The seasons were changing and the air was getting a bitter bite to it. It was this day that Nahele had insisted on taking Tahiti on a quest for the Forge Master. He would have gone on his own, but he feared for his mate. With her obsession of trying to fly with her winged kin, he could only shake his head. The bright green stallion with wild washed out orange hair stood at the job board looking at what was posted. While also keeping an eye on his also brightly colored mate. At his side a round nosed gator rested. Her short legs had carried her far and her bulk was enough to only travel short distances at one great time.
"What do you think my love? Shall we help the fine Forge Master?" He asked glancing to the side and towards Tahiti. "There is a request for feathers."
While her larger companion talked to his mate, Melika took a glance towards her own. While Nahele was mated to Tahiti, Melika had found herself smitten to Tahiti's own gator companion. It had seemed that the fates had set the stones to rolling here. Heaving a sigh, her sides flattening out a bit as she pressed closer to the ground. Did they really have to bring everyone along? She could have waited back at the roost as it were and idled in the water.
"Lets just hope this quest takes place near water. I don't know how much longer I can stand walking" The gator complained slightly, in a way wishing that she were thinner and had better land legs.
Nahele gave a glance down at Melika, "I know you would like to have stayed home, but I need all the help I can get" he muttered lowering his head a little to nose at the gator to try and soften her mood. "If we can, we can try and find a water way for you to help with the request we take." He looked away as Melika nodded, still a bit grumpy with the long over land travel they had been doing as of late.

Stepping eagerly, a grounded mare bathed in crimson scarlet fur with smaller feathers inhaled the chill of the air. Fall was settling with winter's approach leaving her lungs filled with a brisk zing that made her body energetic enough to soar through the air. Granted she was born of the ground, but her lineage was something much more bearing her eccentric behavior to act as such. Never once could she pause in her stance for a moment, rather her urge to tackle the unknown would just fade away. Hooves dancing in a marching motion she followed her mate's words to the sign and nodded with a large grin, "But of course! It's an adventure which I wouldn't miss! Right Koamalu?"
Looking downward she noted the two gators that had come along for the Forgemaster's task. Almost a Gemini quality of herself her beloved companion born of the murky waters and mud, Koamalu lived life as grand as she did.
Koamalu was still momentarily enjoying a half-cooked turkey leg courtesy of the Faire for assisting the Foregemaster. While it wasn't primarily rotten chicken which he preferred a nice snack this size was even more then he could have asked for. Crunching up the leftover bone he looked up at Tahiti and belched loudly with a big toothy smile. Granted he wasn't paying attention beforehand so he got himself up to speed, "Adventure! What she said!"
Then he turned to his head to look upon Melika, "There better be water where we're going. I'm drying out myself". Sometimes he didn't particularly agree with her logic but he was concerned that dry air could make them both a bit unsettled.
Tahiti laughed at her gator shaking her head, "Koamalu you sound like you're concerned. A big strong gator that defies the odds can't take a gamble on life?"
Turning his head he narrowed his eyes, "You are a Soquili and I'm a gator as is Melika. You don't need to be in the water as we do". He acted grumpily to achieve a sentiment for his mate. He knew completely that she didn't like being on land too much.
Tahiti shook her head at him, "No, I don't but you sir are like me adventurous to your very soul. We're going to find those feathers, get you both more turkey, and, "she paused dramatically, "become quite the favorite in the Forgemaster's eyes". Now she was merely bluffing to get a rouse out of her companion. Sooner or later he'd succumb to the thrill of the action, he always did. She mused for a moment to herself remembering Koamalu before he settled in with his more serious attuned mate. He like Tahiti could take on anything, and then some. Rambunctious to the very core he mingled with his bonded like a gator well settles himself in a huge body of water.
"Fine Fine....let's just get going" he chuckled walking over to Tahiti's side, "You better keep that promise about the turkey".

Nahele watched the conversation between his mate and her bonded companion. The both were a hoof-ful when Tahiti got it into her head that she could fly. While she wasn't really the only one to be born into a family with wings. His grandparents and great Grandparents had wings. But he knew he didn't belong in the skies, he was born to a unicorn and earth stallion. Shaking his head after a moment, Nahele grinned at his mate.
"Yes, adventure and a scavenger hunt. Feathers are tricky when not attached to something." He grinned turning away from the boards and towards the open fields off to the back side of the faire. Find as many feathers as you can and I am sure we can get enough food for all of us to last the winter." It was just a jest, but feeding the gators was a good reward for their help. As he spoke, Nahele was already looking for feathers, ones of bright colors that would prove best for the Forge Master's pillow. Well to add to the pile that was surely building with all the other Soquili and familiars helping.
Melika was glad that her own mate was on her side on this, she hated being out of the water for too long. Already she felt like her scales were going to itch! Rolling uneasily from side to side she hoisted herself off the ground as Nahele started off. Her pace not the ground eating lope she used when hunting prey. Food sounds good, Just don't let Koamalu eat it all." There was a hint of teasing in her tone, trying to not think of her back already starting to itch in places she couldn't reach. "Though surely that chicken you just ate was enough to hold you for a while."
Nahele had to chuckle and shake his head, this cool air was affecting her surely. Melika was hardly this silly, most times she was at her mate to behave himself. Would he have to pay attention to all three of them at this rate? So much for help keeping Tahiti from going 'birdie'. "Come on you guys, don't let me find all the feathers without you!" He called back before walking over to something that looked like a feather from a distance. When he reached it... Nope... It was a brightly colored leaf instead... Drat...

Tahiti snorted in disgust that this adventure was, dared she say it; her mortal enemy.
Flicking her ears she listened partially to her mate and the Gators picking up on the sound of flight not too far away from where they stood. Momentarily, she pondered it was only the wind, then a shadow took flight as a burst of wings sounded from the right clump of trees. Tahiti was no bird watcher, nor was she a flyer, but, living with relatives who were born with wings she knew the sound of flight. Of course, where the sound of flight occurs once in a great while a feather will spiral down from the avian's departure. Taking a step forward she listened again then caught sight of something twirling downward like a ballerina within a dance. Grinning she trotted over just in time to catch the spiraling feather as it started its descent to the ground.
"One down" she announced, "ah more to go!" Honestly, the Forgemaster requested feathers. Not any given amount just a wealthy payment for some soft, fine, feathers. Nudging the bag open around her neck she placed the feather inside safely.
Koamalu wasn't paying Tahiti any mind rather he was rather amused with his mate currently, "Oh trust me when it comes out I'll let you know". A wide toothy grin painted his large maw playfully as he watched her seeking for moisture. He knew that retort would definitely receive a sinister snarl on her part but, he loved getting her snappy. It always showed him she wasn't a pushover like most female gators could be.

Ears perked up a bit as he heard that Tahiti had found a feather. Well that was certainly a start. Now he had to do his part and find something, at the moment he felt that he was only here to make sure no one did anything they might regret later. Shaking his head in stubbornness, Nahele was mostly the passive one. Taking things as they came, but as his mate felt, this task seemed to want to kill him on the inside.
"I'm going to search over this way." He called out to Tahiti as he he headed in another direction, Melika following him. "Thinks have to look up from here right? Hopefully there will be more feathers here somewhere."
Nahele found a small pond, one that Melika could at least slip through to wet her skin. To this she was happy, trying to ignore the remarks her mate had tossed in her direction, she would give him a piece of her mind later. Cause apparently he didn't quite grasp what she had been talking about.
"You hunt that side, I will look over here. We should be able to find something." Melika said, refreshed from the small 'dip' in the watering hold, a thin sheen of mud on her back.
Nahele nodded as he took to the right side. There were some abandoned nests here, but none seemed to have been homes of birds. If they had been, the feathers had been squirreled away by someone or something else. Sighing, he really did feel like he was useless here. "Perhaps going back home to get feathers doesn't seem too far fetched an idea at this point." He muttered leaning against a tree. "at least there, there would be no one else to clean them up quickly."
Looking over towards Melika, it seemed that she wasn't having as good a luck as himself. This was going to take forever! Stepping away from his perch, Nahele want to walk back to where he had last seen his mate, not exactly paying attention to if she had followed him or not.

Unlike Tahiti, this round Koamalu decided to forego the dip letting Melika enjoy the coolness all to herself. He wasn't a gator of greediness like most, merely a grand extremist that loved the world and all it had to offer. Of course, he carried no wings but, you couldn't explain that to him nor his bonded. Grunting he followed Tahiti who had located a feather bringing them closer to the end of this quest. He wasn't about to be sarcastic his itch was more than could bear, rather he took the full-on approach seeking out lower bird nests. Sure enough, he found one perfect feather from its current homeowner lying there with simplicity as they would perceive it. "Over here", he called out to the others, "a second one for the pile of two now".
Tahiti had her ears trained listening to anything that moved within their vicinity certain that this place had several feathers possibly tucked within. A sudden movement sent her in a canter squaring over a rather large log only to realize a squirrel had made the sound whilst jumping from the smaller trees landing in front of her. For a moment eyes locked one another in curiosity till the bushy-tailed creature scampered away.
Snorting she turned to search another direction before catching onto Koamalu's voice which caused her to swivel in her step. Turning back she leaped the log once more trotting up beside her companion, "Excellent work Koamalu! Looking at her mate she felt a ping of sadness for his search was becoming to appear for naught. Taking the feather from her bonded she placed it gently in the bag then moved to the side of her mate, "Keep looking... You'll find something".
