I highly doubt that they would ban it too, for the same reasons that Isobel mentioned. Also if they banned anime that would mean that they would have to ban alot of American animation films as more and more are starting to get that 'anime' type of feel to them. PLUS they'd also have to ban anime-stylized games (that WILL never happen in the US, guaranteed, not with games such as DragonBall, Kingdom Hearts, and Final Fantasy bringing in the largest sales of all video games on the market) which will be well over 1/2 of the entire video game market.
Ontop of all that they would have no justification in banning them. If they try to ban Hentai then they would have to ban ALL adult oriented films (again that will never happen). And frankly other than the Hentai movies there is ablsolutely no differences between american cartoons (other than drawing styles, and anime generally having better storylines) and japanese anime. Plus opening that can of worms would mean that they would have to look at adult american cartoons too, like South Park, Bevis and Butthead, and the Adult Swim comedy block...
We live in a America where freedom of speech is enforced, and Anime is simply a form of speech. They would have to amend the consititution and the federal laws inorder to ban anime, and I highly doubt that they would be willing to do that.

Honestly, I even got a PM about this.
Okay, there are many reasons why this WILL NOT happen here in the United States.
I know some of these have been pointed out, but I will copy what I said in the PM:
Okay, look, Bush can not ban Anime, it is literally impossible, and protected by the filming acts for the industry. Now, if Congress goes through and tries to ban it, they can be sued by the UCLA for taking racist actions against Japan and other countries for banning materials specificly made by them. Also, this would be a major blow to overseas shipping companies, which would only hurt the economy so much, but it will make a massive imapct on jobs based soley on oversea film shipments.
Another thing, if somehow Anime is banned here in the U.S., DOWNLOAD IT AND SHUT UP. ---
Also, I would like to say that I agree completely with what Dayanaria said about the video gaming part, as well as television.
