He'd failed once. But he wasn't going to fail again. Taking a deep breath, he faced the border once more when he caught a scent. "I am Jokull SigvarĂ°r, and I seek an askorun to prove my worth to enter the pride!" He stood tall and proud once more, recovered from his loss to Phosphor. He would not lose again. He would gain entrance for he and Gaelle.

Nafsi was enjoying some time home from being out a-viking, doing a quick tour along the borders to see if there was anyone daring to approach the borders. She took pause when she heard a voice call out with a challenge, and a grin broke out on her muzzle. The Reaver made her way towards the challenger, chuckling.
"I am Nafsi-kataa, Reaver of this pride, and I accept your challenge, Jokull!"

It wouldn't be the first time he'd seen a warrior female. It was, however, the first time he'd seen one who could rival him in size. She had answered his challenge, however, and he would not disappoint. Not this time. He would win, and he and Gaelle would settle themselves as was proper.
The rogue life really was unkind to his wife.
"Then let us begin!" He began to move, not rushing to her, but not stalling either. A measure, a feint, a testing of the waters.

He moved well, a fighter through and through. But so was she. She'd been around far longer than he, and she had no intentions of letting him get through without proving he was at least somewhat skilled. She'd once been a General. She had no idea what he had been. "Good move!" She moved to match his feint, already impressed by the restraint he showed. Many fighters just could not manage that without age. And he didn't have near her years.

She might have had years, but he had youth and skills honed by war. He matched her movement with another seeming feint...except he kept on the direction he started, striking out at her flank. He kept his claws sheathed, simply looking to prove his skills.

She felt his paw connect as she moved to avoid what she thought was his feint. She stumbled a bit, but recovered quickly, a grin on her face. Oh! Not only was he skilled, he was smart! She did hope he kept showing off like that. The Stormborn always needed sorts like him. Hells, if he kept it up, she already saw potential to be more than just a reaver in him..."Come now, that cannot be your only trick!" She used the momentary opening to dart forward and whip one of her massive paws at him.

There! "It certainly is not." He let the strike graze against him as he surged forward, moving to use his bulk to throw her off balance, to perhaps knock her over. He had a goal. Nothing would stand in his way, not even a female who obviously knew what she was doing. He had to win. There was no other option at this point.

She hadn't been expecting his move. Nafsi made a rather indignant noise as she stumbled back, planting her paws as best she could to avoid falling over. That wouldn't do in the the presence of a younger fighter. They tended to start getting too big for their skins if they thought they had that much of a paw up. And then where was her fun? "Not afraid to toss your weight around, hm? Good, good!" Alright. Time to play it a little more carefully...

it was always nice catching an older fighter off guard. The ice-coated lion smirked, shifting his stance to one better suited to a steady offense. "Any advantage is an advantage." He kept his eyes on her, knowing she would want to come back with something that would knock off his guard. He couldn't afford for that.

"Well don't get too comfortable with it." Nafsi chuckled as she darted forward, making a quick series of strikes with the purpose of pushing him back, getting him out of that nice, comfortable stance of his. He was young. He could put out the energy needed to stay on his toes. After all, who wanted to be outperformed by a lion many summers your elder?

He'd expected her to bring her own weight to bear, not to attack with swift strikes that had him scrambling backwards, trying to stay out of the way of those sharp claws. After the fourth step back, however, he noticed something. An opening. He just had to time it right, and risk maybe a new scar, but...When the opening came again, he took it, letting her claws hit him and putting his claws to her throat. Just enough pressure to count as a hit, but not enough to actually injure. "I win."

Nafsi was oddly delighted when he found an opening, stopping just in time to avoid any major injury from her own movements. "So you have. Well, welcome to the pride, Jokull. You've proven there's iron along with that ice. Follow me, let's get you situated." She'd have to keep an eye on him. He would be good to spar with. Perhaps see how far in the ranks he might go...
