Lucivar had been sparring with Ronan all morning. The two lions were evenly matched, close to the same size and strength. Lucivar was perhaps slightly faster, but Ronan had the harder hit. The older reaver had certainly not held back and Lucivar was sore and bruised all over, but Ronan was sporting his own aches and pains in return. After their session the males had gone down to the shore to bathe away the sweat and what little blood had been drawn, despite fighting without claws. The blood was from older wounds that had reopened, attained during their last viking. Nothing to bother with.
Now dry from the beach’s coarse sand, Lucivar had returned to the heart of the pride, eaten a fresh killed carcass his Thrall Mwana had provided and settled down to rest. Several of his reavers were near by, doing the same as he. Resting after a fight or a meal. All of them bore fresh wounds that were starting to heal over, indicating they had all come back from a recent viking. There were new trinkets scattered about the group, and even Lucivar himself sported a new braid with a piece of bright-coloured fabric woven through it, woven by his Wife the night after their return.
The tan Captain was currently keeping an eye on a freeborn near by. Kidogo had come to his attention after the lion had been over heard talking about an errand Ragnvard had forced him to run. Ordinarily Lucivar tried not to interfere too much with the red-coated Captain who was the arch-rival of his own reaver Ronan. But Kidogo clearly had been unhappy with the event and Lucivar had decided to keep an eye on the male. If Ragnvard was taking advantage of the freeborn caste now, Lucivar would have a real cause for concern. So far though Kidogo hadn’t been contacted again and the blond-maned Captain was content to leave things as they were. At least for now.Svana was resting a short distance away, drowsy after her meal and sore from the battering she had taken in the roguelands. The lion they had attempted to capture had picked her as the easiest target and it had taken two other reavers to drag the enraged male off her. She had retaliated and shown the male the error of his ways, but now a few days later, she was really feeling the result of that fight. Still, a few days and she would be back to full strength and Lucivar had assured her they would not be heading out before then.

Käle was tired and out of sorts. The viking he had just come back from had been long and rainy and generally unsuccessful, particularly as first vikings went. However, he had made a good showing of himself, and so it hadn't been a total loss. The other reavers had been impressed with how he'd done as a new reaver, and he'd made an ally in an older reaver, Erryk, who was kind of an a**, but also kind of funny.
Anyway, he was looking for his sister, because he'd promised he would tell her how his first viking went and he intended to keep his promise. A few questions had seen him heading to the beach where apparently her captain's whole band was relaxing and recuperating. Members of the band he had gone out with did not do that hanging together thing, though he might perhaps seek Erryk out sometime. He thought he might be able to make a friend of the striped reaver.
"Svana!" he exclaimed when he spotted her fiery red tail tuft standing out like a flag against the sand. "Finally."

The sudden call that drifted across the wind caused the Captain to flick an ear, heavy head lifting in lazy curiosity. However, the voice wasn't upset or panicked and Lucivar was not the kind of Captain who had to monitor his reavers constantly. They gathered near by purely because they wished too and he had no problem with that. Recognising the call as the name of his newest member, Lucivar let his head flop back again, tail curling as he resettled. If they needed him, they knew where he was.Hearing her brother's call the crimson-coated female sat up, head turning to locate his voice. "Käle!" Pulling herself to her paws she shook the sand from her coat before making a bee-line for her sibling, eerie silver eyes widening at the sight of him so worked up. Something big must have happened! He looked caught between determined and excited.
Trotting the last few steps she grinned broadly, headbutting his shoulder in greeting before peering at his face. "What is it?!" Now that he had come she was dying to know what had caused this. Though she had a suspicion and was metaphorically crossing her paws for it to be the reason.

Käle snorted with amusement at his sister's reaction to his appearance. He hadn't made that much of a fuss upon arrival. At least, he hadn't thought so.
"Well, I'm back. Obviously," he began. "And so are you. Also obviously. Which means we're supposed to be catching up on our respective glories as reavers, remember?"
Not that he really had a lot of glories to catch his sister up on, but he could tell her about the highlights of the viking, when he'd done things that impressed the rest of his band or said things that amused them.
He might also have complained about some of the things that happened, as far as their captain's competency, but looking over his shoulder and observing that Svana's captain was regarding him and his sister, he wasn't sure that was appropriate. He didn't think that highly of the lion he'd followed into the rogue lands, but it seemed wrong to speak ill of him in another captain's presence.

Grinning broadly enough to show fang she looked him over. "AH! I hadn't realised you had come in already!” Pausing she followed her brother’s gaze to her Captain and smirked. “Come on..” Turning she led the way a short distance down the beach away from the other reavers sleeping off their fermented fruit.
Stopping she turned back, fanged grin wide and expectant. “So?! Tell me everything!” She clearly wasn’t going to let her brother off the hook until she knew how his very first viking had gone. Her own hadn’t been entirely successful. They had failed to catch a new thrall and Svana had been injured. But she was far more interested in her brother’s news than in giving out her own.

"It wasn't a long viking," Käle explained with a small shrug. "Lots of rain and a captain with only one plan."
And when things hadn't gone exactly according to his very rigid plan, the captain had decided to count the whole viking as a loss and return. Käle was not the only reaver in the band who had been infuriated at the lion's decision, but he'd already earned himself several new scrapes and cuts for questioning things too loudly, or in the wrong company, and by the time the captain said they were coming back, he hadn't been in the mood to keep challenging people.
He followed Svana down the beach and settled onto the sand, using the actions as an opportunity to sort out what he would and would not tell his sister about his first viking. He wasn't going to lie, obviously, but there wasn't any particular need to tell her the entire truth either. He wasn't particularly proud of the entire truth, even though the things he wasn't proud of weren't really his fault.
"Well, like I said, there was a lot of rain. It was problematic, which put a lot of tempers on edge, especially the captain's. Still, I think I made at least one sort-of friend. Erykk. He's older, but he's got a decent sense of humor and he's not always an a**."
Again, the small shrug.
"But what about your viking? It seems like you've made a host of new friends."

As they settled on the sand, Svana listened intently, ear flicking. She could tell her sibling wasn’t telling her everything, but it didn’t sound like it had been very good viking. She knew there were many Captains that weren’t as good as others. She had lucked out with Lucivar but that had been mostly by chance. Huffing softly she flicked her tail.
“He sounds like an a**.” Only one plan? And a mean temper just because he got wet? She couldn’t imagine anyone she knew being that strict. Wrinkling her nose she shook her head. “I’m glad you found someone worth while though. At least it wasn’t a total bust I suppose.” His question made her grin sharply. “Yeah, well, I wouldn’t call them friends, not yet. But they are great reavers. Lennart and Lucivar have been working together for years, and even the other freeborn that came with us, Lucivar’s son, put on a good show. We rescued a lioness from a crazed leopard and brought her back as a thrall. Lucivar has offered me a permanent place in his band, a least until I want to move on.” Pausing she tipped her head, wondering if her bother would want to hear the rest of the gossip going on, but then he probably already knew about the tension between the reaver Ronan and his brother, a Captain named Ragnvard.
After a moment she poked at him with a paw. “I wish you had come with.“ it had been weird, not having her brother beside her for her first real fight. She knew the leopard would have been far less difficult if she and Käle could have worked together.

"He was an a**," Käle agreed. "But as you say, it wasn't a total bust. I'm a reaver."
As far as he was concerned, that made the rest of it worth it, even though reality had proven disappointing when compared to his youthful dreams of his first viking. Truly, it was unlikely that anything could have lived up to his expectations, which had been fairly unrealistic to begin with.
It seemed, however, that Svana had gotten much closer to his ideal first viking, and that didn't strike Käle as being quite fair. Nevertheless, he was genuinely pleased for his sister, even though he was also hugely jealous, particularly upon learning that she had been offered a permanent place in Captain Lucivar's band.
"I wasn't the one he asked," Käle pointed out, not quite able to keep his bitterness from coloring his tone despite his best efforts. "It's great that your captain thinks so highly of you though."

"Pffft. He didn't ask me, I asked him if I could go with him." She grinned at her sibling, unable to entirely keep from teasing him just a tiny bit. Though she shrugged after a moment. "Not really me specifically, he takes quite a few freeborn out for their first viking and if they succeed he offers them a place until they can find their own Captain. He calls it advanced training... " pausing she eyed her sibling. She wanted him with her, and it seemed he hadn't been impressed with the Captain he had found. So... "Why don't you ask him if you can join too? Then we can go out together."

Käle considered. Somehow he had not known that Svana had asked to go with her captain. They'd both wasted more than enough time hoping their father would take them, but it seemed Käle was more of a time waster than his sister, ultimately. That was sort of embarrassing. It wasn't like he had flowers in his blood or anything, despite both halves of his parentage coming from outlander families. That had nothing to do with it. He'd just thought there was a certain way things had to be done, and apparently he had been mistaken.
"You know, I might do that. After all, I think I can get a good recommendation from one of his current reavers." He nudged Svana with his shoulder and grinned. She'd better give him a good recommendation.

She knew the moment Käle made up his mind to join her and her expression lit up with triumph. She knew her brother would much prefer being a Reaver under Lucivar! And she would get to go Viking with him just as they should have from the beginning. Finally, Lucivar would see what the siblings were truly capable of!
Laughing as he nudged her he swotted him back playfully. "Well... I suppose I can.. " Grinning broadly she bumped him back with her own shoulder then motioned towards where the Captain was resting. "No time like the present, right?" Without giving her brother time to regret his decision, she marched across the stony sand right up to her Captain. Having not been paying the two younger lions any heed, Lucivar had stretched out once more, eyes closed. But at the sound of approaching pawsteps he had opened his eyes and sat up, so when Svana arrived before him he was watching his newest Reaver with a welcoming, slightly amused expression. She certainly never did anything by halves, this one. She was all or nothing, and he approved. Turning his gaze on the male who was quite obviously her sibling, he waited for the pair to explain what they wanted.

There wasn't really any regret in Käle's mind about abandoning his lackluster captain in favor of one he might prefer, but he still appreciated his sister's haste in seeing something done about it. He wanted to be about the earning of fame and fortune as quickly as possible, and that wouldn't happen unless he had a captain to follow. At least until he could find enough reavers to support him as a captain in his own right. The idea made his mouth curl into a pleased smile.
"Captain," Käle said, taking the lead, as it was his request about his future, and allowing Svana to make it for him would make him look flower-blooded. "My name is Kekäle Brenningson. Svana is my sister. If you've room in your band for one more, I would like to join you in your next viking."
There. It wasn't the most eloquent thing he might have said, but it was straightforward and polite, and that was surely sufficient.

Svana dipped her head politely to her Captain before turning her head to grin at her brother. She had no fears that Lucvar may turn him away, and she could already feel the excitement building inside her at the idea of their next viking. It would most certainly be even better than the last! Vague ideas of setting up their own reaver band filtered through her mind, after all Lucivar’s band was huge now, and they could maybe take Fenrir with them.. he was young and strong, if rather quiet. Who else? Deciding she would have to keep an eye out for potential recruits, she looked back at the Captain as her brother put forward his request. Watching the siblings approach he dipped his head back at Svana when she greeted him before turning his full attention on the young male. As the new reaver put forth his request Lucivar studied him, assessing Kale’s condition and strength. Having known Svana and watched her fighting, he was predisposed towards this young male, but still he turned to the one of the pair he already knew. “Svana?” Shifting as her Captain’s intelligent stare shifted back to her she hid her smirk, trying to appear in control and totally unphased. But she was still new even so and she had to steady her thoughts. “Sir, I believe my brother would be an excellent addition to your reavers. We have trained together every day since we were cub. I don’t know of a finer fighter in our generation.” Hoping that sounded professional enough she glanced back at her sibling. Turning back to the male, Lucivar studied him thoughtfully. “Alright, Kekäle Brenningson, I will accept you on a trial basis and make a permanent decision after your first viking with us. I don’t honestly expect any problems but we need to keep it fair. Do you accept?”

Käle had not been particularly concerned about being welcomed to the band once Svana said it was a possibility. Although they both dreamed of greatness, neither sibling was so much a dreamer that they would knowingly mislead the other when it came to matters in the real world, such as whether Captain Lucivar was likely to take him on as a reaver.
"I accept, Captain," Käle replied, keeping things simple, although behind his relatively stoic demeanor he was positively gleeful at the prospect of being in a viking band with his sister and a decent captain.
This was where his luck would turn. This would be the beginning of his glorious career!Tanakako Finished, do you suppose?

Lucivar nodded his agreement, a broad smile curling across his muzzle. "Welcome to the band." Giving Svana a nod he turned and padded back to where he had been resting, settling down to enjoy the rest of the morning before he went off to hunt. He was pleased with what had happened, he had bene watching the young Kakale after discovering he was Svana's sibling, and knew the youngster would do well under his care. Maybe the pair of them would create their own unique place in time. Grinning as the captain walked off she turned to her brother, practically shivering with savage joy. "What did I say! I can't wait to the next Viking!" Despite her brother's calm expression she knew he was as thrilled as she was. Now they would show the entire pride what they were truly capable of!
