"The Everett-Maris family is still mostly at the hospital. Young Zeigmus is still there." A woman reported in a dim office. Another man spoke. "Good, Gainsborough should be well out of immediate danger, keep Xaris up to date that we are prioritizing the safety of her child. We'll need our best on site operatives acting at their best." The woman and man then focused their gaze on their director. "Are you sending Rieko?"
The director blew smoke across the room. Rays of light beamed through the window and streaked through the exhaust. "Yes, it's what she's best at." The man snuffed the remainder of the cigarette in the ashtray, "President Breowitz attempted to warn them." He took a few sheets of paper, a holographic display giving him a tactical display of the city of Eden. Beyond the ones sent to help Esthar, there should still be a reasonable defense force to avert the worst of the catastrophe.
It was a beautiful day in Eden City. Birds were singing, flowers were blooming. It was on days like this you knew it would be hell.
A flock of Thrustaevis were not so strange. But this was more than a flock of the birds. The skies went dark as swarms of them seemed to flood the skies from nowhere, and worst several large Elnoyle's were snuck into them. The alarms were called, and at first standard defense formations were being called.
That all changed when the first Iron Giant stepped out of the water and onto the pier of the city, swinging it's cleaver through a building in construction, sending people running for their lives. It was now that Nona took personal helm of the situation. She had kept herself up for far too long expecting something like this. But the culprits hadn't made a appearance like she suspected they would, which leaned towards someone who knew extremely well what they were doing or someone insane enough they didn't care for the recognition. Both were dangerous.
Reports were flooding in. "Malboro in the south district! It's the largest that God has ever seen!" "Iron Giants in east quadrant, I've never seen so many!" "Ruby Dragon in the north! We need reinforcements, this thing is too strong!" "Behemoth in west district, ma'am. It's smarter than normal, it's also put Mighty Guard and Regen up, prepare everyone for a meteor!"
Life was tough for the president. She began to bark commands at her staff, orders to bring order to chaos. "Ground troops, establish barricades and evacuate citizenry to Garden Shelters. All Rank-3 SeeD, you are hereby on duty. Eliminate any and all Rank C and D monsters and direct civilians to evacuation points. Rank-2 SeeD, you are hereby on duty and you are to perform rescue operations in immediate crisis points. Rank-1 SeeD, you are hereby on duty, seek and destroy all Rank A and B monsters. All First-Class SeeD you are hereby on duty, you are allowed to perform at your own discretion to maximize efficiency!" SeeD and Military squad officers immediately began receiving organized plans of routes and proposed deployment zones.
"Agent Zeigmus, Honorary Agent Vicaria. You two are known to be on site in Eden City and Unita. I need the pair of you to deploy and cooperate with the city defenses to fight off these monsters. I simply need them dead, which is your specialties." The Director tilted his tone like he was asking them to do this, but it was really a order. "Each of your children are out of the immediate combat zones, but their positions will be kept updated if you ever wish to ensure their safety."
The director looked to the rest of the staff. "I want status reports on the conditions of the best defenders the city has. Let me know when they're tired, beaten, and worn down. Then we'll show them a new surprise."
Time and again each of the Sorceresses within the city could feel a ping on their senses as once and again a new threat seemed to materialize out of nowhere. Rem would find it oddly familiar, as would Lisanna and Salem. All was clear.
Eden City was under attack.

Raeka Everett-Maris
Status: Paralyzed, it seemed. Location: Gainsborough Hospital.
____________________________________________________ When the sky darkened, the eagle eyed Raeka was one of the first to notice it. His hand immediately went to his side for one of his guns but, well, of course they weren't there. Well, that was okay. He could definitely fight something off if it came into his room as long as he focused on it. Bashing something with the door or a utensil in the room would... would...
It didn't set in for a moment, but the cold realization that actually, no. He was defenseless. Without his weapons, all he had was his stocked magic from Cerberus. Would it even be as powerful as it was before, or would it be pitiful? For the first time in a long while indecision set in, which fed into anxiety, which began to feed into fear. He didn't so much have a knife or a scalpel to let him fight. Could he even be a SeeD anymore?
He blinked a few times. Feeling smaller and smaller in his bed. In this hospital room, which all of a sudden began to feel like a prison. He began to stare at the window blankly, watching the chaos outside ensue. ____________________________________________________
☠☠╰▷╮The dream I once had is no longer the dream I desire. Koyuki ☠ Vicaria "I will forge a path to the future with my blade. No man, woman, or monster will get in my way. For I am the rider of the storm."
Koyuki had always wondered when Unita would have to face a threat such as this. In Trabia, there was the occassional monster hordes, but nothing to such an extreme like this. Several level 100s in one place. It had to be one thing. A lunar cry. When she received the order, she couldn't help but laugh a little. "Well, I guess Hell has finally come to your home Nona. I wonder, how will you react to the loss of life here after so many years of peace?" She thought, amused by this situation. The loss of life hardly even bothered her, having very little care for the civilians here. "Well, as always. It falls on a Trabian to hunt. Right Riyel?" She muttered to herself, gently stroking the handle of a gunblade that was strapped to her side, dawning a brand new Dragoon Armor with the Galbadian and BIE emblems on her shoulder plates; standing over on a roof besides Xaris observing the events that played out. Picking up the transmissions of where each major threat was located, Koyuki glanced to Xaris who was taking position with her. "We should hunt the iron giants. They'll do the most damage with those numbers." She suggested, for once not taking charge. Xaris agreed with her, nodding. "I agree. Let's go."
And the two were off. Both of them summoning their GFs, Koyuki, summoning Ixion in particular, hopping on their back while Xaris held onto the back of Diablos shoulders. With the two of them making it to the East district, the Iron Giants were making a mess of things, their blades powerful enough to smash through even the most durable material with their raw strength alone. Neither of them had seen so many, like a squadron of knights. Thankfully this district was more or less evacuated, and Xaris had no issue taking the lead on this one. Flying up high to get a good look at the horde of iron giants, Xaris held her hand out towards them. "Gravija"
The spell struck the center of the horde, expanding outward as gravity twisted and imploded on them, all of them feeling their armored bodies crack and break, bringing them down to their weakest. Koyuki, having dropped off of her mount, had Ixion charged forward into the mass, casting Thundaga on the first iron giant it came across, completely disintegrating it while slamming forward into another with its horn, shattering through the iron giant like it was nothing more than ceramic. Xaris, joining Koyuki by her side, was dropped off by Diablos, who also came charging into the fray, clawing his way through the horde with swift furious strikes. Despite their efforts though, it was wave after wave of iron giants that were coming, and though the initial gravija was helpful, it wasn't wide enough to hit all of them, mainly the backline as more came stepping out from the ocean, replacing their numbers.
Together, both Koyuki and Xaris readied their weapons. For Koyuki, it was the gunblade. No one had seen her use such a thing before, and in truth, she wouldn't have known how to use it if not for one important factor. She remembered the lessons she had gotten from Riyel, and speaking of the man, the gunblade at her side had been engraved with the words Titan's Edge. A custom built gunblade that was once Riyel's. Where had she gotten it? Well, it merely required a trip back home. She had kept it locked in her cabinet back at her office. It was a gift from Lloyd long ago, in an effort to help Koyuki. She initially had merely kept it out of sight, not wanting to be reminded of the pain she lost, but now, she wielded it comfortably at her side, an extention of the man she loved.
For Xaris, she loaded up her pistols with lightning rounds, and with the horde approaching, she began to open fire. "Haste!" Her body sped up, and her gunfire quickly shifted from simple quickshots to rapid machine-gun fire. Koyuki charged forth towards one of the iron giants under the cover of Xaris, gunblade in hand as she scraped the blade across the ground, leaping forward into one of the iron giants as it attempted to strike down on her. Koyuki, however, was far faster than the giant, and slashed her blade up across the giant's chest, pullling the trigger as she did so, causing a burst of lightning to explode across it and kill it immediately. The next iron giant that stepped up to her, managed to get a full swing off down vertically towards her, intending to smash her into the ground. Koyuki, mananging to evade the strike by jumping aside to the monster's right side while Xaris came and shot it from the left, causing the creature to faulter and give Koyuki the chance to leap up and behead the giant.
But more were coming, stepping forward, striking and attacking Diablos and Ixion in numbers. Despite their durability and strength, the raw power of a iron giant was deadly, and they both were definitely taking the brunt of the damage while Xaris and Koyuki were attempting to weed out the horde.
"Riyel, my love, I will brandish my weapon in your name. For my Children. For my Garden."
☠☠╰▷╮Amidst the eternal waves of time, from a ripple of change shall the storm rise. Xaris ☠ Zeigmus "The demon soars through dark skies Fear and death trail its shadow beneath Until men united wield a hallowed sabre In final reckoning, the beast is slain."
Out of the abyss peer the eyes of a demon. Behold the Razgriz, its wings of black sheath.╭ ◁╯☠☠ "As the demon sleeps, man turns on man His own blood and madness soon cover the earth From the depths of despair awaken the Razgriz Its raven wings ablaze in majestic light."

Twang!
Not one, but two arrows flew through the air, shattering a pair of clay Bombs launched across the green! The gathered audience cheered and applauded, and one girl even knew how to do that really-loud-cheer-whistle! Celebrations for the Concert were almost all shut down now, but Nyale could still do her own performance. She had a soccer green to herself, with a couple of Unita staff members to launch her targets, and audience in the bleachers.
Among them, her friends! Rem, Yukiko, and Kalen had the highest seats; the best to see from, of course.
Rem went through the motions of applauding, watching without seeing. It had been a bad couple of days. Even with a single day of peace to let Unita think its troubles might have passed, Rem had been withdrawn even once released from the hospital. She did little. Kalen had to drag her out of the house to come see Nyale.
Her gaze wandered, as it had all day. Out beyond the sea wall. Out to the sea and sky. Clouds rolled across the blue. And flickering among the clouds…motion? Rem watched the first thrustaevi emerge from the cloud cover.
Then more.
And more.
Darkening the skies.
Rem stood, staring up at the clouds whorling above Eden City.
Sirens shrieked across the city. In the distance, a flash and a curl of smoke spoke to something striking the sea wall. An enormous hand reached above it and grasped the top of the wall, hauling a towering shape over it.

It was the day of her archery display for the Concert, and Ny couldn't have asked for better weather. Sunny, clear skies, no wind, it was perfect.
For the first time in the last few days she finally felt relaxed and untroubled. The display was an excellent distraction from the recent events and worries that had plagued her thoughts, and the girl was pleased with her performance thus far, having shot every target perfectly.
A sizeable crowd filled the seating area, enjoying the show and trying to stay cool in the warm air. Although she knew some of her friends were also in the audience she kept her focus on the targets in front of her. Ny was dressed simply for the event in a plain white cotton shirt, cinched in at the waist by a brown leather corset and with matching bracers on her wrists to protect from the snap of the bowstring, and black trousers tucked in her laced up boots. Her long white hair was pulled back into a practical yet elegant bun.
After her next turn shattering the clay bombs launched into the air, to the satisfying cheers and whoops of the crowd....Ny suddenly feel a strange, ominous feeling wash over her. Something was triggering her all her senses. Lowering her bow the girl paused and glanced around, features drawing into a suspicious frown. Something isn't right...
The sky began to darken above, and sirens blared.
People began to scream...
"Oh no...that's really not good..." She breathed, amber eyes widening in horror at the sight of the Iron Giant hauling itself over the sea wall. More monsters began to appear from all around, invading the soccer green and sending the increasingly panicking crowd running as they fled from the stands. Ny cursed as a red bat dived towards her, and luckily having her bow to hand instinctively shot it just in time, the thing landing with a thud behind her.

Azdaja Draak
Status: Good. Location: In the streets.
____________________________________________________ Draak seemed to be giving the whole 'monster invasion of Eden City' with a very lackadaisical demeanor. Huh. Y'know I never thought of how a non-trabby city would react to a big monster attack. There was a bit of bemusement at the reaction of the city. The response tactics, the civilian numbers, the structural integrity to defend. Draak had been used to defending the Trabian settlements from monsters, but stopping such attacks in a steel jungle...
He would have to learn. At least that's what he thought until he heard the orders come through. The rest of his squad was still back in Trabia, so he just defaulted into squad leader for he himself and I. With a proper team of three, he listened to the first reports and headed towards west district.
So far the Behemoth had literally torn through several buildings, and in so far there was wider spread damage being done as meteors crashed unto the earth from the heavens. He took a moment to look at the interaction with the beast. First-Class and A Ranks, as well as Esthar machines attempting to corral the beast. Keep it contained until it could be taken down.
Out of his pay grade. Watching the fin of a fastolicon go by, he saw a bladed boomerang pin the creatures fin to the side and rip it out of the ground. Next a young gunblade specialist of Esthar's colors finished off the creature. "Hey, hey, hey, kiddos. Ya'll know where the nearest evac center is?" "Uh, yeah. What was the ice hockey rink two streets over." "Roger that, thanks." "Why is he calling is kiddos he's like the same age." "No time, we got a job to do." "Aye, cap."
With a lazy wave goodbye he turned and went along blindly looking for someone to help or a mid level monster to slay. However that didn't take long as a explosion set a building ablaze, and civilians inside began to scream for assistance. Literally leaping into action, his special made boots made jumping even up to thirty feet vertically a easy feat.
Time to get to work. ____________________________________________________

Kiss me good-bye, love's memory Follow your heart and find your destiny Won't shed a tear, for love's mortality For you put the dream in my reality
The day had been going well, at least in comparison to the days prior. Kalen had finally been given the chance to rest and relax, enjoying being around his friends and family again. It was an interesting time to say the least. The day prior had been spent going through events with his sisters, seeing people he hadn’t seen in years and months. It was cathartic. It was…a reminder, that this was what he had been missing while out exploring the world and writing his books. The livelihood of the people that inhabited UNITA had continued to flourish and grow despite his absences, though it was apparent none had held that against him. If anything it was more endearing now, old store owners had been showering him with hugs, praise, and even asking for him to sign copies of his works. Humbling was too small scale of a statement. Kalen had been more than happy to sign whatever and hug whomever while seemingly reliving the memories of his youth. UNITA has really flourished… he thought, buying things here and there for Nyale, Rem, and Yukiko if they asked. It was the least he could do.
Memories flooded him of his youth, as UNITA and specifically Eden City, had started to flourish. The times of living in essentially a shack, as Nona and Lloyd worked to bring a country from nothing to grandeur had taken many years. Hiding from giant monster assaults, living with the bare basics even in his junior years, had allowed Kalen to grow up in a more old fashioned manner that others were used to. It was honestly half the reason Rem and Nona had to force him to keep a phone despite his reluctance. Nothing could strip away the love of the bare necessities that he had aged with, even as UNITA began to take its stature in the geo political sphere of the modern day. The same bare necessities that he observed the same shop keepers and cooks, as well as other tradesman, had all come up through as well to find success despite their circumstances.
Now though, he had been sitting with his sisters watching as Nyale shot her bow. Kalen seemed to be relaxing in the sun, his eyes closed while waiting for his friend to take her shot. Shes just going to beat everyone, it’s not much of a surprise. He thought, opening as she took her shots. Of course they were masterful. Kalen applauded with others just as the initial attacks began to take place. Shadows of the overhead avians came and flooded the skies, Iron Giants began to scale the sea wall. Once more, the Concert was being usurped by outside forces, this time causing a true reason for pandemonium and terror. ”s**t!” he swore, pulling out his revolver and blasting some of the flying creatures that drew close. His shots rang true as they cut through the body and wings of the oncoming attackers, his phone ringing as Rem, Yukiko, and Nyale began to form up together.
Direct word from his mother and Aunt Selphie. You are not safe. Head for the shelter. Let the SeeD and Forces take care of it.. The words of his mother infuriated him, Kalen wanting to stay and fight too. But then Nyale, Rem, and Yukiko even told him off, saying that he wasn’t able to handle the kind of fighting they were about to do. These were his friend and little siblings! They had the audacity to tell him off?! Not that it mattered, as Selphie had sent Babel…the cursed woman, to escort him to the shelter as others began to fight. Babel hadn’t even done her regular routine with him, thankfully, as she sped off to do whatever it was that was needed. This left Kalen with a group of families in a shelter by himself as the world rumbled and the sounds of fighting filled the area like a symphony of devastation. Powerful attacks were the instruments of the chaos and Kalen could only sit there and listen as it shook the shelter.
He should have continued his training. Maybe he should have committed to finding a Guardian Force that would support him properly and give him the strength he needed to fulfill his manifest destiny. All he knew now was that he was sitting here alone, weapons sheathed, as his little siblings and best friend fought.
I’m failing here.

Yukiko had been happily watching Nyale perform her archery for the concert, finding her prowess with her light manipulation to be quite impressive. She had decided to remain in the VIP section with Rem and Kalen, having a bit of paranoia with being near the civilians. She had noticed periodically the idle glares towards her direction and her Trabian symbol. Her mother really had screwed her here, that was certain. Even so, she ignored it, staying near the people who appreciated her company. Though, these peaceful events had proven to be short as the sky began to darken in an overcast across the city. At first she didn't know what she was looking at, but as she squinted and looked up, her eyes widened and she shouted to all of the civilians around her. "Run! Get to safety!" And then immediately took her LMG out from her back, switching off the safety and pulled the trigger. Everyone around Yukiko would hear the thunderous boom of her gun as it fired out at high velocity up into the sky, a hailstorm of bullets rapidly feeding through the gun and scattering around her with the tip of her gun turning a bright orange, the heat of the gun leaving steam from every gunshot that rang out. "Kalen get out of here! This is way too much for you! RUN!" She was demanding it, not even giving her elder brother a chance to argue as she kicked him in the back, forcing him to get out of the way as a bat came smashing into the seating next to them, Yukiko rolling back and pivoting towards the creature, sprinting forward and unsheathing one of her arm blades, tearing right through the monster. From his perspective, she was a full on soldier in this moment, her militaristic upbringing and training paying off as she was quick to switch back to her gun.
Selphie, who had been in the section with Irvine had seen Kalen nearly get turned into a pancake by a bat, quickly got up and ran over to Kalen, hurrying and helping him up. "I know you want to help. But you need to get out of here. You are not prepared for this kind of battle. I don't need your mothers freaking out on me!" She said sternly to Kalen, looking over to Babel and shouting at her. "BABEL! VARITAS! ESCORT KALEN TO SHELTER! THEN TAKE OUT BIG THREATS!"
Like clockwork the two did just that, Babel leaping over to Kalen and Varitas drawing his blade, leaping up and over the seats as several bats came swarming down to attack them. Cutting through them like paper, he motioned Babel to move, and, whether Kalen liked it or not, Babel was going to have him move. "Sorry dear. I am going to have to force you this time. This isn't a fight for you, who only dabbles in combat." He was going to need much more support than this, and they were going to be incredibly busy now. The entire Trabian First Classes all began to separate, Selphie and Irvine making their way towards the Behemoth, Babel and Varitas dropping Kalen off and making their way to the Malboro, and lastly Tsitsho and Tori made their way towards the Ruby Dragon.
==================================
Mai had remained at the hospital, having taken one of the Resident's beds to sleep in while she guarded Raeka. Despite her initially being pissed and angry with everything that happened up till his eventual awakening in the hospital, she had managed to calm down and just look after him. She could tell he was struggling to be okay with his predicament, to feel trapped in his own body.
Yeah, this was shitty.
Etamara had been called in to also perform protective duties, and for her credit, she did not make Raeka feel bad for losing his sorcery, and instead merely performed any music he wished to hear if any. She may have had an ego, but even she knew better than to be cruel to her Mentor's son.
But, the peace didn't last, and the hospital alarms soon blared causing a panic in all the hosptial staff. Mai jerked up from her nap, gasping as her AI began to get to work, analyzing the situation. Her orders were coming in quickly, and though the basic was to protect civilians, her priority was Raeka, as was Etamara's. Both of them armed themselves up, preparing with the hosptial staff to protect the patients. Etamara stationed herself outside of the hosptial, performing her music for the forces that came out to help defend the hosptial. Many were surprised to find her abilities were helpful, her buffs applying to people, giving them a sense of strength and morale that increased their performances. Mai took position in Raeka's room, aiming with her rifle out of the window and taking shots at the many monsters rushing in the streets, attacking people.
"s**t! s**t! s**t!" She was swearing it up as she took shots out the window, her bullets ripping and tearing through the bats that came, along with swarms of bite bugs. The swarm came at Mai, and she glared with annoyance, reaching into her pocket and throwing out a white crystal, causing it to flash and explode in the midst of the swarm, blinding them. She then smashed the window out and readied her pistol, opening fire on them as they tried to get close and into the room.

Rem was the only one not to tell Kalen to flee. In fact, Rem hadn’t done anything. People ran. Friends fought.
The Princess stood watching her world crumble.
Someone screamed nearby. Saw the flash of red and violet as a crimson bat the size of a puma descended on an older man and the young woman trying to help him down the stairs of the stands. He fell when the bat swooped in, tearing at arms and faces! The flapping fiend circled ‘round to harry its prey.
BANG
The beast fell. Up in the stands, Rem stood with pistol in-hand. She stared down at the revolver she held. It was one of a set- a pair made on commission from her brother. Thoughtless, hopeless, she still found herself with her brother’s gun in her hand.
She broke into a run!
Amid the thunderous reports of Yukiko’s machine gun, an actual bolt of lightning streaked through the sky! The last of the swarm of red bats Yukiko was firing exploded into smoking gibbets! At the bolt’s origin was Rem Nipal, in her SeeD uniform best, hand still outstretched.
”Yuki! Ny! With me!”
—
SKREEEEEE
The borrowed truck’s tires squealed as Rem brought it to a sideways stop! A couple of MPs and a handful of civilians climbed out the back, headed for the shelter down the road. The truck and several other abandoned vehicles obstructed this street, which was lined by two-story buildings in a long, straight avenue leading toward the center of the city. Above, clouds of bats and birds and worse besides still swarmed over the city. But here, with a narrow neck and only one direction to approach, the creatures on the ground would get no benefit from their numbers.
Out of the driver’s seat climbed Rem.
”Nyale, on the rooftops. Watch the sky and give us fire support. Yukiko, that balcony runs all the way around the building- get a good angle and rain Hell,” she directed her sisters-in-arms to the best vantage points for their talents, putting her intimate knowledge of Unita to use. She’d found them a bottleneck where even a few low-ranked soldiers could hold against a larger force.
Of course, that left only one person to hold the ground level. Rem slid a spare bullet into Lied’s empty chamber and slammed it closed. She stood watching the street they’d come down. Wouldn’t be long. Breathe. Her heart was going too fast. Slow, steady breaths. She gave one last sniffle before wiping at her face with her sleeve. Fighting the urge to cry, she put her hand over her heart and reached into that flowing river. The steady, regular river she remembered- the one which had always been there when she reached for magic. It’s what everyone felt…right?
”Protect. Shell,” she recited, wrapping herself in swirling shields of coruscating blue and green before they faded from sight. Unseen, but felt.

More and more monsters came, swarming the skies. There's too many, and I'm exposed out here Ny thought, her concern rapidly mounting. The few UNITA staff members who had been helping her with her targets on the field had quickly fled, joining the evacuating civilians, so there was no one left on the green but her. She dived out of the way of another bat and fired off an arrow, pinning its lifeless body to the ground. Then she turned towards the bleachers where she knew Rem, Yuki, and Kalen were and sprinted across, dodging the swooping attacks of the bats. She arrived just in time to see Kalen being escorted away by Babel, which confused her as much she also felt relieved. She knew he was a proficient fighter, but technically he was also a civilian and in an attack of this magnitude Ny wasn't sure how he would fare. One thing she did know, however...
He's going to hate being removed from the action.
She hoped he wouldn't feel too badly about it.
At the stands Yuki was already doing her part taking out monsters with a vicious, ruthless efficiency that was very impressive to Ny. The girl ducked as Rem then proceeded to explode the remaining bats with a huge bolt of lightning, trying to avoid the smoking body parts that rained down. "...gross!"
She gave a sharp nod at Rem's order, happy to let her friend take charge and direct her in this situation, and took off after the redhead.
~~~~~~~~
One short but terrifying truck drive later they arrived at a blocked up street and skidded to a dramatic stop. Trying to ignore the nausea caused by Rem's emergency driving Ny hauled herself out of the back and began to help the civilians out. When the last one was out and on their way to the shelter she turned to Rem again with an expectant look, giving a swift nod at her next command. "...you got it." Her feathery wings flared into existence and she took off, taking a mere moment to land on the rooftop of one of the two story buildings. She didn't want to be in the air any longer than necessary with this amount of flying monsters around.
The bottleneck seemed like a smart plan from Rem, and Ny was ready to support from above and determined to keep her friends safe. She summoned her GF and her magic bow and arrows, tossing aside the normal wooden bow she'd been using for the display. Like Rem she quickly cast Shell and Protect, feeling the defensive spells settle over her body.
Movement caught Nyale's eye at the end of the street, a large and hazy cloud of insect monsters rapidly approaching from the air, their buzzing becoming more audible as they were naturally funneled down the bottleneck towards the group. On the ground a dozen or so Geezards rounded the corner and began to scuttle their way down the street, making Ny grimace at the sight of their weird faces and pincers.
"Hey girls, we have Bite bugs and Geezards incoming! Close your eyes for a moment please!" She called out to the other two from her position on the roof, warning them ahead of what she was about to do which was throw out a blast of white light in the middle of the street, to disorientate the monsters vision. She then began rapid firing arrows to take down as many of the overly large bugs as possible.
"Aw, the prodigal son is stuck in the back? Unfortunate. I understand though, it seems for the best."
There had been some disturbances in the back lines, monsters getting through the lines and a request for people who could fight to come out of the shelter and keep them at bay. Disillusionment and disappointment had been sitting on his consciousness while families sat worried, some crying in fear. A few looked at him for some kind of inspiration, considering his status among the UNITA population and he tried his best, checking on people as they held their loved ones, their children, and caused his stomach to just twist into knots as he looked around. Some were hurt, some were just simply terrified. Why did this have to happen? Again, it ran through his head, fists clenched tight. The past two few days had been nothing short of a nightmare, these issues seeming to escalate to today. It all felt...orchestrated. By who, he had no idea, but this felt like a vendetta or a plot against, if not UNITA, the world. "It's going to be okay, you all just hang tight." That same sentence he repeated ad nauseum at this point. What else was there to say? There were giant beasts out there and people fighting their best to keep them all at bay within the city. But apparently, there were some breaking through.
The announcement for volunteers to hold the final line for monsters that were breaking through was announced, Kalen's head turning towards the doors with a few younger SeeD asking the uninjured and capable. He pursed his lips, looking behind at the people, some looking up at him. If I don't do this, they'll lose faith. Not that it would take much for him to do the right thing, but it was here at this moment he got a taste of understanding of what Nona, Rem, and others went through in moments like this. Said understanding washed over him, a wave of strange guilt following. Here he came, wanting to be strong for his family and they were already better than him and more adept than him in many ways. They were all trained and ready for this kind of situation, this kind of highly stressful cataclysmic event. If he came up face to face to actually fight an Iron Giant or Marlboro versus observing them from afar, would he even be able to react or just be killed as he stood in fear and awe? All that monster studying did not translate into a scenario like this. Perhaps his return was just all talk... The pit in his stomach grew as he shook it off, a look of defiance growing on his face. I'm not weak.
"You got me."
Quickly he maneuvered outside, brushing past people as some of the Trabian and UNITA SeeD seemed surprised at his volunteering. Trabian SeeD always seemed to give way to him, always acting odd, and the UNITA knew him since he was a wee lad but this was a scenario that had never been predicted to occur, and the son of the ex-headmaster and adopted son of the President, the civilian book writer, sticking his neck out like this was surely a morale booster to the civilians, if not to them. Kalen nodded to them as he came out and unclasped his revolver and wakizashi, sucking in a deep intake of air as he stepped out to see the chaos, monsters in the distance roaring and screaming; explosions rocking the background of buildings as Guardian Forces and SeeD assaulted the oncoming beasts. It was chaos. His hand shook nervously at the insanity that was unfolding around him, the fresh manuscript of hell being written before his very eyes. There was no turning back now, and Kalen did not know how to step down. "Breathe, breathe, breathe..." he whispered, fingers tapping against the blade on his hip as others took a line of defense. It was a few hundred feet ahead of the shelters and Kalen stood with some of the new SeeD and civilians.
A few monsters were breaking through, some of the SeeD getting to them fast before they could amass. Kalen even helped stave off a few Bats. It was good to have them here and he understood that. It was more a just in case scenario if anything.
CLICK CLACK
The loud footsteps of boots slowly made their way up to Kalen, who stood at attention facing the perimeter. A stranger in a suit made his way to stand next to the prodigal son, wonderboy as a Sorceress called him, two tonphans in hand covered in various monsters blood. Obviously he had been beating them to death, almost in a more visceral and brutish way with the blunt objects. His eyes were glazed, a nonchalant smile plastered on his face as he whistled coming up next to the blonde boy.
"Aw, the prodigal son is stuck in the back? Unfortunate. I understand though, it seems for the best."
The boy looked towards the man, his eyes quickly analyzing the stranger that stood next to him with the gaze of a dog. Unfortunately there would be no sniffing to understand the Collector who stood in the background of the battlefield. Was it because he was a Civilian or just because he didn't feel like putting in any effort? To the others, they just knew he was a Civilian offering to help who was more than efficient than the new warriors and even the young SeeD that were protecting the perimeter. His suit seemed unmarred, his boots and tonphans the only pieces with him that were lathered in the remains of beasts. Kalen's eyes did not remove themselves from the stare that rested on him, knowing whatever this man was, it was dangerous.
The Collector flashed teeth, laughing. "Cat got your tongue, boy?" He was almost taunting, as if bullying this young man he had just met, "Or perhaps you're just upset that you were towed back here by that beast woman of a Trabian. From babysitting your mother to babysitting you...fitting, I guess. The little lad can't fight with his siblings and friends, a shame indeed." His right hand began to twirl the tonphan around like a drumstick, tossing it in the air and catching it to send the blood splattering over the ground before them. Kalen's body betrayed nothing, his stare looking at the man with no response, the normally catty young man caught in a stand still. Perhaps some of it was on point, and the words of his younger siblings and Aunt Selphie having him stuck in his own proverbial limbo. Still, Kalen said nothing, biting his tongue as he stared forward to be ready. Said suited man somehow grinned further, "Ah...too close to home. I'm sorry. Forgive me, I could just read it on your face. There's nothing wrong with being the weakest link, at least you know that they value you to...keep you away back here." Laughter followed the man, a deep and brutish tone, walking away towards another beast breaking through in the distance.
"Don't disappoint them, now."
His arms were shaking at the suddenness of the stranger. His tongue was bleeding as he kept staring forward, not giving the man any satisfaction. Whatever his issue was, it was apparent he did not like Trabians and Kalen was also disliked by proxy. Most Galbadians never even gave him that kind of treatment, but his appearance and obviously violent aura told Kalen that he was out of his league, his own morale already at a low. Kick me while I'm down why don't you. He thought, looking at the ground. Even standing out here seemed only for show, and the cutting words of the random man delivered their intended purpose. Kalen hated what he was doing and hated that he wasn't out there with his family. He had stood in the mountains of Trabia, crossed terrain most wouldn't dare to try, but he was still Guardian Force less and under trained.
"Dad...what do I do?"
There was no answer from the sky while he looked upward, inquiring to the heavens. Nothing at all. Said man was only visible through statues that he had sat with, trying to find answers in a stone that gave no response. Now here he stood, asking it from the sky. s**t...
That was when the ground started to rumble.
In the distance, a line of green started to form, seemingly small but topplings cars, stands and anything that stood in its way. Rubble shook, shaking the earth, the people who were holding the line starting to yell and step back, running to prepare for something, anything. "CATERCHILPILLARS! A STAMPEDE OF THEM!" Wh...what? His eyes widened as the horde started to come down the street, drawing closer and closer. They would overwhelm this line, the human sized caterpillars being a nightmare in person but an army would be impossible to stop. Unless...
Quickly, he grabbed his phone and called the Chocobo Hotel. "Let my bird go. Beaker, yes, send him towards the shelter line near the east side! I need him to catch me, fast!" Beaker was a racing quality bird, so he knew that the ride would get here faster than a regular animal, but he needed that bird to get here fast. Putting his phone away, he grabbed a few smoke and fire grenades from some SeeDs, thanking them as he charged forward down the street. "This is insane." He muttered, gritting his teeth as he scaled some cars and pulled out his sword. The horde would follow easy prey, they just needed to be made aggressive. Their mouths would inhale any scent that smelled like food, and their bodies would follow. The aggression would just assure that they wouldn't stray.
"Here goes nothing." he whispered, clasping the blade of his sword and wincing, biting his tongue at the pain until a stream of blood flowed from his hand. Good. Next, he raised his hand so the smell would reach them, throwing blood in an arch to the ground before him. "COME ON, YOU BASTARDS!" He roared, "COME CHASE THE BIRDIE!"
"OUIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII." Could be heard from the distance as the horde drew closer, Kalen sheathing his wakizashi and clenching his bleeding hand wincing. Hurry Beaker! He let loose a loud whistle, the bird traversing the remains of cars in the street. Now. He unclasped the frag grenade and tossed it towards the back end of the horde, now a few yards away, erupting in fire as Kalen hopped off the car onto the passing bird! Their aggression had been drawn, Kalen darting down a street that would lead the mass away from the shelters, a smoke grenade covering the street path that would have led them towards the civilians and defense line. "KEEP UP, YOU WIGGLY p***k!" His heart was racing as he held onto the bird, patting his neck as the bird warked in worry. "Just keep ahead of em, boy. Just keep ahead of 'em."
He unclasped his revolver now, looking backwards at the angry horde that followed him. What on earth was he doing....?
____________________________________________________ Raeka had to watch Mai fight. Because he couldn't properly raise arms to fight alongside her. He could tell she was worried. She wasn't fighting with the beautiful glee that she usually did. He knew that it did not help that she had been ripped out of sleep by her cybernetics, but his condition was only diminishing the usual satisfaction his girl had in a proper fight.
Of course now he dragged her down.
Raeka raised a hand to help. Nothing happened. He strained and focused and tried again. Nothing. He closed his eyes for a moment, focusing on Mai and parted his lips. "Haste." The clock effect took place, and his lover could feel her senses sharpen, reflexes heighten.
Perhaps he had been selfish. Maybe he could perform his duty indirectly.
Raeka focused. He began to rip the tabs that kept track of his vitals and the wires to the machines off, ignoring the screaming beeps that came afterwards. The boy used his upper body strength to throw himself off of the bed, just as Cerberus manifested by the bed. It's appearance threw the bed to the side as the crippled landed upon it.
God. That hurt. The boy let out a disgusting sound as pain wrenched his gut, yet even fighting through the pain he oriented himself to be with Cerberus. You're not fit to summon me anymore, boy. Raeka frowned, a nosebleed having blood trickle down his face. "Shut up. It's killing time." Good.
"You don't have to worry about me Mai. Don't hold back for my sake." The dog opened it's maws, and in triplicate energy beams rocketed past Mai, blasting a hole in the swarm before her. But it was clear this was taking too much out of him. ____________________________________________________
____________________________________________________ Running ragged. Rescue operations were a special kind of detail, and it took a huge weight on anyone in physical and mental fatigue. Seeing the dead, parents calling for their children they would never see again, and children who in turn would never see their parents again. It was hard, and Draak's inner toil was growing faster than he could normally shrug it off. These people weren't Trabians, they weren't prepared and built for a situation like this, and it showed in the eyes of all the people who had come to revel.
All in all, this was a total bummer and the whole thing was a chunder. Things were even worse at some of the shelters he had been at, waves of creatures were eroding the defenses, and at this last drop off some of the younger seed were asking the civilians for help.
Bogus. Draak ran back out in a combat jog just trying to keep his stamina for even more fighting, when he heard a clear call through the air, which immediately drew his attention. As well as the monsters.
"OUIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII."
The man only could mouth three words in surprise at the act he witnessed. Draak immediately broke into a sprint after the boy. His green eyes narrowing as he recognized the profile of the guy. Kalen. With practiced perfection, he javelin tossed his spear through the air, tapping the device on his wrist to have the back blades snare a building. With a quick jump leap to start momentum, he used the grappling hook to anchor to the spear and whip around the building after the boy and his chocobo.
Soon after the grenade exploded, the man landed with almost perfection on the back of the chocobo, carefully balanced as he stared down at Kalen. He seemed serious for a moment, before he brought up a thumbs up. "Bro! This is a wicked idea!" Azdaja casually speared a Caterchilpillar with a throw, once again using his grappling hook to return his spear his hand. "We're on a party wave now, dude. What's the rest of the plan?" ____________________________________________________
Rem, Yukiko and Nyale Team Rem had created a pretty well held chokepoint. Accuracy hardly mattered at that point as creatures would die and be replaced almost immediately by a new one clattering over it's still warm corpse. That being said, the bodies were beginning to pile and it was slowing down the approaches of the creatures. Even blinded as they were, crawling over everything and attacking anything they could was something they seemed mostly content for.
Until their strange faces showed a moment of fear as they heard a new sound. Some sort of shrill shriek. A black faced monster emerged through the side of a building, it's wide head being used as a ram as it easily crushed more than a dozen Geezers as it emerged. The three red eyes that was turned towards Nyale and Rem glowed a fierce red, and lobbing beams of red energy were flung in a barrage towards the girls. When they landed, they landed with ferocious fire magic, causing explosions all along the chokepoint.
More Geezers died. The bite bugs had some sense to fly higher and out of the way of the large black and blue monster. ____________________________________________________
In The Streets It seemed there was some success in Eden Cities defensive approach. While some citizens still stayed out of shelters, taking risky plays to help such as a certain tattoed blonde man. The arrival and assistance of more of the heavy hitters was helping the 1st Rank Seed relieve the lesser ranks.
In the north, Mr. and Mrs. Leonhart, the latter being the headmaster of Balamb Garden, had finally arrived to wrangle in the threat of the Ruby Dragon. Of course, the unnaturally resilient creature showed it's power with even those two being rebuffed at first. However the gunblade specialist and whip wielder were not to be discouraged so easily.
With the accompanied assistance of Tsitsho and Tori, the Ruby Dragon's time remaining was beginning to be counted by moments and not minutes. ____________________________________________________ The Everetts The South District was in trouble. The Malboro who had come here was beyond large. It's bad breath was covering more than just a street, but entire city blocks and none of the close range specialists could get close. It did mean more experienced members could attempt rescue operations, but maintaining proper hazmat gear and treating the afflicted victims of the creatures was... difficult. Awful.
At least, before a focused Tornado came swinging through. Funneling large amounts of the poisonous air away from the most affected areas and giving the lower ranking SeeD a chance to move in. The Headmaster of Winhill had arrived.
Alongside her was darker twin, the less patient of the siblings, the sorcerer supreme lashed out with a attack that unlike his sister's, was not meant to help the populace. At least, not directly. No he was more focused on slaying the creature as a Ultima spell went off, the sick black and green spell covering the district in a noxious light. ____________________________________________________
Yukiko had been quick to jump back to back with Nyale, taking out the various Geezards and Buels. She had to be quick about ripping out the various eyes, and teeth in these creatures. There were so many that it was like a drowning wave of monsters that she couldn't even comprehend seeing all at once. The sudden hissing sound of her LMG told her that she had run out of ammo, and she cursed under her breath as she dropped the magazine and reloaded her weapon, swinging her armblade through a Geezard that thought it was going to take a snap at her leg while she was trying to get her gun loaded. The sudden explosion in the sky and Rem coming in on a vehicle was a surprise, but a welcomed one. Without hesitation, Yukiko hopped on, quickly aiming her gun out at the flyers, taking out as many as she could along the way. Her other blades activated, unsheathing themselves as she prepared for further combat.
When they arrived at their chokepoint and took position, Yukiko moved like clockwork, following Rem's command to the letter. To her credit, Yukiko was not panicking under the stress of combat, her mindset well adjusted to hellish combat, but nothing quite so extreme as this. Hordes yes, unfathomable waves? That was new.
That was when she saw the creature. A monster of great danger. This thing was obviously dangerous from the get go. "Scan!" Just as she scanned though, the creature glared at her and its eyes lit up, firing its blast at her! "s**t!" She sprinted away from the edge where she was stationed, throwing herself across the rooftop while she aimed her wrist at the builing across from her, shooting out a grappling hook and yanking herself forward, hurling herself through a window as the fire blast exploded right behind her, completely shattering the entire wall and burning it. Yukiko shielded herself, covering her face as glass, wood, and rubble came flying at her. After taking a second, she looked out the hole and shouted to her two squad members. "REM! NYALE! IT'S A HEXADRAGON! IT HAS REFLECT ON IT! DRAW OUT A DISPEL FROM IT AND USE IT ON IT! IT'S WEAK TO WATER! DO NOT USE FIRE OR POISON!"
As the two Leonharts were battling the Ruby Dragon on their own, Tsitsho was the first to make his presence known to them by hurling one of his javelins into the dragon. The sheer strength from him was enough to send a shockwave and a sonic boom as it came smashing into the creature with the force of a divine strength. Reaching into his back quiver filled with more javelins, he took aim, hurling another at the Ruby Dragon. Tori, meanwhile, "Hastega! Protectga!" She casted on the group, boosting everyone's speed and protection against the dragon. Her rapid speed casting playing significantly here.
Babel and Varitas had arrived towards the Everetts, Babel having summoned out Hades while Varitas had sent out Odin. The two deity GFs stood side by side, readying their blades as they came charging forward at the Malboro. With Babel and Varitas being close ranged, they instead would have the GFs take the distraction while they provided support to Salem and Lisanna. "Firaga!" She shouted as her hand formed a massive fireball, hurling it at the Malboro, intending to have it explode violently into it.
Selphie and Irvine were taking on the Behemoth, Irvine opting to stay close to Selphie this time around due to the Behemoth casting meteors around the place. A sniper position was useless if there was no building left to snipe on. The area the behemoth was in was practically nothing but ruins because of its attack, and with such devestation, Selphie was reminded of her home. A pouty glare came as she stared down at that behemoth. "You're gonna pay for this one you big stupid meanie! SICK EM DOOMTRAIN!" And with very little buildings in the way, Doomtrain had a clear shot for the behemoth. Irvine meanwhile took aim and began to fire and unleash hell upon the beast, using his strongest ammunition to deal as much damage as possible to this thing before it even got the chance to get close to them.
Mai was completely taken back by the sudden haste she had gotten from Raeka, her head snapping towards him quickly with a glare, almost ready to yell at him to stop and get back into bed. But she stopped herself. Could she bear to sit in bed and watch Raeka fight alone? Or would she do what he was doing now?
The answer was obvious.
She gave her man a smile and a thumbs up, faking it mostly despite seeing him cough up blood. Tossing him her spare revolver, she spoke with a slight laugh. "HA! You're still going to push yourself despite having a gunshot wound? I'd say you're ******** crazy, but then, you're dating me!" She took her rifle, sniping another group of clustered flyers up in the sky making their way. Reaching into her back pocket, she pulled out a regular good ole grenade and pulled that pin, hurling it out of the window and watching it go off in the sky, blasting a good chunk of the bug bites that were out there. Etamara, hearing the commotion ran back inside, making her way back to Raeka's room to find Mai and him together, fighting. "OI! The hell?! You gonna get yourself hurt badly! If you want to move that badly, you better call me!" She huffed, not wanting her mentor's son to die so pointlessly. She took her instrument, and began to perform in the room, focusing her power into Raeka, his body feeling the effects of her music as she bolstered him, helping him feel able to move at a more comfortable level, if only temporarily.
The battle between the Iron Giants, and the duo, Koyuki, and Xaris, had been waging on in an intense barrage of bullets and slashes from the gunblade Koyuki wielded. Wave after wave she began to tear through them, and as time passed, so did her frenzy. Xaris was taking notice of this, Koyuki becoming more rabid, more ferocious with her strikes, being ruthless, savage, uncontrolled. Ixion began to display this habit as well, smashing through several Iron giants and aerosparking through several around it while taking damage more needlessly.
"Xaris! Your orders are to pull back! Get away from Koyuki right now!" Her orders came through, and instinctively she did just that, abandoning Koyuki entirely as she took off, shooting up a grapple hook and getting up to the building tops, prefering to get a vantage point to assist Koyuki rather than be near her. She had no intention of outright abandoning her, but the warning was enough for her to get back from the horror show that was about to occur.
Koyuki, before she realized it, as she charged in alone, had become entirely surrounded by iron giants. All of them looked down at her, some of them taking aim to swing down upon her or punch her, but she didn't look deterred or frightened. In fact, her eyes her wide with excitement. "HAHAHAHA COME ON YOU PATHETIC MONSTERS! SHOW ME WHAT YOU GOT!" She howled and screamed like a beast, sprinting forward towards the first one that took its step towards her. Her speed had increased greatly, and her raw physical speed became like a thunderstrike, bolting and jumping to the side as the Iron giant took its swing downwards upon her, smashing into the concrete and rupturing it, only for Koyuki to leap into the giant's chest and slam her lance into it, the force enough to send the giant flying back as a lightning shockwave shattered it and disintegrated it. She then pivoted, sprinted towards the next, leaping up into the air and clashing with another iron giant as it swung upwards to meet with Koyuki's lance. Unfortunately, the giant's lightning weakness was its own detriment, and the electricity shot through it, shattering it like a clay pot. Another Giant came, this time, managing to sucker punch Koyuki, causing her to skid back with her head realing back. But, she smiled widely, almost in pure ecstasy as she looked utterly sadistically feral at the iron giant that struck her. "THUNDAGA!" An explosive burst of lightning came from the sky, completely causing the area around the iron giant to be scorched in electrical burns, destroying the creature.
But, that was not the end of it. She was becoming manic, obsessed with the thrill of fighting. So much so that the bloodlust was getting to her and she couldn't help but laugh loudly. "Come Kaiju!" She shouted to the sky.
And dear lord, was he coming.
==========================
Kalen and Azdaja were currently on a fleeing spree away from the caterchillpillars that were chasing after them on the chocobo. For all the good that Kalen had done to lead these creatures away, he would find the sky to darken over the three of them. A silhouette forming that grew bigger and bigger, until he realized what was coming down. A loud monstrous roar could be heard that caused the entire area to reverberate from the sheer shockwave of its cry. Kaiju, like a falling comet, came smashing down right in the middle of not just several buildings, but onto the horde of caterchillpillars that Kalen had been fleeing from. The entire area violently shook as a cataclysmic quake shook the foundations of the area, and the beast roared. Its sole objective, to feast on the monsters. And so, it swung down upon creatures, regardless of what was in its way, buildings, streets, it did not matter, the beast was feral, as was his mother.
