April 4th - Giovanni Clan Family Dinner

1444 - Augustus Giovanni holds a feast to celebrate his decision to betray Cappadocius and take over his clan. The anniversary becomes the date when Giovanni family members are nominated for a Proxy Kiss or embrace.

___________________________________________

The grounds sprawled across acres of perfectly manicured lawn, surrounded by heavy woods and protected by high stone walls topped with wrought iron spikes. An impressively sized graveyard lay solemnly to the right against a backdrop of ominous-looking trees and curious hills. It was nestled far enough from the Estate so as not to be easily noticed at first glance but still within easy walking distance from the mansion itself. The size of the graveyard was hard to determine from the Estates' main entrance, knowing the family it was likely massive. It stood waiting, a haunted and chilling place. Ancient weeping willows enshrouded the long solemn path that led guests toward the most common destination. It stretched from the giant arched entryway to the mansion, secured against any undesirable company by thick wrought-iron gates marked on both sides with an ornate and gilded letter G.

The mansion lay at the end of the path itself, perched atop a small hill like an ominous jewel. The craftsmanship was breathtaking, surrounded by grounds maintained to an almost impossible standard. Not a leaf out of place or a petal on a flower wilted. However, the structure itself felt anything but warm and inviting. This was where the Giovanni resided. Generations had lived and breathed their last within these walls, some refusing to leave even once they had. Some shed their mortal coil in favor of eternity, and the less fortunate ones by being dragged back from Oblivion to serve their family even after death.

The grand double doors of the entryway stood firmly, shielding the world from the horrors and wonders within the hallowed halls of the Giovanni. But tonight was a special occasion, so they would open wide and beckon in la famiglia from across the face of Faetasia. April 4th. The night when all Giovanni came together to celebrate, drink, feast, and lavish the central family with a tribute in the hopes of currying favor, reaffirming loyalties, and elevating their status. It was a show of Giovanni guile and class, of who could dazzle with those impeccable social skills of which the Giovanni were so notable and, perhaps, find themselves or a chosen up-and-coming family member, in line for that special secret gift only the inner circle seemed to possess. The one only they could grant. Most of the mortal family remained oblivious to the Clan itself. Mortal family members were kept in the dark as much as possible unless they had something to offer or showed great promise.

Ascending the steps to the large double doors the air grew cold in the foyer. A series of candles flickered to life suddenly, illuminating the beautiful room in a warm glow. No expense had ever been spared in the prominent Giovanni Estate. The floor was finely polished black and white marble, and the staircase winding up on both sides to the upper levels of the Estate stood wrapped by ornate handrails of gold, formed by only the finest tradesman. The stairs themselves were dressed in luxury Italian carpet and boasted fine Persian runners of red and gold. Every detail, from the art that adorned the walls, to the curtains hanging in the windows, to even the tiniest bit of embroidery in the pillows dressing the chaise lounges, was all exquisite. No expense spared. As was the Giovanni way.

The light in the upper hallway of the Estate flickered softly, illuminated by elegant sconces that threw uneasy shadows into corners and across the floor. Each sconce attached to the wall by an ornate mount that likely cost more than what an average Kat might make in a single lifetime. They lined the long passage between large gilded portraits displaying various Giovanni family, land, and historically significant points of interest. The further along one walked, the more intriguing the content of the images became. More obscure. Darker. A beautiful red runner led hallway patrons further along, boldly displaying intricate patterns of gold and obsidian. To the right, a series of breaks in sconces and paintings presented beautiful, sturdy ebony wood doors, totaling eight before reaching the middle. These contained various offices of trusted Giovanni members within the inner circle. Those who had long ago shed their mortal coil to serve and prosper the family for eternity.

To the left lay an elaborate, classy railing made of Ebony wood that overlooked an indoor garden, immaculately landscaped, boasting a grand koi pond inhabited by large white, silver, and gold koi. Directly above it, the ceiling was made of dark, frosted glass, allowing natural light to feed the plant life below while also keeping harmful rays from penetrating the building's interior and its nocturnal inhabitants during the day. The entire hallway circled around the garden to another stairwell that ended opposite the first, so that one could choose to ascend either right or left from the main entrance. The opposite hallway mirrored the first. Beautiful art, eight ebony wood doors, and golden sconces. In between these two sides, directly in the middle at the end of both hallways, sat a large pair of double doors with ornate obsidian handles. This was where Augustus conducted his affairs. Family, business, or otherwise.

A second set of double doors, across from the mansions front doors and in-between the stairs, stood open to reveal a staircase leading down beneath the indoor garden. Lavish red carpet flowed like blood toward a pristine white marble ballroom floor. Grand pillars lined the room on both sides, mirrors of one another, carved by craftsmen of immense skill and impeccable detail. If one looked up from the large dancefloor, one would see the beautiful, serene sight of koi swimming lazily in their pristine environment. A stage stood empty for the moment except for a single pianist filling the room with a haunting, yet beautiful, melody. Later others would join him and fill the house with elegant music.

To the left of the main entrance was the formal dining room. Likely one of the largest rooms in the home, second only to the ballroom and the garden. In its center lay a long table. The frame was polished mahogany, its feet were claws that dug deeply into the floor, and the top a rich obsidian stone polished to smooth perfection. It was so well maintained that any guest could easily see their reflection within its surface. Gilded candelabras lined the center, bathing the room in a haunting glow. The walls that faced out onto the Estates grounds were lined with impressive floor-to-ceiling windows, each framed by thick velvet curtains in a rich crimson shade and drawn back to reveal a breathtaking view of the verdant, rolling hills of the property. In the near distance stood a large lake, the water adorned in a dazzling array of colors which radiated out from hundreds of lights that floated lazily across the surface.

To the right of the entrance was a large drawing room with a massive, elegant fireplace of white marble framed by two ominous-looking marble canines that reminded one more of the black dog that preceded death than any hunting dog or wolf. Their eyes set with obsidian, mouths open, sporting elongated fangs and lolling tongues. Several chaise lounges could be found within this area, allowing those who needed respite from the constant chatter and shameless favor currying to find peace or for the cheeky lover to whisper sweet nothings to his or her beloved in a more intimate setting. Bookcases lined the walls, only breaking their uniformity for a second door opposite the one that led into the drawing room. This door led to Nonna's kitchen.

Since his reawakening, Augustus had taken his time to get things back in order. There was no need to rush. The family had all, by now, realized he had awakened and were likely scrambling to get their excuses in order and make sure that if they had terrible news to present that they also had solutions. He doubted very much there would be a glut of bad news tonight. The family seemed stable enough, if not dusty and exceedingly dull. It was past time to bring the Giovanni back to their former glory. And he would bring them, kicking and screaming if he had to, back to fevered life and untarnished luster. Of that, he was certain. They just needed a little kick. Some... motivation. Luckily he had a knack for finding that particular thing in everyone which motivated and inspired them. Not always in the kindest way. He chose to keep to civilized behavior at all costs when it came to family politics, but could certainly be effective should the situation require a less diplomatic approach.

The doors to his office on the second floor were currently closed, only permitting entry when the time was appropriate. Once unlocked, they would open onto a spacious lounge for receiving guests and business associates. The inner sanctum of his office rested behind another set of doors on the opposite wall from the entrance. The décor, ambiance, and art were the epitome of refined luxury and taste. A fire writhed lazily in the large white marble fireplace guarded on either side by two of the same canines found in the drawing room on the first floor. Augustus's enthralling golden eyes gazed distantly into the flames with a purposeful intensity, his tall, muscular frame as still as stone, not unlike the fiendish marble hellhounds which guarded the fire within the hearth. He lounged upon the elegant curved sectional set a safe distance from the fireplace, lost in thought. Beautiful, silken locks cascaded over his shoulders and down his back, pale and luminous as the moon. His claws lazily slid around the rim of his crystal glass, the amber liquid within shimmering as the soft firelight hit it.

Tonight would certainly be interesting.

Gigi Della Passaglia had known something was going on. The families had been gathering, many that had left were returning. Even Edon had come back. A most fortuitous development for her indeed.

When the letter had arrived it had it all but confirmed her suspicions. Augustus was awake, the Disciple had been asleep for a very long time. What had exactly stirred him from his slumber she wondered. But the invitation was just a formality, this dinner she knew was mandatory. And one that Gigi had no plan on missing. That would be a grave error on n her part.

She was dressed in a red satin dress with lace. A power color coupled with a delicate fabric spike columns about who she was. Her hair was pulled back in an impeccable half ponytail, long two toned hair flowed behind her as she made her way along the past towards the main estate. It didn’t seem like many had arrived just yet, which was fine. Once they all started to arrive is when the fun would begin. Business deals, gossip, tension, it would be a veritable powder keg. She would be surprised if there was no incident. Especially since the Puttanesca going to be there.

But for now she just enjoyed the walk along the path in the moonlight. The Elder Dell Passaglia was in no rush to be the first one to officially arrive at the estate. She had told her grandchildren that she expected them to be here and if they didn’t show there could quite possibly be hell to pay later. Her family might have been small, even more so since her children were out of town but that didn’t mean they couldn’t represent their house

His grandmother had stressed how important it was that Matteo be at this family dinner. To an annoying degree. Something about being the heir and responsibilities to the house. He needed to be visible to the other houses, even if Matteo didn’t want to play his role.

However, he did not arrive with Gigi tonight. Instead he had spent most of his time with Nico lately so they had arrived together. Matteo with his arm looped with the dark haired vampire’s arm. He was wearing one of his best casual suits, his shirt open to the waist like he normally wore it. He was a little more polished tonight than he probably would put into his appearance otherwise but again it was stressed that he play the part. That was the dumb thing about these family dinners. They were certain expectations that the blond gampire just didn’t care about.

They had arrived separately from Gigi. She still had issue with Nico which Matteo had told her that she needed to get over because they were non-casual now and Matteo had planned to keep Nico around for a while yet. He smiled up at the other, brown eyes warm with a little hint of longing. There were much better things, funner things they could be doing with their time.

He had only heard about Augustus, never met him and the blond eas only mildly curious about the man who led the clan. “Doesn’t seem to be many here yet does there?” He tightened his grip on Nico’s arm. Shooting the dark haired vampire a warm, charming smile.

There was no question that Romeo would be at this family gathering. It had been a long time since the last time he had been to one so there would probably be a lot of new faces. Edon has told him attendance was mandatory, there were no if, ands or buts. The Machiavelli family, ALL of the Machiavelli family was required to be there no matter how they got there.

Luckily for Romeo he pretty much just arrived with his Uncle but his mind was on something else. Or more like someone else.

Eloisa.

Would she be ther tonight or would he face disappointment? Only time would tell. Stormy gray eyes kept a casual look out for her. Yea t wouldn’t be hard to slot her or eve lm hear her before he saw her. Which was fine,!85 was refreshing from the demure and reserved women his family tried to throw at him. Eloisa was something else and while their relationship was barely that, they hadn’t labeled it yet, he felt a pull towards her.

Leaving his Uncle’s side, Romeo began to make his way towards the main estate, passing by the Lasy Della Passaglia as long strikes carried him towards the mansion. Something had been going on between the Elder Passaglia and his uncle. There were whispers and gossip of course but he rarely payed attention to such things. Participating in gossip seemed rather base to him, Eloisa enjoyed it though for some reason though.

It had been l more than a century since the last time the Head of the Hidalgo family had been in any close proximity to the Giovanni mansion. Having spent most of his time out in the desert instead of the city like most of the Giovanni seemed to do.

He definitely was not a stuffed shirt like some of them. Angel was wild and needs room to roam. It seemed so claustrophobic here now with the family explosions. Perhaps he was lucky in that sense. The Hidalgo family was rather small and the number of them that were vampires was even less. But that suited him just fine, that meant less people he had to deal with.

The dark furred vampire wore brightly colored clothes and gobs of gold jeeelry. Everything he wore was a homage to his heritage. Long black braids trailed behind him as he moved almost silently through the front door of the mansion. As he stepped inside and walked a few paces into the foyer Angel let out a long, drawn out whistle. It never sealed to amaze him how lavish the other Giovanni liked to live. But then again Angel didn’t say I’m one particular spot for very long so having these kind of lavish items would pose a problem with his ability to be able to up and leave.

Angel didn’t expect any others of his house to show up. Which was fine he would represent them just fine. He wasn’t an Elder for nothing anyway.

Regulus had been unsure about this whole family gathering thing. It sounded important and like something though outside of her family probably weren’t welcome to. But Vespara reassured him that it would be alright.

The male suspected that her fathers would be there and perhaps this was a sneaky way of getting them to finally meet him. Well, if such were the case he’d have to be on his best behavior. Though she made it difficult sometimes to do so, especially when she was tucked into the crook of his arm. Or when they were kissing and she had her hands all over him. Maybe if things went well they might be able to sneak off to some place a little more private later.

The would be a plus for the night.

He was only slightly nervous as he stood outside the gates, staring into the estate grounds. He had worn a casual suit, the top few buttons of his shirt beneath the jacket were unbuttoned and his long dark hair was worn down. No need for braids and bows tonight.

Tucking his hands into his pockets the male vampire waited. She was supposed to meet him here by the gates. He probably could have slipped into the mansion with those who had already arrived but that would probably be dangerous if he got caught wandering around without her to vouch for him.

Finally.

As Nonna took one final walk around the mansion, checking and double checking everything was perfect, she was filled with a warmth that hadn’t existed in her chest for at least a century. It was pride. It was the iron grip of the family wrapping itself around her dead heart that whispered, ‘look, do you see? do you remember?’. It was a return to glory, to grandeur. AN echo of times long past.

They had languished for far too long and Augustus had been the only one capable of bringing them back from the brink. Oh, they’d done their best. Herself and Amadeo, the other family heads tending to their own flocks. But none of them had the overarching brilliance that their Disciple contained. As infuriating as he could be, Nonna would have disemboweled herself on the spot if he'd asked, knowing full well it would mean something.

She’d done away with the apron today, dressed herself more appropriately for a party. A black dress with a white shawl. Her glasses still perched on her nose, hair pulled still into a tight bun. Not as elegant as those who were starting to arrive but there was an aura about her, an old menacing presence that was at odds with her short grandmotherly form.

Though she smiled at all who entered, her gaze was sharp and assessing. This was an important night. Nothing would be allowed to go awry.

Just got to get through this, one night then back to work, back to where things made sense. Andreas repeated in his head as he slipped in keeping, or at least hoping he was keeping, his usual stony expression he wore for work up, feeling a bit naked with his sunglasses tucked away in a pocket, having been told many times before it be rude to wear them outside his occupation.

Once inside he looked for a spot out of the way enough to avoid being pulled into some conversation about family business he could barley follow, but not far enough away to draw suspicion, after all someone trying to hide in a dark lonely corner would be someone he would be profiling at work, after finding a spot to wait out the night he straightened up, folded his arms behind his back and resigned himself to an uncomfortable night while hopefully avoiding anyone from work. He's already passed one on the way in but thankfully he looked preoccupied.

It had been many centuries since Bac Dunsirn, or, well, -any- Dunsirn, had been to the manor. His family had kept him extremely busy with their various tasks, most of which they could have easily done themselves. Not knowing entirely where he was meant to be, he simply decided to follow some of the others that had arrived before him, but not knowing any of them personally, he soon drifted off on his own, finding a comfortable spot to recline and watch the others mingle. Out of the way, but not like he was trying to hide.

Parties were fun things.... when they didn't involve your family. He was dressed for the occasion and old enough to understand when his presence was required, but that didn't mean Davide wanted to go. In fact, one could say he was almost a sulking teenager with his attempts to get out of going to the family dinner. He would much rather be at one of the various party places throughout the nightlife around the world instead of being forced to this dinner.

He could only sigh, straighten his jacket, and make his way to his destination after leaving work early. Which he didn't like either, if he was being honest. It was a hard job to keep the Giovanni family name out of the mud at times, and to keep every bit of news circulating correctly within the mortal realm regarding all their business ventures, but the twins managed most days. It was hard work to bribe, blackmail, and otherwise manipulate the smarter mortals though.

After arriving, Davide started to look around for a familiar friendly face and not one that wanted to punch his in. Which meant avoiding the large gaggle of sisters that could be roving around. He went to grab a drink and become one with a wall, at least for the moment.

Everything was in order, everything had its place, and Vincenzo had made sure he fit the part. His dark hair was styled, his brand new, freshly tailored, black suit looked sharp, and there wasn't a wrinkle to be found anywhere upon him. With an expensive, purple tie and matching pocket square to match, the only time he looked better was at his wedding to Claudius, so many years prior. Now that had been a celebration...

All said, Vincenzo hadn't very far to go, given who his mate was, and where he presently resided ... but the Giovanni mansion, in all its brilliance, would never entirely feel like home. That feeling was reserved solely for Claudius and Vespara, and them alone -- otherwise, the estate was simply that. An estate. He was as much an outsider as any of them, but that didn't bother Vinny, not really. Instead, he stood proudly, head held high. This was going to be a wonderful night... but most nights were, according to the insurance salesman.

In no rush, Vincenzo remained on Claudius' arm. There was a slow trickle of famiglia, but he knew it wouldn't take long for more and more to arrive. "And where are you going?" He asked, watching Vespara, who was on Claudius' other arm, step away.

"To fetch a guest of my own, Papà," she explained. "I'll be back soon." She leaned up to plant a small kiss on first Claudius' cheek, than Vinny's, before slipping away -- heading out of the mansion, as opposed to the stream of individuals coming in.

Ah. The... complication.

"Shall we mingle or simply remain as fixtures?" He asked, hoping to distract Claudius from Vespara's escape. "I see Davide making friends with the wall," he mused, giving a low chuckle. He was surprised Dante wasn't there with him, but he supposed the other would show up eventually. There were already faces he hadn't seen in some time, or at all, entering and the outgoing Vinny was eager to greet and say hello. . . and maybe make a few sales, as well.

Vespara had donned a beautiful black, crimson, and deep purple dress for the occasion. While she was accustomed to the parties Amadeo had thrown, this was the first where Augustus would be present. It was also the first time she had someone included in the invitation... While this was, primarily, a family affair, Vespara had requested a particular vampire be present. Perhaps it was a sign of just how serious she was regarding Regulus...

But why shouldn't she?

There were mortals among their own family members, and she had no doubt Regulus would be perfect company. Besides, perhaps if they saw him with her, the would know he was off-limits from being diablerized or turned into some wraith. It was a risk, certainly, but living life as a vampire didn't come without them. The other risk, of course, was that he might go running after spending a night in Giovanni close quarters. While she could certainly hide some things, such as her studies, and not letting him know any family secrets that he shouldn't know for the sake of the Clan.... She did want to share her unlife with him.

Besides, it wasn't as if there was anyone here who held a candle to Regulus in terms of holding her interest at this party. It was a big step, but Vespara was confident in herself, her choice, and in Regulus. She was studying to become a great necromancer, and while she was still a small fish in a large pond, she had drive and ambition. She would continue to prioritize her work for the clan, so the least she could do was have a nice night with Regulus.

Slipping through the crowd, smiling, nodding, and greeting famiglia as they passed, it didn't take her long to reach the gates. There he was, looking handsome as ever. "Buona sera, bello," she spoke, eyes lighting with pleasure. "Benvenuto!" She hurried over to him, bridging the distance between them eagerly. With him on her arm, the night would well and truly be perfetto. "I'm glad you could make it."

Surely, it would be a night to remember.

Tonight had been the talk of the clan lately, and Eloisa Puttanesca was living for it. The past weeks she had been hounding her entire family to make appointments at Killer Hair and Nails, and had promised to give them all updos to die for, manicures, pedicures, and any type of waxing they desired. She had been a busy worker, but she didn't mind -- she lived for it, and truly enjoyed her craft. Multi-talented, she was... She could break a man's kneecaps and give his wife a full dye-job all within the same afternoon, with hardly breaking a sweat or batting an eye. And the weeks leading up to this evening, Eloisa had been busy, much to her delight.

So it was, with the salon closed down, Eloisa had made sure she looked good. She wore a crimson and black dress, with a slit up to her hip, and a long, leopard print scarf that tied around her wrist, and draped loosely around her. Her hair was styled up to allow some ringlets to coil around and frame her face, and her makeup was impeccable, without a lash out of place. Her nails were new, each one crimson and adorned in intricate black detail. Gold and red jewelry adorned her ears, fingers, ankle, and neck, and her usual killer stilettos were red to match.

She looked good, she felt good, and she was ready to work it.

However, there was one particular individual she very much yearned to see. A particularly fetching gentleman, with beautiful grey eyes, dark hair, and who oozed charm ever so naturally. It was a wonder she hadn't driven him off by, well, being exactly who she was... and yet, Eloisa found him delightful. Around him, she didn't always have to be so loud, because when his eyes were on her, she couldn't help but feel seen.

Well.

Now he'd get to meet all her beautiful sisters. She loved them all, would kill for them, but part of her worried compared to them, she'd just seem loud and obnoxious. Nothing to be done about that, though. Eloisa had insecurities, but she also knew her worth and wasn't prone to fretting. All she could do was hope for the best.

Stepping into the mansion, she let her eyes sweep over the crowd. Thankfully, the famiglia hadn't packed in yet... and a striking figure caught her eye. There. Well. She wasn't shy and she wasn't about to become some demure violet just because they were at a party. He didn't look preoccupied, and while she didn't know exactly what the were, or weren't, she wasn't about to be any less friendly than she had been. He was new in town, after all.

"Saluti, Signore Machiavelli," she greeted cordially, warmly, striding over much as he had the first they met, hip sway and all. Perhaps he'd have others to mingle with, or important family affairs to tend to, but right now, she could at least say hello.

Regulus hadn’t been waiting long when Vespara appeared from the crowd. A smile parted his lips. He’d only taken a step when she cleared the distance between them quickly. Someone was excited to see him. He was excited to see her too.

When she had invited him to this family party Regulus was a bit wary of it. He knew little about the Giovanni plus this was her family. Which meant that her parents would be here she had told him. They had been spending more time with one another lately so it was only natural that all of that would lead to this. But he buried those nerves deep down inside and put on a smile for her. Placing a kiss at the corner of her mouth. If someone was watching he didn’t care. He wasn’t about to hide his feelings or affection for her.

“Good evening, Vespara.” He took her hand and kissed that to before he linked arms with her. This was a familiar position they typically took when together. One on the other’s arm. “You look molto carina tonight.” But Vespara could be wearing rags and she’s still look as lovely as ever. “Hopefully i haven’t missed much yet.” Cyan eyes watched her for a moment before his gaze turned towards the mansion. He had only even seen the outside but now he was actually going inside.

————-

And then she stepped out from the small crowd that had begun to gather. His eyes lit up as he took I’m her outfit and the way it hugged her body. That familiar wiggle of her hips as she walked. As she drew close, he took her hand, bowing slightly at the waist as he drew her knuckles close to his face. “ Buonasera, bella signora Puttanesca. I hope this evening finds you well?” His lips pressed against her knuckles before he released it. “I’m glad to see you could make it. The party was rather lacking until you arrived.”

Romeo shot her a charming smile. Stormy gray eyes looked over her formX taking in the curves of her body before he offered his arm to her. “If I may be forward would you accompany me for a while: if you have others to see I can understand.”

He knew what his role was being here. There were business deals to be made around every corner. Everyone had a price. But all of that could wait, right now his only focus was on her. He jerked his chin towards a male who seemed rather out of place among most d the family. Dark fur and long braids his clothing perhaps not quite as refined as those around him. “He’s the head of the Hidalgo family. From what I understand he hasn’t been to a family dinner in over a century. I suppose it takes Augustus waking up to really get the family to start crawling out of the wood work.” The Disciple awakening was a rather big deal so of course there would be those who maybe hadn’t been seen in years. Romeo wondered who else would be showing up tonight.

Acheron hadn't dared be late heading to the main part of the estate. No matter how much he would rather have been literally anywhere but here tonight, he would never even dream of disregarding Amadeo's instructions to be here. So, he took every precious last moment in his own quarters in a distant wing of the mansion to get as ready as he could. Making sure the new velvet ribbon tying his hair back was perfectly even. Not a white tress out of place. Spending extra time in the mirror to ensure his outfit was pristine.

Almost an after thought, he grabbed his rosaries to wrap his paw. It never quite felt right leaving without them, though he had no real connection to their mortal significance. Still, they soothed him, and despite having been scolded over and over for the way they jingled when he fussed with them as a child, he never really outgrew the habit. He simply learned to move them silently through his hands, feeling the well worn surface of each bead against his fingers.

It would certainly be a welcome comfort tonight. Not only would all of the family be gathering, it was going to be the first time Acheron would be in the same room as Augustus. Of course he knew that he had awakened. And of course, at Amadeo's suggestion, he made himself as scarce as possible. Which had led to him spending more and more time outside of the manor. But he couldn't just stay away from his home forever. With a last glance in the mirror, he left his room behind him, locking the door on his way out. Not that the simple lock would stop any of the immortal members of the Giovanni.

Putting on his perfected mask of a smile, he made his way to the indoor garden. He'd always loved it, even as a child. Some of his early hiding spots had been amongst the plants there. Hopefully he could will himself into his old mindset of existing to be neither seen nor heard, though he had a sinking suspicion that wouldn't last long. His bright blue eyes evenly scanned the others as they arrived. A few faces he recognized, as they were often around the manor. Many he did not. He did his best to keep his gaze level and keep his nerves tamped down. He refused to appear like the weak little orphan he once once, lost in the woods. This was his family, after all, whether or not he knew them.

Vespara beamed with pleasure as he leaned down to steal a small kiss, thrilled to have him here. If she wasn't in polite company, she would have deepened the kiss, but instead, she was left smiling She had plenty reasons to smile, of course. This was her home, her famiglia, and Vespara loved her clan dearly -- she'd do what she had to to keep them happy. But Regulus was important too, and tonight, she'd get to share this part of her life with him. Oh, she was well aware that they might get some looks, or wind up in some rumor cloud, but what family member wasn't part of some gossip chain? Besides, she didn't care... they would have a nice time tonight; of that, she was determined.

"Grazie, Signore, grazie," she spoke, the familiar flush feeling gripping her as he bussed her hand, and linked arms with her. "Quanto sei elegante," she complimented, giving him a long, admiring look. She'd never seen him in a suit before, and seeing him dressed up so was quite a sight. He was terribly fetching, in her opinion, and would fit in nicely. "Guests are trickling in, but it's still relatively quiet, all things considered. Shall we?" And with that, she lead him past the gates, slowly guiding him up the path and towards the main estate, her home.

To Vespara, the mansion was simply that -- home. She was, perhaps, a bit anxious to introduce him to Vinny and Claudius, but that would be their first stop. "This is an important night for our Clan," she explained as they walked, hoping to better enlighten him on what might come. "Admittedly, there are many here that are as unfamiliar to me as they are to you," she mused, peeking curiously at a few that they passed. Perhaps he'd fit in, after all. Could anyone really prove he wasn't somehow tied to the family or one of its clans? .... well, they'd cross that bridge if it came to it.

Vespara was in no great hurry, of course, now that Regulus was on her arm. Besides, it would give him a chance to look around, and admire the estate grounds as they made their way to the mansion. "Ah, but I forget myself.
How've you been, carino?" She asked, turning her attention back on him. They'd have all night to talk about la famiglia.

"Si, Signore--sto molto bene, grazie. Very busy, but very well. E tu? Have you and Echo fared well since we last parted?" Of course she would include his illustrious steed-- it was only polite, of course.

Eloisa's blue eyes all but sparkled as he bowed, and took her hand ever so formally. The kiss upon her knuckles, followed by the way his grey eyes drank in her form, would have sent her heart racing if it had been able to beat. Up close, he looked handsome as ever, and she couldn't help but admire him with pleasure. He knew he was a handsome man, and yet... he was all politeness and manners. Even his query had the sort of old-fashioned charm she had thought long gone from the world. "I would be delighted," she stated, offering a small curtsy. That's what one did, didn't they? Thankfully, she was a champ in tall heels.

Eloisa took his arm readily, tucking herself in close...but not enough to make him uncomfortable or any cause of gossip. They were ... well, she didn't know what they were, but she enjoyed his company, and not just because he was good looking. He was smart, clever, and never made her feel bad about herself or her loud everything. He certainly was a classy gent, but she was no slouch either-- even if she could throw down with the best of them. She liked him, and was glad to get to know him... in whatever capacity she was so allowed.

The news that he shared with her had Eloisa peeking at the dark skinned, dark haired family member. He certainly didn't look like any member of the family she'd seen recently, but then again, there were plenty here who were unfamiliar. Her eye brows arched in surprised, and she gave a laugh. "Is that so? It's certainly a sight to be seen," she mused. Augustus was all but a myth to Eloisa, so the fact he had awakened after all this time was huge news. Along with this part, it was all anyone could talk about. "Speaking of crawling out of the woodwork, how long ago was it since you were last at one of these parties?" She asked, giving him a teasing smile and a little nudge. "Though I am rather glad of it. I think it's good for us all to be under one roof, even for just a night." No matter what chaos might come of it.

He laid his free hand over top of hers as they walked slowly along the path to the mansion where her family were gathering. Regulus was in no rush to get there either, wanting to spend as much time with her before he was introduced tonher family. It would not surprise him if their reaction to him was negative. What parent wanted to like the guy who was dating their daughter? The male had been through it before so he was honestly used to it by now. But still the nerves were there.

“I have been alright. Not much to really speak of. But how have you been? I’ve missed you.” It was a genuine statement. He’d grown a great affection for her in the time they had been spending together.

His gaze left her for just a moment as he looked about the mansion grounds. It was all so….perfecr. Not a blade of grass or leaf was out of place. “So why is this night so soecial to your family?” He was curious about the why. It must have been something rather significant for all these people to gather like this.

—————

“Echo and I have been well. Busy of course, house duties and all. Luckily there hasn’t had to be much shuffling of the books. Which is always good. I’m glad to see you weren’t too busy to make it tonight. I had hoped to see you here and so suppose the universe heard me.” He stroked the top of her hand with his fingers idly.

Romeo laughed at her teasing queastion. “Ah, bella you have got me there. I would say just about the same amount of time as our eccentric friend over there.” He chuckled again, amused that she would call him out like that. He took no offense of course, it was all in good himour.

He lead her further into the mansion. Admiring the decor on the main mansion. It had changed of course since the last time he was here. Styles and tastes were fickle and often changed over the years. Of course, only the main house could rival the Machiavelli estate. At least that is what he believed. “How are your sisters? Your family well?”

Making their way towards the mansion, Vespara enjoyed the touch of his fingers atop her hand, and the feel of him by her side. There were plenty of places inside the mansion, and out, they could go... but she didn't dare until he'd introduced him to Claudius and Vinny.

When Regulus admitted he missed her, Vespara leaned against him. She hadn't expected him to confess such a sentiment, but it warmed her to know. "I missed you, too," she spoke, words gently affectionate. Was it too soon to be sappy? Vespara's pride warred with her deeper feelings. She was so used to being tough, and strong, and independent, that confessing her care made her a little unsure. Was it too soon to feel such care? Would he think less of her for having those feelings? Or would he be spooked away? ... he had said it first, of course--but Vespara couldn't help but want his approval.

She caressed his arm, still walking close with him, and let her worries subside. Tonight was meant to be perfect... and being with Reggie made it so. She could, and would, be herself around him, and that meant, letting him know she did miss him, she did care. She certainly thought about him enough when they weren't together.

His question about the celebration did allow her too think about something else. But how to explain it. "It's the the night we celebrate on becoming a Clan," she explained, albeit vaguely. "It's also chosen night we embrace new Giovanni. " She gave his arm a little squeeze and a small, teasing smile. "Don't worry though, carino, I didn't bring you here to convert you." She could imagine he might get cold feet if his imagination went wild-- meeting the parents, meeting the family, converting Giovanni.... It sounded suspicious, but Vespara's intentions were pure.

She just wanted another night with him.

Eloisa listened to Romeo while they walked, her attention fully focused on him and what he had to say. "I'd imagine there was much to be done with such a move. Did you bring many books with you? Or was the mansion already well stocked with its own library?" She wasn't trying to pry, but it was a valid question. He certainly seemed to be a man of deep thought and of good taste--of course he'd have a library that smelled of mahogany and had many leather bound books. Of course, another question spilled out before she could stop herself, "Do you and your Uncle plan to stay in the area long-term, bello, or... do you think you'll be on your way again in future, after all this?" She gestured the party with her free hand, her golden bracelets jingling slightly from the motion. She knew he had traveled the world, and seen much of it.... so it was very possible after a short stint here, they'd be on their way again. It seemed like a big move to make for such a short stay, but then again, the Giovanni were known for their extravagance. Why wouldn't they move an entire household for a weekend visit?

"Ah, mi dispiace, Signore-- My sisters' always say my mouth is going to get me in trouble," she mused, "And I'm afraid that well might be the case." Look at her, prying into his affairs like she had the right. Tch. Well, hopefully he would forgive her rambling queries, and focus on the mansion, and its assets.

Thankfully, there were other things to talk about and discuss, like her sisters. "Ah, my sisters and brother are indeed well, Signore. I have no doubt you'll see many of them here," she peeked around, trying too see if she could point out any, but alas, she seemed to be the first to have arrived indoors. Well, the night was still young. "What of you and yours? All is well, I hope? Is your Uncle here? Or others of the House?" She didn't actually recognize any of the Machiavelli's, besides the notoriety of their name.

When she spoke of missing him too, Regulus couldn’t help the smile that played on his lips. It sent a thrill up his spine and the hair on the back of his neck stand on end. Maybe it was too early in their relationship to admit such feelings. Some might certainly say so, but he was only telling the truth. With Vespara he didn’t have to hide how he felt. He enjoyed her company immensely.

Once he had finished glancing about the grounds around them his cyan gaze turned back to her. Admiring her lovely face as he listened to her explain why this day was so important to her clan. It sounded reasonable enough of an explanation, who wouldn’t want to celebrate such a thing. “I see. Well happy becoming a clan day?” Was that what you were supposed to say. Now that he said it it sounded pretty dumb. But it was practically the clan’s birthday.

He was amazed at all of those who had started to gather already. All of them looked so different from one another and some you could tell were related. Though he supposed that was the way it was in any clan. “Oh good although I would have been flattered if you had tried.” He chuckled. It was deep in his chest and rumbled. He honestly had no plans on joining any clan, at least unless there was a really good reason for him to do so.

—————

“I only take my favorite books with me when I travel, I don’t mind reading them multiple times. The problem is I have quite a lot of favorites so choosing amongst all of them can be difficult at times. I try to rotate them so each trip has a different set of booos to read.” Most of his books stayed at the estate. “Why yes, the library at the estate is rather large and has an extensive catalog of pretty much any book on any subject you would like. There are som especially hard to find books in the collection.” Romeo had grown up spending his time in the library the most when he was younger. Even now he felt comfort whenever he entered the enormous room with its thousands of shelves on multiple levels stuffed with books and scrolls. Romeo had contributed just about half of what was there.

An eyebrow raised as he shot her a charming smile. Was she trying to gauge whether or not he’d be around for a while. How clever. “My plans for now are to stay long term but who knows if something might pull me away for a while. Business you know.” Romeo had many business ventures, following in his uncle’s foot steps he had invested a lot into these businesses. “Of course, I could always find something that keeps me here indefinitely.” Reaching over he played a curled finger beneath her chin and lifted her face, gazing into her blue eyes with his own gray orbs. He shook his head. “No trouble at all.”

Romeo had left his Uncle last outside the mansion. Assuming he had some…special business with the head of the Della Passaglia family. Ever since he had returned from his visit he seemed a different man, perhaps lighter than what he used to be like. Something had obviously changed, but he wouldn’t pry. That would have been an abhorrent thing to do. Uncle Edon’s business was his own. “They are well. Uncle Edon is here, I believe he is talking with the Della Passaglia Elder. As for my aunt and brother I have not seen them yet but perhaps soon enough they will turn up. Until then I believe you are safe from getting the fifth degree.”

Vespara laughed at his response, and if she could have reached him, would have given a kiss for it. "Did you know you're adorable," she mused aloud, dual-colored eyes bright with mirth. "Felice giornata, davvero," she added with a smile. A very happy day, for plenty of reasons. Part of wondered if she should go into more detail, but she figured it wasn't important. He'd learn, one way or another--but tonight wasn't meant to be a lesson in history.

Vespara was well aware that her Clanless carino wasn't keen on he idea. She didn't know exactly what that meant for their future, but then again, their relationship was quite new. There was time to figure it all out, and she had no intention of upsetting what they had if she could help it. "This here is the Giovanni mansion," she explained as they reached the house. "There are other mansions and estates for other families, but this is the one is home for me." I was where she had grown up. There were plenty of memories in the estate -- from clambering into her parents arms for snuggles, to learning how to pin a man and all the areas to best shank him if he caused her trouble. She had followed Nonna around, and then Claudius; for a few years she even helped Vinny peddle insurance, but mostly just rode around on his shoulders.

Pausing in the entrance, Vespara scanned the crowd, looking for Claudius and Vincenzo. Were they still where she'd left them earlier? Or had they been swept up in some other conversation? "That's my cousin Davide," she nodded towards the blonde wallflower with the drink "He has a twin, Dante, somewhere out and about," she explained, just in case someone tried to trick. "That's Nonna," she pointed out the white-haired woman in the black dress. "She's one of the most important people here, so if you ever bump into her, treat her as such." She was also teaching Vespara the family trade, but....again, no need for such details yet.

Spotting Claudius across the room, Vespara knew it was close to time. "My father is also an important Clan member, kind of like Nonna. But don't worry. I'm sure both my fathers will love you," she added with a small laugh. Maybe she just hoped as much.

Eloisa appreciated that Romeo was such a bookish man. He had a passion for reading, clearly, which she could appreciate. While she herself didn't have as much time to read, that didn't mean she couldn't find pleasure in it. She'd read more than a few romance novels in her time, some of the classics, and plenty of biographies and memoirs. "I'm sure it's a beautiful library," she complimented, just trying to envision it in all its grandeur. "I'm not surprised at all to hear it has quite the collection. Perhaps you can show me, whenever I'm able to visit, or could read me a passage from one of your favorites." That sounded like a nice way to pass some of the night.

Eloisa was relieved when he didn't seem offended by her prying query. She tucked his answer away, trying not to peg too much on it. Business could very well keep him away from the area, or the excuse of business from her. He'd been so patient with her, she almost was certain she'd do something to grate on his nerves or drive him away. Still, she couldn't help but get lost in his stormy grey regard. His charm was just impossible to resist. "Grazie, Signore. I understand the call of business, and family affairs. We'll just enjoy your family's company while we're blessed with it." That sounded reasonable and safe... never mind, it was clear that it was Eloisa wanting to enjoy his company, in particular.

She was never very good at subtle.

"Well, should they show up, I promise to be on my best behavior, bello," she assured, blue eyes bright. "No gossip, no aura-readings-- promise!" And it was true. Eloisa knew she was a bit eclectic, but Romeo didn't seem to mind. However, that didn't mean the rest of his family would follow suit. "I'm not really sure what to expect tonight, but am glad to have had some time with you. I've no doubt you'll be popular this evening." And why wouldn't he be? He was from an illustrious and well favored family. He seemed unattached, and likely had business connections that others would wish to use or get involved in. Just getting to spend this much time with him was a delight in itself.

He laughed with a shake or his head. “Don’t let that get out it will ruin my reputation.” Not that he really had one, even so he was teasing anyhow.of course adorable wouldn’t be the kind of word he would use to describe himself in any capacity. But when she said it it was ok. She could call him whatever she wanted and if adorable was the word of the day so be it.

As they entered the mansion Regulua listed to her talk as she spoke about the mansion and how it was her home. And then she began to point out random people that were at this gathering. Just how important was her father? Reggie was only slightly curious. Making mental notes of each person she had pointed out.

Now she was looking around as of searching for someone. He could only figure she was looking for her parents. If he had blood still running through his veins the blood would be rushing in his ears. He smiled at her assumption that her fathers would love him right from the start. No father was every that way when it came to their daughters. You had to really work at getting them to like you. Sometimes it worked out on other times well, not so much.

Romeo smiled at her conplikent, even though she had not see lm the library yet. The Andillae was proud of that library, just as proud as he was of the faesteeds he helped train. The Machiavelli put his heart and soul into everything he did and when it succeeded and flourished he always felt a sense of completion. “I would like that very much. Though it will be hard to choose only one favorite so I am afraid your might may be filled with me reading.” He grinned, pearly white fangs slipping from beneath his lip as he ahot her a charming smile

It was interesting to him that she wanted to meet his family and spend time with them. Her interest had not gone l part of him wondered why she would enjoy spending time with them. Do get him wrong, his family was probably the least worst of the main families. It never occurred to him that she was looking for more time to wow s with him though. Just a little oblivious.

Romeo guided her towards the indoor garden. Noting the other person who was also here. He managed to stay far enough away for him, keeping Eloisa all ro himself. He chuckled as he lead her to a bench deep inside the garden and sat down, this seemed like a nice and private spot. “I doubt my family will have an issue with you and if they do then it is their loss.” He took her hand and missed her knuckles again, his lips lingering on the son flesh of her hand as gray eyes looked up at her. “And I am glad to have the time to spend with you as well bella signora Eloisa.”
