Seriously, is there anything more cheerful than a happy dog? I love little puppies and the way they bumble about, acting as if everything around them is absolutely fascinating. I love friendly dogs that come up and sniff my hand. They seem to know my faults... and like me anyway.

Some other things that cheer me up:
plants on the windowsill.
really good Italian food.
getting letters from friends (snail mail, that is!)
