Shun had taken the number from Renard and gotten through the necessary paperwork done to figure out who it belonged to and possibly to get its logs. Now he just needed to wait for the results. But in the meantime, he figured he could begin with the images Mr. Leroux supplied.

If Shun's expression could grow more serious at that moment, it certainly did. He stared at the texts, gritting his teeth lightly while he went over each one several times. He wanted to make sure he was reading everything correctly.
He was still waiting for the results, but he had a very strong suspicion as to who this number belonged to now.
And such, he went to try and get a hold of the Chief of Police.
"Chief Mercer. I have a new lead on the Ascension Shore case."

Jeremiah was working on a budget report when Shun arrived at his office. The moment that the words left his mouth, the moment he said Ascencion Shore, he gestured him in.
"Step in, close the door." Then, one the door was closed, he added. "Lock it. Just in case."
Shun closed the door behind him and locked it. He placed the printout of the images with the text onto Jeremiah's desk.
"Renard came in to check up on the case, then provided screenshots of a series of texts he had received the day Ascension may have been murdered."
He drew in a breath, "Good news is, it is not pointing at you to being the prime suspect."

Jeremiah snorted, if only at the good news as he reached for the prints. He blinked and read over the numbers. "This is- Well, it's from Sonny, I would assume."
A gesture was made for Shun to have a seat, as he read the texts. His lips thinned, pressed together and a breath was let out. "Have you met them? They're not at all Sunny."
"The living one, yes. That is the impression I got. I am currently awaiting analysis results for the number," Shun stated. He nodded once and moved over to sit before the desk.
"I have. Briefly. America reached out to her for help when I found Pax in his state."

"In the old reality, the way you texted Sunny was the keypad alphanumeric for her name. This, of course, would be ... Sonny." Hence the three sixes instead of an eight. "They're younger as well. Mid-hundreds as opposed to over ten-thousand ..."
Still, this ... This implied that they were there when Sunny had been killed.
"The number, if it's like the previous reality, will be a dead number. It was always the magic that made you contact her. So, in practice, you could text 76669 right now and get a hold of them." He was rereading once more. "Not that I would necessarily recommend that."
Shun took the page again to see what Jeremiah was pointing out. Squinting, he shook his head, "Admittedly no. I came here after my first pass over it."
He had focused on ensuring he was reading the text correctly, and hadn't tried to parse through the time stamps.
With a tilt of his head, he stared down at what was there.
"...An encryption key?"

"Possibly." Jeremiah was reaching for the tablet on his desk, dragging it over and pulling the stylus out as he opened up a notepad screen. 25y, m13, 1r8, 0e5 were written down in a neat, tidy script.
"I'm not sure- I mean, it would be odd that there would be letters with these but considering the sender ..." He shook his head because Sonny was magic so anything was possible.
Shun began to look things over carefully, falling silent as he concentrated on deciphering what was before them here. Decryption wasn't the strongest point for him, unfortunately. Not that he couldn't do it. It just... took him time, as with anything that relied heavily on reading and writing.

Jeremiah's email pinged. (So did Shun's, but he was away from his desk.)

Hey Kuroda,
Forwarding this to the Chief too just to be safe. So the number you sent to us turns up some stuff but none of it textable. It's the postal code for Bad Schoonborn, Germany, and an RNA inhibitor in house mice, but it's not a phone number.
Interesting fact: it's part of the case ID for a cold case from the 1920s. A missing persons report that turned into a murder when the girl was found with her wrists and throat cut. So. Probably meaningless, but those IDs are only five digits anyway.
Jeremiah was in the process of looking things over, especially given that the y was next to 25 and it was the 25th letter of the alphabet and it repeated with the other seconds and letters once he had written down an alphabet and corresponding numbers.
The ding of an email pulled his attention away. By the time he was done reading it, he was pinching the bridge of his nose and turning the screen for Shun to be able to read.
"Care for a trip down to the archives?" he asked, though his conversational tone was light, his expression was otherwise.
