Now, while chatspeak (or whatever you call it) is surely more of a threat to the English language (and others too for that matter), the internet is also a place where wrong versions of phrases become increasingly common.

Do you think this is a serious problem? I mean, everyone makes mistakes, internet or not.

I think chatspeak is much more serious of a problem on the internet.

It isn't so much a fault on the part of the mis-represented phrases, but a fault on the system in which we're supposedly relying on, for our grammatical needs.

The decline of literacy has only heightened since the early 1900's, mostly because of the belligerent raping of the 'American' language; moreover, the complete brutalization of a language that is already a hideous amalgamation of other gorgeous languages that should have been left alone.

Chatspeak in itself isn't a detriment to society; abbreviations are a deviant of chatspeak, in that they are used to shorten words, or even phrases in some instances. However, it is a catalyst, in that we've degenerated our attention to proper grammatical usage due to the gradual decline of intelligence. That, coupled with the obvious laziness factor that has crept its way into the children and often adults of this day and age, have managed to create an almost invincible anomaly of illiterate, uneducated, and poorly-versed individuals who can't withstand any sort of careful scrutiny of their verbiage.

Or, condensed, we have a bunch of freaking idiots who are too lazy to learn to speak properly, and it's causing a detriment to society and life as a whole.

Life is lovely, isn't it?
