He comes off as rather full of himself, very dramatic, and on the cruel side- however we also come to learn in the game that he loves humans, was once a ghost who wished he could be a human, and may have been upping his "villain" factor to make his friend, Alphys, look good. It's also been hinted that as a ghost he may have been a female ghost who took up a male robot body. His gender has often been a debate, though he is canonically male, he seems a bit fluid and happily wears dresses, plays traditionally feminine roles such as princess' etc. Dude is basically a lgbtqia+ anime loving theatre kid who was given a villain role and a TV show and went wild with it.
