      "Stand strong." - Shan Furen

      December 20th, 2014 to January 22nd, 2015

These two characters will be immensely important in starting the upcoming meta.

Both of them have the chance to die in the upcoming meta and they also are required to do two RPs. One together, and one with a few other characters. Both should be completed by no later than the end of March 2015.
Depending on how the meta progresses, they may die. Please be aware of that. If they do die, I can provide a replacement SoA. The replacement must stay a member of the Mlima Tuokoa.

The leopard must remain a member of the Mlima Tuokoa unless given permission to leave.
The lion must stay involved in the meta until its completion.
      Neither of their edits pass.

You may try for both, but you may only win one of them.
You may enter regardless if you have a member in the colony or not.
If you win one of them, you will be PM'd information pertaining to their character. Some of it is free to openly RP or share, some it should not be shared.

"Blessed are my children." - Shan Furen

This leopard will be a noble in the Mlima Tuokoa.

He is a widower, having lost his mate during the avalanche. They had no children together, but he does have a younger sister who will make an appearance in the metaplot. Both of their parents are deceased and they have no other relatives in the colony. Both parents were granted the rank of noble by King Heinrich for bringing a large amount of furs to spread among the members of the Mlima Tuokoa and sharing their knowledge of the roguelands.

He had one friend outside of his family growing up, a cheetah, who perished in the avalanche as well. The cheetah, whose name is up to the winner, was a rogue cub who had joined searching for a better life after her mother died close to the border.

While he is a noble, he has a habit of venturing outside of the mountain and into the plains. Normally it is uneventful, but one day it all changed...

"Claws out, stand ready. Do not falter. Face your fear." - Shan Furen

This lion will be a member of the Msitu'nyeusi.

Born the oldest out of three cubs. She is the only daughter of the warlord of the Msitu'nyeusi, the pride the currently occupies the Mlima Tuokoa's forest homeland. The trees are her friends and the forest has always been kind to her. Despite what the leopards yell at her, this forest has been her pride's home for as long as she can remember and there is no reason for her to leave it!

Pridal life has been hard though. The Mlima Tuokoa hunt the same lands as the Msitu'nyeusi and some even shout horrible words at anyone they come across. Everyone in the pride is forbidden to act on their anger as their is a tentative peace between the two prides forged by this lioness' father and king Heinrich. That doesn't mean the lions can't scare the others though...

Let me live!

Name: Zosimus
Meaning: viable, likely to survive (because I like irony)
Personality: Zosimus is a very quiet fellow, not wanting to step on anyone's toes or make any waves. He has a very comfortable life and wants to keep it that way, thank you very much. He's faced hardships, yes, and has had his fair share of heartbreak, but he keeps pushing through even if he's a bit of a loner. He prefers his own company to that of others in his pride and is glad for his status so he's not required to do things constantly. He'd much rather be alone with his thoughts to brood and live in the happy moments of his life.
Do you understand that he can die?: Yes
Do you want a replacement character if he does?: Yes please! I like the sound of this pride =D
Do you understand he is temporarily RP-required?: Yes

You were just informed about your cheetah friend or wife's death. Which one is up to you. How does he react?
Zosimus retreated to his den after receiving yet even more bad news, his ears and tail both drooped and head lowered. The avalanche had been devastating to the whole pride, but it felt as though he had taken the hardest hit of all with this new development. He knew there were others that had lost loved ones in the terrible rush of snow, and he did feel for them, but his own pain was so great it was hard to keep a brave face for the others.

Zosimus knew his mate had perished. He had known for about two days now. She had been one of the first to be found, just short of safety in a den in the mountainside, literally just steps away from going in. There had been a large rock that she had hid behind which might have saved her had the avalanche not been so massive. Instead it had buried her on the spot, and she had suffocated before she had been able to crawl out. Now there was news of his dear friend, whom he had hoped had escaped and was just taking her time in getting back to the pride. No...she had been found not far from his mate, although buried much deeper, which suggested she had been far higher up the mountain and had tumbled all the way down with the snow and debris.

There was no warmth in his heart as he settled down in his much too large den. He could still feel his mate pressed up against him and hear his friend's voice ringing in the stillness of the air around him, as if they were both still here. He curled up tighter on himself and squeezed his eyes shut, his tears gone from the sorrow he had experienced already. there was nothing left to give for his friend except a deep, aching pain in his chest. Two things that were so dear to him had been ripped from his paws in an instant.

He wasn't sure how long he laid there, but by the time he lifted his head the sun was nearly gone and it was snowing. The falling flakes used to make him smile, but now he stared out of his den at them with a dead expression, his eyes glazed over, his whiskers quivering. Everything looked grey and cold and dead and hopeless.

Getting up, Zosimus moved to the back of the den to press up against the cold wall, hoping it might chase away the phantom feeling of a warm body beside him. He lifted his paws as well, pinning his ears down to his skull to try to chase away the cheery laughter his cheetah friend always had to share. Finally the giggles drifted away and the warm, soft body replaced with hard, cold rock. They were gone. There was nothing he could do about it but to accept it and move on.

The problem was, he wasn't sure he was ready to do that.

I stand above them all!

Name: Nike
Meaning: Victory
Personality: Having grown up the only girl in her litter, Nike was forced to stay strong so she could control her two brothers with ease. As the oldest, she was also looked to to be the responsible one, the one that would dish out punishment if her parents weren't around to do so, but also accept responsibility if the rest of her siblings got out of hand. The manner in which she grew up turned her into a tough, reliable fighter for her pride. She wanted nothing more than to prove to her parents that she was just as tough as any male warrior and not only met, but surpassed that of the other lions her age. She's a bit more brawn than brain if you had to measure, although she's rich in both. Still, her first instinct is to fight rather than to sit and talk something through. Nike has a temper as short as her ragged ear, so it's not hard to get her riled up and ready to go.

I stand above them all!

Name: Khshayarsha (Nickname : Shaya)
Meaning: Variant spelling of Persian Xsayarsa, meaning "great warrior" or "lion-king." In the bible, this is the name of the king of Persia. His Hebrew name is Achashverosh. His Greek name is Xerxes.
Personality: Expecting a male heir, her father had already named her when she was born, and with two brothers her gender wasn’t immediately noticed. By the time all three had fully come into the world, the name had stuck fast in the mind of her father.
Shaya grew up just like her two brothers, rambunctious and rowdy, to the extent where those who first met the three cubs thought she was male also. This masculine misdirection continued into adulthood, not helped by her father’s natural proclivity to treat her just as he did his sons, and indeed Khshayarsha would have protested had he done any different. As a result she is as tough and as expert a fighter as her brothers. Being the eldest and the heir, she is well aware of her responsibilities, but with her confident and outgoing nature and a finely honed curiosity about everything, she gets into plenty of trouble and is constantly testing the boundaries the pride and her father place upon her. Though she is entirely loyal to both.
Her view of their neighbours is a rather unflattering one. As far as she is concerned the forest belongs to her pride, and the leopards constant harassment is almost unbearable. Why should she stand meekly by while the uncouth felines hurl insults and expletives? The inability to teach the leopards some respect, or at the very least to defend herself against their poison tongues, is a burr under her skin that chafes constantly and gives her a quick temper.
Do you understand that she can die?: Yes
Do you want a replacement character if she does?: Yes please <3
Do you understand she is temporarily RP-required?: Yep!

Let me live!

Name: Taeru
Meaning: To endure (Japanese)
Personality: Taeru has always been a reserved feline, but it wasn't until he became aware of true heartbreak that he became unnaturally solitary. His happiness came from his mate and best friend's company, for their bold and pleasant natures brought him out of his shell, but after the avalanche, his happy nature retreated deep within himself, hidden in darkness and unlike to show itself again. He has no interest in forming bonds with other felines, and wants only to be left to himself. To prove this to the group he remains with, he often travels into the plains, distancing himself as much as possible from the areas that his loved ones cherished so much. It seems as though only survival instincts and pain remain in this unfortunate leopard.
Do you understand that he can die?: Yes
Do you want a replacement character if he does?: Yes, please! yum_puddi
Do you understand he is temporarily RP-required?: Yes.

You were just informed about your cheetah friend or wife's death. Which one is up to you. How does he react?
It was quite unusual that others of the colony would approach him for conversation. Normally messages would be passed through him either through his mate, Uzuri, or Maisha, his cheetah companion. While Maisha had lived their only a short while, the rogue was so full of life that she was accepted into the leopard colony. Oh, it had been such a grand day for the two friends when she was granted that permission, but now the cheetah was no where to be found.

A distant memory said that she had gone hunting with Uzuri that morning, or something similar. He must've been half-asleep when she told him before she left. He shook it away for the moment, given that there was more pressing matters for him to deal with. Like the leopard who was looking at him in a strange manner, and stranger than how others looked at him normally. He took a few steps forward, and then looked at the other leopard expectantly.

He wasn't going to have to talk to another if he didn't have to, especially since he didn't remember this cat's name, despite living in the same colony as him.

There had been an avalanche, it seemed, one near the hunting grounds that many of their members populated. The leopard explained how some of the other members were dragging the bodies from the site, and that he had been one of the few to go around the colony and report the causalities to those to be yet informed. The other leopard looked at him, and opened his mouth to reveal information that Taeru suddenly didn't want to hear. The leopard wobbled on his legs, and then everything was white and he could hear a ringing in his ears.

Everything blurred together when he woke, the scene around him as well as memories of recent events, and he found himself with a dusty pelt, laying in the center of a very cold, very empty den. He hadn't lost one, that horrible morning, but two. Both Uzuri and Maisha's bodies had been dragged from the rubble. He had been so shocked that he must've fainted, ridiculous as that seemed, and the other leopard must've dragged him by the scruff to his den.

With empty eyes, Taeru stared around the den in the mountain, which he and his two female companions had shared. Dust had begun to settle where Maisha had slept, and he felt incredibly alone without Uzuri constantly at his side. They had gone hunting earlier, told him of this, and yet he hadn't been able to wake up enough to go with them. Maybe, just maybe he would've been able to get them to safety. Or at the very least, he could've died with them. What was life without his mate and his best friend? He closed his eyes and let out a hoarse sigh. He felt ages older and more weary and only sleep could possibly quiet his mind. As he was drifting off again, he couldn't help wishing that he had never chosen to live in this awful mountainous environment.

I stand above them all!

Name: Uamuzi (Affectionately called Muzi, by her mother.)
Meaning: Determination (Swahili)
Personality: Passionate. Hard-Headed. Proud.
These are the words that best describe the warlord's daughter. She is a ball of fire, always striving to do her very best in the pride, so to impress her father. As the warlord of the pride, that makes him the strongest, doesn't it? It must be, because her father is well respected by many, with the only exception being those foul leopards in the mountains. Her mother tries to calm her, attempting to share reason with the eldest of her cubs. "Muzi, your father is protecting our borders by the treaty that he made with the leopards. It is not yet your place to disagree with him." Is often what her mother will say to her.
But it's growing increasingly more difficult to follow her mother's advice when there are so many irritating remarks that the leopards shower upon her any time she wants a walk through her own home. If it were up to her, she would march straight up to those silly leopards and give them a piece of her mind! With all of their manes in the way, they'd surely be blinded, giving her the advantage. Victory would be hers in no time!
Do you understand that she can die?: Yes.
Do you want a replacement character if she does?: Yes, please!
Do you understand she is temporarily RP-required?: Yes.

Let me live!

Name: Kukosa
Meaning: Missing
Personality: Self-doubting, but would never let others put him down. He hopes to be better, he wants to be better, but he sees too many obstacles to self-improvement. He likes to escape these expectations he and others have of him by slinking off into the plains.
Do you understand that he can die?: Yes.
Do you want a replacement character if he does?: Yes please, can't pass up that Quaji coloring!
Do you understand he is temporarily RP-required?: Yes.

You were just informed about your cheetah friend or wife's death. Which one is up to you. How does he react?

Was he almost... relieved? Not that he didn't love his wife. He would have traded his life for hers without hesitation. But he felt she was in a better place. He felt she was better off without him. She had been such a captivating, bright and amazing leopardess in life. He was just holding her back. Always doubtful. Always reluctant. She had been so eager to start a family and have cubs, but he made excuse after excuse not to. They were too young, what would their parents think as nobles? The season was too rough, the cubs would never survive. He had some important business as a noble that would steal him away right when she was in heat, how unfortunate, they could try when he got back. He had always wanted, desperately, to be better for her, but it seemed an insurmountable task, and his self-doubt kept him from even trying. Despite all her prodding, all her support, he couldn't be better.

The widower sighed. Now she was free of his weight, but what was there for him? He couldn't imagine finding another mate. No one could replace her or live up to her amazing legacy. Nor would anyone put up with his constant anxiety and his disappearing off into the plains. He expected the only female who would be in his life would be his sister. But he wanted to avoid her at the moment. He had to sort out all of his feelings on his own. Mourn. Determine if what he felt was relief and what that made of the relationship that they had during her life. She had always deserved better.

Let me live!

Name: Donar de Calor
Meaning: Donar de- give off; Calor-Warmth in Catalan
Personality:
Noble is something that Donar de Calor (Calor or Donar for short) strives to act like. However; it’s not because he acknowledges his parent’s hard work and perspiration in obtaining the title. Rather, it’s because he believes that Shan Furen is punishing him for whatever he’s done wrong. Which he believes stems from his personality.

Donar wants to be caring and loving to others. However; losing his parents has made him austere and cold, especially towards lions. Even if they are in need, he’ll turn his nose up at them. And is vehemently against having them in the pride, due to what Shan Furen has “done” to him in the past. He has no qualms hurting anyone if Shan Furen asked him to do so. If only because he wants to get in her “good graces” once again. Later on, he may feel a tinge of guilt, but he’d stomach it, push it aside and pretend like he didn’t just do something that he doesn’t feel is morally right. If he does think about it, he’ll try to justify it. Yes, Furen is extremely devout to Furen. Thinks that she is the most powerful being in the world. And will gladly defend her in front of others.

However; he’s also a pushover when it comes to those that are close to his heart. And therefore, easily influenced. He may act cynically around people that he doesn’t know, but around those that he does, he’s rather subdued and calm. He usually won’t utter anything too terrible, for fear of upsetting them.

He knows, and definitely fears, caring too much. But there’s nothing that he can do about it, sans berating himself after the act. He hates that he can’t change his heart.
Do you understand that he can die?: Yep!
Do you want a replacement character if he does?: Only if you want to give me one. uwu
Do you understand he is temporarily RP-required?: Yes indeed!

You were just informed about your cheetah friend or wife's death. Which one is up to you. How does he react?
Hardships weren’t unusual. He was used to them. His life had been filled with sorrows. But he could never get used to this.

His wife had passed.

Calor stared in shock, slack jawed and tearful. It just couldn’t be true. She was his life, his everything. Sure, they had said she had perished, but it had to be a cruel joke. He had already lost so much in life. He couldn’t have lost her as well. And yet the body was there, the body wasn’t moving, and no matter how much he shoved at her and prodded, she wouldn’t move.

”Don’t play like this,” he growled brokenly, desperately pressing his paws against her chest. She had played coy before. This was just a terrible joke. It had to be. He couldn’t lose her. He heard a crack beneath him and hastily stepped back. ********. Her chest still wasn’t moving. The fact that he had probably accidentally broken one of her ribs didn’t even cross his mind.

It was true. She was dead.

Letting out a roar, he did the only thing that he could think to do. He ran back towards their den. His solace, a place of comfort. However; as he paced the dank cavern, trying to calm himself down, it was more of a nightmare. There were too many memories. Her laughter, her smile, all those special memories. They had been trying for a family of their own, trying for so long. But the cubs never came. It was okay, though. They were still trying. Even if they never bore any children, she was his little slice of joy in life. His sister was a comfort as was his friend, but he had never felt as close to them. Not as much as he did to his wife.

But Shan Furen had taken his lover away. Just like she had taken his parents and friends.

”Why me?” he demanded, head bowed and pressed against the cavern wall. Why was he still being affected by her wrath. Sure, he had fought alongside lions. Helped them when they were in need on a few of his travels. Saved a few cubs in his lifetime, gave them refuge when no one else would. They were living beings. Although he was noble, he couldn’t fathom being left for dead. But Shan Furen had decided to punish him for it, killing his parents. Comrades he was starting to grow fond of also perished as he went through life. It was a surprise that his cheetah friend and his darling sister hadn’t. Was it because he had done lent fur as a cub to other lions? That he used to treat them as equals? He wasn’t sure.

But he had tried so hard to repay the goddess for his wrongdoings. He buckled down, became the noble that he was supposed to be. Treated lions with a harsh hand. He was one of the few who disagreed on letting them inside the pride. It wasn’t a smart idea. He of all people should know. Furen had punished it for him previously. Yet the others wouldn’t listen. They weren’t as knowledgeable as he was. But because his wife insisted that he have an open mind, he didn’t push, didn’t put up too much of a fuss even though his expectations were shot down.

And because he listened to her, because she went in with an open mind, he suffered the consequences. Whereas his wife got the easy way out in the Endless Forest. This had to be mostly her fault.

Yet here he was, grieving for her.

Gritting his teeth, Calor turned tail and exited their home. Well, his home. He couldn’t be there any longer. It didn’t feel right. She wasn’t there. Never would be there. His pace quickened. What he needed was a run. He wasn’t going to off himself. The thought had passed his mind, but there was an obligation to live and take care of his sister. He couldn’t trust anyone else with the task. She was the only one that he had left. His only family. She was to be protected. However; he couldn’t bring himself to see how she was faring. Right now he just needed to get away from it all.

So, he ran.

Let me live!

Birth name: Sool
Birth name meaning: Salt in Estonian
Noble name: Emerce
Noble name meaning: A version of Emrick
Personality: Sool has a sort of cut and dry attitude. He doesn’t tend to show much in the way of emotion unless he is annoyed, at which point he can suddenly erupt with aggression, sometimes going as far as lashing out. Being from a merchant family, Sool will still wander to the roguelands to trade with other merchant’s, cherry picking for the very best furs and items possible while using his given name to disguise himself from other nobles or traders.

After the loss of his mate and mistress, Sool has started becoming more agitated over simple things. He doesn’t so much as hate or resent the colony, lions or anything that might have caused the avalanche. He just has a general distrust of the home in which he lives and might even be consider a bit paranoid about keeping an eye on any warning signs of trouble.

Do you understand that he can die?: Possibly. Maybe? Yeah. Yeah I do.
Do you want a replacement character if he does?: No.
Do you understand he is temporarily RP-required?: Yes.

You were just informed about your cheetah friend or wife's death. Which one is up to you. How does he react?

Everything faded to black, Sool’s body numb and his sense dull. The messenger was still standing in front of him with a look of perplexity on his face. The noble gave no sign of emotion, nothing was written on his face nor his posture.

Something brought about his attention, though he couldn’t make out what it was. He wasn’t truly hearing, nor was he really all there. A grey eye rolled over to glance at the messenger who was now all but shouting at him. Shaking his head, as though there was water in his ears, Sool started to come back into focus, the words of the messenger finally reaching him.

“-OKAY? SIR EMERCE?!”

Swiveling his ears downward, the grey noble snarled, “ENOUGH.” Heart pounding, he gathered himself and finally made eye contact with the messenger again. Sool’s eyes had all be immediately left his company’s as soon as they started speaking earlier so he hadn’t been able to get a good look at the lion.

This one was well treated, the lion servant. Obviously he does a great job with the tasks given to him, so the messenger’s words could be trusted. His mate was dead. Lips pressed firmly into a line, he let that information process. The marriage was starting to sour, yes, but he would never have wished death upon her in order to be released from their bonding.

“Sir, your wife…” The lion was more than a little uncomfortable with the situation he was currently in. Lord Emerce was known to be a bit detached, but to all but disregard the information?

“Bury her remains at the base of the mountain.” Sool’s voice was cool and distant, giving no hint to the feelings he had locked inside. The noble was always the strong one, carrying any sorrow his sister might have felt when news of their parents’ death arrived and for each and every other tragedy they faced. He was a master of discipline and had nerves of steel.

Looking past the lion to the outside of the cavern Sool finally decided to ask, “What of Samoa?” He had grown rather attached to the cheetah, to the point of her becoming his mistress. Among the missing they had first reported and it seemed to always be the response.

The messenger looked to the floor, gritting his teeth in response to the question. He had been warned this question might come up. “I am sorry sir.” Looking back to the noble he continued, “She is still among the missing. We are trying our best.”

Trying their best… Those words sent a wave of anger rushing through him. To say such a thing to him was like smacking him in the face. Snarling, Sool swiped at the lion servant’s face, making contact with his claws. “You mean to tell me that you have been looking for her more diligently than others? I think not. Leave at once and think of the words in which you have gifted me and how absolutely insensitive they are.” Turning away, Sool slowly wandered to the back of his cavern, the scent of both his wife and mistress lingering on the furs and grass bedding. Standing in front of the bedding he felt the tugging of his heart, he had lost not one, but two important figures in his life in a matter of seconds.

Turning back to make sure the lion was gone, Sool crossed into the bedding, curled up and fell asleep. He couldn’t cry for them, he could however, dream they were still among the living.

For the Sacrifice: Zingling

For the Victor: SilverLutz

I forgot one other rule when making this contest and opening it:

I would like to request you not breed either of them for the duration of the meta. Any children could complicate matters that are already complicated enough. After the meta though, should they survive, they're free game and are then eligible to do with whatever you want. I obviously can't just force it on you after the fact, nor would I want to do that anyways. So I'm asking if you're accept that. If not, I understand, but I'll need to pick a new winner then.

Should you accept that extra term, then you two are the winners of them. c: I'll be sending PMs containing extra information pertaining to the characters as well the information for their RPs as soon as I hear back if you're okay with the extra rule.
