Lust over Love

PostPosted: Wed Nov 08, 2006 3:07 pm

Well just last week I read a book that I thought was stupid and yet I just couldn't put it down.
The name was The Summer of My German Soldier by Bette Greene.
It was about a girl named Patty, who helps a Prisoner of War from Germany escape and live in an abanndoned place in her garage.
Though I thought it was very sad at the ending.
My favorite person was Anton, though I had suspicion that he was a *****. Since Patty was 13 and Anton was in his early twenties.
It didn't help that Patty confessed her love for him and he confessed his.
But I don't think they should have made a sequel to the book,
I think it should have stayed at one seeing as how the book is nothing without Anton.
And I just wanted to know if anyone has ever read this book.

Oh my gosh! I read that book about six or seven years ago. It was a very good book and the sequel to it is good as well, but not as good. I liked the first one but not the second.

I own this book! I bought it a while back when I really was too young to read it, but I will now that you've recommended it!

I read it a while back, and remember thinking what an idiot Patty was.

Sure, I read this book. It is not one of my favorites, however, it has its merits. At the time it was written it must have been very controversial. We tend to forget how much the Germans were hated in those days. We also tend to forget the reasons. When we read books, we must consider the era in which they were written. This book is worth reading.
