Ah, the dynamics of any non-cannon pairing...
I have said it before and I'll say it again, unless it is stated outright that so-and-so is -together- with so-and-so nothing is cannon.
Naruto may crush on Sakura, but who burns his blood hotter?

There's a thin love between love and hate! SasuNaru rules! I like KakaIru a little bit more, but w/e... And for some odd reason, I like Orichimaru/Itachi too, but that's just weird...
And HarunoSakura05, there are no set pairings really. There are hints for everything, so SasuNaru is completely possible! Manga writers who don't have set pairings in their work always tend to give hints for every possible couple, it entices more fans that way.

Oddly enough, on Narutofan.com there was a poll there not too long ago. IT asked the some-number-odd Naruto fans registered there to vote on if they preferred SasuNaru or SasuSaku.
Guess which one won out by a significant margin?
I agree with you, Tear of Death. In every genere of anime and manga there are hints of all sorts of possible pairings, of any flavor, even as vauge as a cryptic word or a blushing glance. Or in Kishimoto's case, an accidental kiss that keeps popping up in flashing thoughts [and ending credits!].
Shonen it might be, seems like the manga-ka knows how to speak to the rabid yaoi fans.
