The river's water gently caressed the swimming kelpi. The koi-colored mare had decided to swim from her lake home as far as its branching river would carry her. She would pause now and again to check out the surrounding lands. As she swam, the forest gave way to plains, back into a forest, and now sand was beneath her hooves as she slowed to stand on the river's bed. Red eyes were held captive by the dazzling expanse of water in front of her. Mehira had no idea her little lake home emptied into the sea. Awed, she slowly padded her way from fresh to salty water. Her nostrils flared as she inhaled the new scents on the breeze. Bright sunlight began to warm her scales as her tail swished.
Something deep in her was vibrating with excitement. She wondered how far out she would need to be to no longer see land. Not that she disliked land. Her spirit just felt so much more at ease surrounded by water. The mare stretched her wing-like fins before galloping out of the river mouth and diving into the salty waters. A hum of delight escaped her as she hugged the ocean floor. Mehira's had picked up speed and before long the sand beneath her dropped off, leaving nothing but deep blue water as far as she could see. After a moment or two longer, the dappled female swam back up and jumped out of the water. Her little wing-like fins spread catching her and letting her glide for a moment. A happy smile was planted firmly on her face. Slowly she sank back into the water but instead of diving down merely tread where she was. Her eyes closed while a happy hum bubbled from her.
