[NPC] Gaia Staff Hey Gaians, We want to take a moment to address the issue of zOMG! being shut down, and to give more details about why we are unable to bring zOMG! back. We understand that people have been upset by this news, particularly those Gaians who have been loyal zOMG! players. We'd to take a moment to address several of the major concerns and comments about zOMG! closing that we've seen expressed in the forums: a) With regards to our previous announcements, in which we said "don't worry: zOMG! will be up and running as soon as it's patched up!", we want you to know that when we made these statements, we did honestly believe we would be able to bring the game back after fixes were made. It was never our intent to NOT bring the game back. The decision to leave zOMG! down was only made after learning about serious problems with the game's code. We do want to apologize to you, however, for the way we worded our messages. We should not have said the game was definitely coming back even if this is what we believed when we made those statements. It was never our intent to be misleading about the state of zOMG!, and we understand why this is upsetting for you. We are sorry, truly, for any frustration this has caused. B) Regarding the reason zOMG! cannot be brought back, there has been a lot of speculation on the reason for our decision. Frankly, the truth of the matter is that during an investigation into issues with zOMG!, it was discovered that zOMG! had a serious flaw in the code. Basically, there was a security exploit in the game that, had it been abused (and thankfully it wasn't!), would have allowed people not only access to zOMG!, but to our site's servers and ultimately, to all your accounts. Knowing this was the case, we couldn't, in good faith, continue to allow zOMG! to remain up and running. We even had one of the fabulous former zOMG! devs look into the issue to see how long it might take to fix this exploit, but a concrete estimate was impossible to make given the sheer volume of code. Ultimately, we decided to leave zOMG! shut down because the security of your accounts and our servers is priority. C) Finally, we would like to say that closing zOMG! had nothing to do with money, or whether or not zOMG! was making a profit. Frankly, zOMG! hasn't made an overall profit for a while now. We've left zOMG! up and running because we love zOMG!, and more importantly, because we know that YOU love zOMG!. Closing zOMG! was actually a very difficult and sad decision for us, especially for those staff members who saw the game from its inception, to launch, and beyond. At the end of the day, however, the safety concerns over the exploit had to prevail. We hope this provides you with more details on why the decision to shut down zOMG! was made. Again, thank you to all the players who have supported zOMG! over the years - we hope that you'll carry forward fond memories of the friendships you made with other players in game. This was posted by the Gaian Staff themselves. I believe trying to run a petition to bring something back that they've already closed down infinitely is something wasteful. Not to say your actions are not futile, but they are not going to work. Your energy and spirit will no bring about zOMG again. Why I say this is because they decided to better protect our accounts from those who want to take them. I would suggest that we rally our efforts elsewhere unless you, the users want to be the ones funding this Financially (Money ladies and gentleman, will be what saves this) because there is no way for them to fund it on their own. It was already said before it could not be done due to limitations and walls of coding they did not want to further break to fix one simple security error. admin We could not give a specific repair completion date because the extent of what systems the repairs would make to the game were unknown. Sadly, the changes needed were extensive and due to both hardware and Engineering limitations we had to make the tough call not to proceed With that being said, there is no way for them to bring it back unless there are people wanting to back this financially OR they manage to find and handpick a group of Gaian's that can work through the code on a volunteer basis to fix this. Otherwise, there is no man power Gaia has to put towards this. It was not a financial thing as they stated, but in the end it could take a lot of money and time to fix this. Please Regard.

How can you be so sure? It would be worth trying to make a big enough uproar to see what they would do about it. I think most people would even be happy if they were making a similar game to zOMG! The fact is that they didn't give too much effort into trying to save it. They could have easily created a kickstarter/donation pool to fund more engineers and programmers to work on the game. People would donate to that! I realize that it would have costed close to $100k, and they have very few programmers as it is, but there are things that could have been done. You could also take volunteer Gaian programmers and coders to work on something like that. People would do that!
I'm just saying, if they were really sorry, they would have done everything in their power to save it first.
I'd also like to point out that I never played that game. Maybe once, and never got passed the tutorial. I'm fighting for it because others are so sad to see it leave, and are leaving Gaia. I want to see my community be happy. I created a petition for a game I don't even play. I just love my community.

To go along with what you said, Gaia has tons of money from all the GC sales that's been happening. They must be using it for something, so why not for zOMG? I loved zOMG, it was pretty much my entire life in a nutshell. I actually made 4 bil from that game, from playing it for hours.

"Just a reminder, your actions aren't going to work"
Just a reminder, actions DO work, it's just wether or not they want to listen to us. And last I checked the Gaia staff doesn't listen to us.
As for the reason why they shut it down, I call BS. Why? Because how long was zOMG up for? And HOW LONG did it take to actually FIND the problem? They said they had "We even had one of the fabulous former zOMG! devs look into the issue"
Even still, there's a flaw. If the developer couldn't even see it back then, it didn't exist back then. So, either it never existed, and they're lying to save their behinds.. Or they put that issue in there somewhere and waited to see if someone could find it.
Soooo... Overall, actions actually DO SOMETHING. So don't be a debby downers and say they wont, cause for one, You have no idea if they will or not.

I'm sorry to say is I agree with the OT. Though yes actions CAN work but not in this case. They said money isn't the issue. It's just too much time to have to put into the game. And saying that if they really cared they would isn't fair. That's like telling your lover if they loved you they'd have sex with you when they weren't ready. People just don't want to accept that zOMG is gone. Maybe they will bring a similar game back someday but it hasn't been given enough time it takes a long time to make a game or make something similar. Would you prefer your accounts get hacked? The servers be taken over and destroyed? I'm glad they took it down and did what they had to do. And honestly, zOMG was going down hill anyway with the lag and no events anymore. It will be missed. zOMG was what helped me and my boyfriend connect event more. But let's be thankful we had it while we did.

It doesn't bring them any profit as it is they only kept it for us to ******** with. They have more profitable things to do for the site. No one wants to accept it's gone but it is. If they put all that time an effort to work on that huge amount of code they'll lose money and it wouldn't help the site.
