PRISON BREAK

gaia_crown [ LOCATION ]

    Coiba Prison, Panama

gaia_crown [ SETTING ]

"The prison is dank and decrepit, as anyone might expect from an abandoned place. There appears to be no souls in sight. That is, save for strange little mobile creatures of metal with glowing blue runes on its body. These seem impervious to your attacks. Best to avoid them for now."

gaia_crown [ MISSION ]

There's a small outpost stationed at an abandoned prison on the island of Coiba. Only one hunter resides within, but we have found that this outpost is heavily guarded by their runic technology. We believe this hunter is there to develop their technology further to eventually bring back to their home base. This cannot be allowed. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to infiltrate the outpost and slay this hunter. Destroy any prototypes you find as well.

gaia_crown [ MECHANICS ]

Roll 1d100 to navigate the prison. Before the boss phase, player hunters may come around to engage your horsemen. This base supposedly only has one deep within, but it isn't impossible that one or two may come by to check on his progress and to make sure everything is fine.

1 - 20 : You find nothing but empty cells.
21 - 40 : There appears to be a pile of scrap metal here. But no hunter to be found.
41 - 60 : A light shines upon you. As you look towards the source, you see a small red light before you're suddenly assaulted by a barrage of some sort of projectile. -5hp
61 - 80 : One of the little metal creatures finds you. It makes some sort of strange noise and you soon find more of them appearing at your location. They attack! You better get away quick. - 5hp
81 - 100 : BOSS ENCOUNTER - Tucked away deep within the prison is the lone hunter, working diligently with some metal and wires. He doesn't seem to notice you... yet.

Quote:
Roll 1d20:

1 - 15 : The hunter turns around, jumping at the sight of you. He presses a button and several turrets come up to help defend him.
    • Boss HP: 60
    • Auto damage: 5

16 - 20 : You manage to sneak up on him and slay him before he can retaliate.

gaia_crown [ BONUS MECHANICS ]

Please apply these bonuses based on your clan:

    • Famine: +10hp to max amount
    • War: +3 damage
    • Death: +2 to your roll at the 'sneaking up on the boss'
    • Conquest: For both the searching and battle phases, you only take 3 damage instead of 5.

gaia_crown [ REWARDS ]

+1 additional rp point for completion

attempt 1

Before he went out of his way to seek out his hooded mentor again, Mmur thought it would be beneficial to engage in some good old fashioned murder. He might not have approved of his people's plans for normal cattle, but the white-coated humans were always in need of culling.

It wasn't difficult to obtain a mission he approved of, even in the current climate, and soon Mmur was stepping through a shimmering portal and into a chilly, moldy prison. Not the most appealing place to be deployed, but these sorts of assignments weren't primarily meant to be fun. He moved carefully, keeping an eye out for runic tech he could destroy along the way. What he found instead was the hunter.

He hadn't made a sound, Mmur knew he hadn't, but the human spun in his seat anyway, a flash of fear in his large, damp eyes. The horseman smiled. The child really did look like cattle.

The hunter hesitated, hand shaking above a bright red button on the console to his left. Mmur never could understand why humans insisted on making their emergency buttons so painfully obvious. He glanced between the human's face and the button, waving a hand as if to say 'do your worst.'

Admittedly, he hadn't expected the turrets.

Mmur summoned his whip at the sight of them, darting beyond the safety of the door frame so soon after that he nearly dropped it. The turrets followed him with exacting precision, a spray of bullets whistling in his wake.

"Take that, horseman scum!"

Really? Just for that, Mmur flicked his weapon back into the room, attempting to send a concussive blast of power at the hunter. He thought he might have heard one of the turrets beep in distress, but if he had hit the human, he made no sound.

He was going to have to go in, he supposed. This space really wasn't conducive to proper ranged combat, not to mention Mmur was out of practice. Well, it was better to advance on his own terms than defend until the human was ready to attack. With an echoing screech, Mmur ran back into the room, ignoring the bullets that peppered him as he pulled FEAR into his whip. He swung. He missed.

He swung again, certain that his proximity guaranteed that he couldn't miss, but he did anyway. What in the blasted universe was going on here? The hunter looked fairly amazed as well, taking advantage of Mmur's poor luck by slapping a second large red button on his console, summoning another gaggle of turrets.

They seemed to hurt less than last time. Or maybe he was just losing feeling in his skin.

Before he ran to safety, Mmur lashed out at the man and his turrets, finally getting a shot in. His whip flicked the hunter right on the shell of his ear.

"Ow, stop!"

Was this guy new? Between the urging to stop and the whole 'horseman scum' thing, Mmur was beginning to think so.

"No," Mmur replied, lashing his whip again. This time the weapon hit the human with a crack across the cheek, drawing a thin line of blood. "You are a terrible fighter with your buttons and your 'ow, stop's. You should be ashamed." He positively loomed for a moment, undeservedly proud that he was finally fighting like a soldier.

Then he remembered he was in the middle of a fight and scrambled back around the corner.

He had just made it out of range when the turrets started spitting bullets once more. He listened to them plink against the metal door frame, growing antsier by the second but unwilling to walk back into the fray. Maybe if he could find something to protect himself with...

It wasn't much, but there was a rather dilapidated locker in the next room, its unhinged door the perfect size and weight for a shield. Mmur picked it up, settled it in front of him, and inched forward, lifting and dropping it in a rhythmic tattoo. Had there been more skinny famine horsemen slamming locker doors around the whole thing might have been more intimidating, but as it was, there was only one. Plus, he was facing a bunch of turrets, none of whom were frightened of a little noise.

The hunter, however, seemed annoyed by the ruckus, at the very least. He finally pulled out a weapon—something bladed—and sliced at Mmur's knuckles, causing him to drop one side of the door. He hissed in surprise, peeking around his shield and flicking his whip at the man's face. The human squealed and struck again.

Okay. Even Mmur, lover of ridiculousness, could admit that this was moving past ridiculousness and into the realm of the waste of time. He flung his locker door at the human with little warning at all, opening himself up to an instantaneous barrage of bullets.

He struck with a fury he hadn't experienced since Hadan, silent save for the hiss of his whip. Or was that coming from him?

Soon overwhelmed by turret fire, Mmur dissipated without ever actually figuring it out.

attempt 2

He didn't relish getting riddled with turret fire again so soon, but Mmur was on a mission, determined to see this particular outpost's hunter neutralized so that he himself could feel comfortable rising to his place as an alchemist. Never mind that he hadn't actually done anything remarkable as a scavenger, nor had he any grand plans for what he would accomplish as a master of potions.

As he entered the prison for the second time, he tried to come up with something to convince himself he was ready to move on, a laundry list of past accomplishments and future plans that would appease Na'ima, even Salbei. Mmur was distracted, to say the least. He didn't notice the tiny metal spy until he was face-to-blinking-blue-LED with it, and by then it was too late.

Mmur punched the construct in what passed for its face and moved to escape, but its friends and colleagues were already stationed in the halls. In order to keep his stealth invasion going, the horseman remained quiet, and in an uncharacteristic move, he chose to run rather than fight.

He moved much faster than the robots, and soon he broke out into the open, ducking quickly down a dim hall before he could be pursued. The room at the end of the path looked a lot like it had once been the hunters' main hub here, but now it was just a damp mass of metal scraps and the remnants of a moldy desk chair. With nowhere else to go, Mmur turned back.
