Exceptions? A dolphin can be converted to a Clanned vampire only, but it would have to be via trickery in character.
These beautiful people of the sea are kind, gentle and loving. They are protective of the waters they swim through, and really do NOT like litter and pollution getting into their waters. If one were to catch someone dumping trash in waters they were in, it would be highly likely the polluter would get an unpleasant surprise of all of the trash nearby, theirs or not, being thrown back out of the water at THEM, in the intention of showing them how it felt.
Outside of that, the dolphins are a varied people. Many are singers of great renown, or water dancers. Others are pearl hunters and gatherers of shellfish... In carefully limited quantities. Still others are protectors of the waters very specifically, making sure over-fishing and the like do not become a problem. All dolphins CAN sing, mind, as that is how they communicate under water, but some are exceptional. Also, they are all very powerful swimmers. The most powerful might become professional racers, or long distance swimmers.
They have a Queen (To Be Made) who they all follow, and love, for she is just as kind and gentle as her people. The Queen has a small court of ladies and gentlemen who help her run her 'queendom', but outside of the Queen herself, there is no real rank system... To become a Courtier means one has shown talent at organization or something equally useful to Her Majesty and the people as a whole.
Their Goddess, Delphinia, has a temple and within it, there is a small group of Priestesses and Handmaidens, but as always, they are chosen by talent and skill.
The males of the race were a later creation by their Goddess, who did not want her Daughters to get lonely, for those who were not the kind to love their fellow ladies.
