Scarlet strolled through the woods at a relaxed pace. The first blanket of snow covered the ground and a few lingering flakes fell from the sky here and there. Her breath crystallized and hung in the air in front of her. It was already dark despite not being very late in the afternoon as was common this time of year. However the nearly full moon rising above the snow blanketed branches of the evergreen trees that dominated the area cast a lovely glow that was magnified by the snow. It was nearly as bright as day even if the shadows were a little deeper. Scar huffed a small laugh at the irony. Bright light, dark shadows.
The soft squeaking crunch of the snow under her hooves always thrilled her. This, the first snow, always lit a light in her chest. She could have sworn she was glowing if her eyes hadn't told her otherwise. Of course, she kept her manner demure even though she was, assumedly, alone. She had learned at an early age to hide her true feelings lest they be used against her. It was a habit that had stuck and persisted even now. You never knew when someone else might be watching. Alone or not.
She came to a little clearing, the fresh fallen snow entirely undisturbed. With out a pause, and some mild satisfaction at being the first to mark that pristine white glistening surface, Scarlet strolled to the middle of the clearing where she stopped. She stood there mildly. Taking a moment to admire the moon and what stars were peeking through the last lingering snow clouds. The ground around her glistened, sparkled and shone. She felt as though she were standing in a field of diamonds.
