Anyone have any suggestions for making this? I was talking with a friend of mine, and he suggested just making a basic cap shape, and then attatching a scarf of some sort to the sides....

well I think that fleace would be best (duh) and then just make the "wings" out of the same fleace. OR when your cutting out the pattern for the hat part...if you know were every thing is on the hat and were/how its going to be sown together, you could just cut out the wing's with that part of the hat, so that way you won't have a seam line. 3nodding

That would be TOO cool. I'm trying to picture it now... I have a scarf/hat thing that's similar, and I was gonna make another one, but it thought is was ytoo hard. I also suck at sewing. Lemme see... Take a Wide scarf and cut a triangle-ish section out of the middle.
See? Then sew the edges together. That'll give you a basic owlish shape. I'll add (very bad) pictures soon to show you what I mean.

I say you should just make the basic hat base then attach the wing bits later.

i found out it is possible to crochet a spiral...that could be used to make a seamless basic cap shape...
