Out of curiousity, why is it that so many people are uber-fans of Norrington? He doesn't have the pirate-ness of Captain Jack Sparrow, and he doesn't get the girl like Will Turner. so what makes him so attractive to you people??
*Just so you know, I'm not a Norrington hater, just curious*

Well, I am just... I love the idea of his character.. it's incredibly complex... he now has a past a present and a future, and it's obvious he's changed a lot. He's incredibly dynamic, in that at the beginning, he was so high and mighty and now, he's down in the dirt with the rest of the folks. However, he's also changed in his attitude.. he used to be very straightforward, doing only what was for justic, but he acts quite treacherous in this movie... even though he's fighting for his own name, he is also throwing in some theavery and back-stabbing a little...
Meanwhile, he looks so good all scruffy... and I like him because he doesn't get the girl at all.. I mean when he sees the look she has for Jack, does he say "I wish you'd look like that while thinking of me."? No! He says "There was a time when I would've given anything to have you look that way while thinking of me." (or something along those lines)... he knows there's no more hope, and has given up on Elizabeth.. I just feel incredibly bad for him, and wish there was someone there for him... everyone has someone... I mean Will and Jack have both had a little Elizabeth now ^.~ But Norrington... he's just all alone! crying Poor guy!

In the first movie, I loved him for his strong sense of morals and duty. He didn't chase down pirates to be a jerk; he was upholding the LAW. After all, however much you like Jack, you have to admit that he is a criminal. Norrington was dignified, strong and noble. As he said, he was serving people other than himself. Norrington was not easily swayed from his position, and it was only when his ex-fiance begged him that he bent enough to let Jack go. Poor guy. I have a twisted fondness of seeing very proud and strong people breaking or in a very stressful situations. I like to see how they cope when they lose the things that make them strong. We get to see this with Norrington in the second movie. He's lost his job, his ship, his crew, his honor, his girl, his pride, his sense of duty...all of the things that made him so strong in the past are gone, and now he's terribly desperate and probably really scared. What's he supposed to do with himself now? How's he supposed to live? He could give up, but instead he does everything he can to get his life back again. It's not so hard to double-cross pirated after all, because he still believes that they are Evil and the law he wants to follow again is Good. Also, I loved to see such a stiff and proper man getting bitter and cutting lose. 4laugh He's always been my favorite, even before it was cool.

By remembering that I serve others, Mister Sparrow... Mm, everyone pretty much said everything that I like about Norrie too. And he's just attractive as hell and not cliche!
And I'm typical in a way, because I also find Jack very attractive. XD
Personally, I don't like Will all that much at all. :[ So I should ask what people see in his character, since there's ten times as many Will fans as Norrington fans.
Just my thought at the moment though. Not only myself.

If people who like Will can post why they dislike Norrington in any way, we should be able to discuss why we dislike Will.
Can I friend you? XD Not only myself.

I'm thinking that the Will fans can be attributed to Orlando Bloom fans. The character isn't particularly interesting, but the character's a good looking male who played an elf, so the girlies that had a crush on Legolas have a crush on him as well.
Norrington is an upstanding gentleman gone awry. I knew a lot of Norrington fans previous to the second movie's release and I asked what their fascination was with him, and general concensus was that he had a strong moral standpoint and is good looking.

I didn't really like Norrington in the first movie (he was too pompous), but in the second one, I came to respect his character better.

Ageless Bill Turner I'm thinking that the Will fans can be attributed to Orlando Bloom fans. BINGO! I like Will, sorta.. I mean, I like Orlando Bloom. Orlando Bloom, in my opinion, cannot act. Therefore, he's himself, therefore Will, as a transparent and wishy-washy character (in my mind) just shines through as Orlando Bloom... Johnny Depp can act! Every roll he plays, he is a different person. So far, I think Orlando Bloom has yet to prove that he has that capability...
