A rock sat in the pit of his stomach, a feeling overcoming him as he realised he would have to fight his own son. Was this really what he would do for his mate? Fura might not forgive him if she found out.

Diya looked amused. “Dad, I am not going to fight you.”

Why not?” Nav demanded, offended. He was a bit scruffier than he had been in the pride. He wasn’t good at coping with the rogue lands.

You’re an old man!” Diya laughed. “I’ll break your hip or something.”

Nav narrowed his eyes at Diya, annoyance visible. “Son, I protected you, and your mother and your siblings. I am not weak.”

”Oh really?” Diya asked, with a raised brow. He moved quickly, shooting forward and with a firm shove (not even a hit), Nav was unbalanced and he hit the ground with a solid thud. He narrowly missed smacking his head on a rock, but the fall alone disorientated him. Nav took a moment, staring up at his son.

You didn’t even warn me!” Nav growled in anger.

Dad, this is a pride of warriors. They aren’t going to warn you.” Diya was frustrated, how come his father didn’t understand? He stared down at the older lion laying prone on the ground. He was going to get eaten alive in this pride…but Nav was stubborn, there was no changing his mind now.

Diya groaned. Damn it, he was going to have to protect them. He stepped back from his father; defeated in one blow. “You don’t have to fight,” Diya grumbled. “I recognise you as Kin. The Iron in my blood runs in yours. The pride will accept you as their own; without a fight.” He looked uncomfortable talking about it. God, was he essentially allowing his weak father into the pride? Great. Now he was going to have to babysit him. “I’ll do the same for Mum.” Well, at least he’d get to see his mum again. He loved both of his parents, but man his father frustrated him.

Nav looked surprised, and slowly rose to his paws. “…Thank you son.” He might have been able to scrape through a battle, and he was sure that Fura would have been able to as well, but it was a weight of his shoulders to know that they would not have to fight their way in. “Did you have to knock me down then?” Nav grumbled.

Diya rolled his eyes, but grew serious. “Dad, I’m serious. You have to be careful here. You can’t fight and you’re in a pride of fighters. Just…tread lightly. Mum too.”

Nav sighed and bumped shoulders. “We’ll be fine, son.”

Diya groaned. Why did that sound like famous last words?
