It seemed Artemis had chosen the most interesting possible time to rise from torpor.
So much was moving. So much was changing. It was...refreshing, in its way. And in the midst of chaos, there was always opportunity, but that was for later. For now, there was someone she needed to speak to.
Her favorite Haven, the one she'd spent her long torpor hidden away in, had a lovely balcony off the second-floor master suite, and it was there that she leaned, thoughtfully watching the starry sky. She'd have liked to catch a glimpse of the sunset, but....well.
Such things were lost to her.
Ah, well. No use dwelling on centuries-old sorrows. Not when there were new and interesting things to pursue.
"Grendel," she said, aloud though it was probably unnecessary, given the new power she suspected he wielded, "do you have a moment for me? Or are you too busy with other responsibilities?"

Always
The voice came to her as though carried on the wind, though mere moments after they arrived so did Grendel. He materialized from the shadows on Artemis's balcony, stepping from them as one might step out of a cloak, and shrugged them off as if to free himself of them.
To the Disciple, he may have looked quite different from the last time they had been face-to-face. He had grown, matured, and his hair was longer, tied in a long, if somewhat dishveled braid. Of course, those were normal things to expect. But at his back, where tentacles like Caine's had once sprouted, there were instead 4 writhing shadow tendrils, which seemed to be in constant flux, solid and then not, but then solid again.
He was also wearing pants. If that meant anything at all. And a golden ring on the finger of each hand.
"So long as you make it quick." He said.
He may have just left someone tied up in his bed.

Artemis smiled. She turned, as soon as she heard Grendel's voice in her head, leaning back against the low wall of the balcony.
"Look at you. All grown up," she sighed, fondly, "and freed of Caine's marks. A god in your own right, now."
It was impressive, honestly. Darkness moved around him like an old friend, and his air of command...well, she supposed that it might even rival her own, when she was trying.
"I'd hate to keep you from whatever business you have of late," her eyes flicked to the rings, "but I think you know what this is about. I felt the shift. I imagine we all did. Very exciting. So, tell me, Grendel...do you have plans for what to do with your new strength?"

"I have always been a God, Artemis; it's just that now I have finally been able to step out of his shadow." He smiled a wicked smile, fangs peeking out over his bottom lip as he did so. Brushing his hair back from his face, he regarded her not just as an old friend, but as someone with new knowledge, and raw power that he was still learning to control.
The way she flicked her gaze down to the rings that adorned his fingers was not lost on him, and while he had not made his relationship with Ravnos public knowledge, he was sure it would only be a matter of time before that particular bit of gossip spread throughout the vampiric world. He was sure Artemis herself was already putting two and two together. Or, perhaps, she already had.
"My plans have not changed. I will do as I have always done, and do my best to look after the vampires and keep them safe from harm. I am sure you are aware we have many, many enemies." He paused, before continuing on.
"Suppose, however, that I would be willing to share in some of my 'new strength', as you put it. Your attachment to my father has been severed, yes?" He smiled because he knew it had been, and he was quite pleased with that fact. "And now you feel...not quite so powerful?"
Amusement seemed to glimmer in his eyes as he teased her. Clearly, someone was being a bad influence on him.

Artemis tilted her head to the side, a brief acknowledgement that yes, it was true: he had always been a God. "Out of his shadow and into a night all your own."
She'd have to needle him later about who those lovely rings were for. She had her suspicions, of course, but there would be an especial joy in prying it from him directly. The sort of pride an older sibling might feel, teasing a little brother about a new relationship. Or, Artemis supposed that was what it was like. She hadn't really been an older sister in....
A very long time.
Another thing Caine had stolen from her. Her family, her beloved, her life.
But she had taken what he had given her, and made herself into something greater than the lost little girl she had been. And now, she would free herself from him forever.
"Mm, it's true. We need our leaders strong, now more than ever." She frowned. "So many people wish to target our kind. Which is exactly why I wanted to speak to you."
She extended a hand.
"The loss of my bond with Caine was a blow. But, I think, I'd much prefer to be bound to you, anyway. And I certainly can't afford any weakness. Not now. Not ever."
She had been weak, once. It had cost her everything. Never again.

He eyed that extended hand. He had known, instinctively, that Artemis would be the first of the Disciples to offer her allegiance to him. Ravnos did not quite count, as the God had done it to save him and bring him back from the other plane of existence. But he'd had to recreate him, from the essence up.
What he would be doing with Artemis would be only slightly different, he supposed. It would be like a recreation, of sorts, though he would not need to strip away her physical form to do it.
Just her metaphyisical one. No big deal.
He grasped her hand in his, "If you are sure...?" He asked, eyes still gleaming bright.

"I never agree to something I'm not certain of," Artemis said. She smiled, broad and vicious. "And I don't make bad deals."
Not since becoming what she was now, at least. And, really, if she couldn't trust her new God, what was she doing?
"I look forward to helping you change the world, Grendel."

"Very well." He nodded, his grin widening.
It wouldn't actually be that bad. The groundwork was already placed when Caine had been ousted from his position as God of all vampires, and Grendel had replaced him. The experience would be different for everyone, depending on how well they accepted the new bond. With his power, he weaved a new connection, a stronger tether between the Disciple and himself.
And through that tether, he shared with her some of his power, filling the void of what had been lost. For a moment, it may have all felt overwhelming, painfully so, but that would soon ease.
Artemis would feel any of her lost power returned, and possibly even a little bit more than that. A gift, for being the first (well, second), and for being such a willing recipiant at that.

Artemis braced herself for pain. Much of her unlife, she had come to find, was exactly that: pain on pain on pain, with moments of glorious ecstasy and delightful thrill stolen in between.
It was thus, to her, more of a surprise that it didn't hurt, that Grendel's power came to her like a gift from an old friend--but then, that was what it was, wasn't it. Willingly offered, gladly accepted, and so when it poured into her, even as it seared under her skin, and she felt for a moment that she might come apart from the sheer strength of it--
The pain was secondary.
The promise came first.
And when it was done, she stood before him, stronger than she had ever been when she was bound to Caine.
"Thank you," she said. "I look forward to seeing what we can do, together."

"And now you are the second." He said, his voice gone low and quiet, a much more serious look on his face than what had been offered before. It was strange to him, to feel those new connections. Each one made him feel more whole like this is how it was meant to be all along.
He removed his hand from hers and took a step back.
"I would stay and chat, Artemis, but I am called elsewhere." The smile returned, and for a moment it almost seemed Grendel was looking at something else entirely, his eyes not quite in focus.
He chuckled a little, once again looking far too pleased with himself. "Or I might have a few more minutes to spare after all, if there was anything else I could do for you?"

"You know," Artemis said, amused, "I'd ask who the first was, if not me, but I think I can guess." Rumors got around, after all, and she paid especial attention to the ones that sounded like Grendel.
She gazed down at her own hands, still a little giddy from the exchange of power. It would be interesting to know if it always felt like this--or if it was just the brightness and newness of it all.
Oh, far be it for me to keep you from anything too important," she said, "but I do just enjoy getting to chat with you. Especially since it's been so long--I really did let myself rest so much more than I needed to." She hummed. "And do keep me informed on the situation. If you need me to...hm...encourage any of the Camarilla disciples to make the right decision--if any of them are even still awake--I'm happy to help. I'd hate to see us divided, now."

"Hmmm." He mused when she said she could likely guess who the first Disciple had been. "While I do not doubt that you could, there is a story there that I might have liked to tell you, had I more time." Indeed, he and Ravnos had not been keeping their relationship very private, though Grendel did tend to wander the mortal realm under a mortal guise. Those who knew him would undoubtably recognize him either way.
As if reading her thoughts, he also said "I do not know fully what you will be capable of now, I only know that you will be stronger than you have ever been." A smile. "Enjoy."
It seemed like their time had run out, and Artemis did not seem to have any questions for him, so he turned to go.
"I will let you know." He said, and then paused one last time. "We have many enemies, Artemis." A repeat of what he said earlier. "I may be calling upon you and the other Disciples soon. I hope you will be ready to answer. No more sleeping."

Artemis laughed. "Another time, when you have more of it. I'd like to hear the tale from you. I bet it's thrilling." Because what else could it be? It was the story of his ascension to godhood, and Artemis wanted ot know all of it.
"I'll drop by your new temple sometime. For now, I ought to work on getting my Clan in order. And find out what all the politics are looking like." She sighed, but it was a delighted sort of sound. "Ah, I've missed these games."
She gave him a little wave.
"Anyway, I can hardly go back to sleep when being awake is so much more exciting. I look forward to your call, Grendel."
