In the cave, the flowing of time was not acknowledged by its sole inhabitant. Himmel did little to differentiate the days or the passing of the seasons. Time was of little importance to one lost in the twisted kingdom. Where a constant battle raged between illusion and reality. There were moments of lucidity and moments of peace. On occasion, Himmel would walk to the mouth of the cave and watch the top of the moon hover over the treescape. The moon's light soothed Himmel tortured soul. The alluring light of the moon could briefly mitigate his pain. For the moon was an old soul, a primordial being that existed before wingless soq walked the land and ageni soared through the sky. The moon acted as a beacon to lost souls. Its presence provided heavenly guidance, yet for Himmel, the moon provided a reprieve. While he looked at the moon he could organize his thoughts. He could release the emotions that shackled him and briefly let go of his grief, grievances, and frustration. For the moon had hanged over him his entire life its presence offered normalcy. No other presence had acted as a balm to his soul. Yet the moon was fickle it waxed and waned. For a feature of the sky, the moon was never in situ. No the moon traveled across the sky and changed. Sometimes it was visible during the daylight hours while some nights the sky was dull without its presence. Still, Himmel was thankful for the brief respite the moon provided. Since his exile, he no longer had contact with his friends or family. In his loneliness, he turned to the moon for it provided him with light and clarity. Even the fallen need some kind of companionship and the moon is a generous soul that provides light for all. [W:305]
