🐺Woodland Pack🐺

The Woodland Pack, sometimes called the Nature Pack, is a reclusive yet formidable group of Garou residing deep within an ancient, sprawling forest. Known for their heightened senses and unparalleled agility, they blend seamlessly into their verdant surroundings. Members of the pack have fur ranging from deep brown to mossy green, offering perfect camouflage. They are fiercely territorial, protecting their home with unwavering loyalty. The pack is led by a wise and powerful alpha, whose strategic prowess ensures their dominance. Despite their fearsome reputation, they possess a deep respect for nature, maintaining a delicate balance within their forest domain.

The woodland pack of werewolves resides in an ancient, dense forest that feels both primeval and teeming with life. Towering trees with thick trunks and sprawling canopies create a perpetual twilight, allowing only dappled sunlight to filter through the lush foliage. The forest floor is carpeted with a thick layer of moss, fallen leaves, and the occasional burst of colorful wildflowers.

Paths through the forest are winding and often hidden, known only to the pack members. These trails lead to various parts of their territory, including secret clearings used for gatherings, training, and rituals. The air is filled with the earthy scent of damp wood, rich soil, and the freshness of growing plants. The sounds of rustling leaves, distant bird calls, and the occasional howl echo through the woods, creating a symphony of natural noises that the werewolves are deeply attuned to.

In the heart of the forest lies the pack's main encampment, a series of interconnected clearings surrounded by a natural barrier of thick underbrush and thorny brambles. The central clearing serves as the pack's communal area, with a large fire pit at its center for gatherings, storytelling, and celebrations. Around the clearing are various shelters, some built from woven branches and others using the natural hollows of ancient trees. These structures blend seamlessly with their surroundings, offering both protection and camouflage.

Beyond the forest, the terrain transitions into a dense, humid jungle, where the vegetation becomes even more lush and the biodiversity more varied. Here, the werewolves of the woodland pack navigate through a maze of tangled vines, towering ferns, and towering trees. The jungle is alive with the calls of exotic birds, the hum of insects, and the occasional roar of distant predators. Small streams and waterfalls are scattered throughout, providing fresh water and adding to the vibrant soundscape.

The woodland pack thrives in this environment, their keen senses and adaptability allowing them to move silently and swiftly through their territory. The forests are not just their home but also their hunting ground, sanctuary, and place of deep spiritual connection.

🐺Ranks🐺

Alpha: The leaders of the pack, usually a breeding pair of wolves who mate for life. In most wild wolf packs, parents are dominant over their offspring, which determines leadership positions.

Beta: The second in command, dominant over all but the alpha. This rank is typically reserved for the offspring of the alpha (and occasionally, their mates).

Delta: A slightly higher middle rank just under betas, deltas are relied upon to stay close to the alpha's den as protection, and chosen to lead smaller hunting parties when the alpha/beta are not around.

Sigma: One step up from omega, this is the typical rank of most werewolves in a pack. Their main duty is to protect the pack by scouting or guarding around the outer perimeter of the territory, as well as to diffuse tensions and minor hostilities within the pack.

Omega: The lowest ranking wolf, sometimes placed in this rank as a punishment for disrespecting the alpha. They are often tasked with watching over the packs' pups while the higher ranking wolves are off on a hunt, or doing menial tasks like cleaning dens or grinding bones.

Shaman: A special position within the pack that is mostly considered outside of rankings, without being above or below any other wolves, but just as respected as higher rankings would be. Shamans are trusted members of the pack, typically elders, who lead the pack's rituals and teach younger wolves how to prepare poultices and powders.

🐺Values🐺

The alpha is a calm and calculated wolf who may be perceived as weaker by other packs or tribe wolves. What they fail to realize is that she is plotting her next move and carefully weighing her options and their possible outcomes. Kiche will never rush into a confrontation or dangerous situation, and expects her pack members to hold the same level headedness, regardless of circumstance. While she has patience for younger wolves who are still learning, she will quickly put a Garou back into their place if they put her pack in peril. Woodland wolves typically (though not always) could be considered down-to-earth, level-headed, and generally choosing peace over violence when possible.

Woodland wolves respect nature for its gifts of life and death, spiritually and magically connected to the earth. They will only kill exactly what they need to survive and no more. Always mindful, they refuse to waste any part of the carcass and find a use for each piece, to honor the sacrifice made by their prey. Any members caught needlessly slaughtering animals for sport are punished by the pack.

The Woodland Garou consider themselves to be the oldest pack of werewolves and the first created by Lykourgos - whether this actually holds true has never been proven. Still the legend persists among Woodland pack-members, and is passed down to younger wolves to instill in them a sense of pride for their lineage and pack.

🐺Rituals🐺

The Woodland Pack of werewolves performs various rituals deeply intertwined with nature and the moon's cycles.

One such ritual is the Full Moon Feast, where the pack hunts under a full moon, bonding and honing their skills. After the kill is made, the pack gathers together like a family, each of them working together to prepare a meal, drinks, and a fire. This feast is held every full moon to keep the pack close to one another, and to keep track of members.

Another is the Forest Festival, a seasonal ceremony where they offer gifts to their deities, such as animal bones or woven plant materials, to ensure harmony with their environment. Garou pray to their chosen god or demi, asking them for blessings of strength before a great battle or hunt, or fertility when the pack goes into rutting (breeding frenzy). Thus, this is a ritual performed 'as needed' and not on a schedule.

Every autumn comes the Harvest Moon. When the leaves change and air chills, the werewolves gather together to harvest their crops during the day, and by the light of the full moon they cook and eat a small feast together. Recently caught prey-meat is smoked and salted to preserve it, and the pups watch and learn the method. This is a time of celebration for the entire Woodland Pack, not just of the changing of seasons but to thank the gods and goddesses for their plentiful harvest for the year, which will keep them fed thru the winter months as meat becomes scarce.

Twice each year, during the end of winter/start of spring, and again at the end of summer/start of autumn, the Rutting begins. Male Garou become more aggressive and tend to hunt more often or spar with one another to release pent up energy or show off for a she-wolf. Female Garou begin experiencing a desire for companionship, though it is up to each she-wolf if she takes the male for a single night for the sake of bearing pups, or as a lifemate. Male wolves will puff up their fur to appear larger and more intimidating, and adorn their bodies with shiny rocks and feathers to attract a female Garou. While it is typically the male that does the wooing as the female passively observes to decide if she will accept him..she is the one who holds all of the power in this situation. Should she decline his advances, he is expected to move on with another female or give up. A male who relentlessly pursues an unwilling she-wolf will face the wrath of the alpha, and risk banishment from the pack. Some Garou may be unaffected by rutting season for one reason or another (OOC: it is not required for your Garou to breed or seek a mate).

The Alpha's Rite is a challenging trial for those vying for leadership, involving endurance tests and wisdom trials. This can occur when an alpha has been missing (inactive) for a long time. Interested wolves can make a challenge against one another, and in the end the one who conquers the rest is named the new alpha.

Night of Ancestors is a solemn gathering where they honor fallen pack members, sharing stories and lighting fires to guide their spirits. This is an annual event, but any time a pack member passes on, a fire will be lit and a small celebration be held in their honor. The event is held between the end of November and the first week of December, with individual events happening when necessary.
