I think it is hard for a person with good grammar to talk to a big "slanger". I am friends with a few, but do you think it is hard? question

My grammar isn't the best, but it's good enough, and I usually hang out with people who use many, many slang words all the time.

I'm not particular with grammar when it comes to friends.

It'd be extremely peculiar to choose friends based on grammatical prowess or lack of it.

I'm friends with many people with inferior grammar and spelling. I don't care one way or the other how they type, I simply have my preferences for how I present myself.

I agree with Yami.

Why should it matter what their spelling/grammar is like, I pick my friends on their Personality!

True but it is difficult to socialise with those who see you as inferior as you do not 'slang'. 'Slang' is simply the language in a group or gang depending on the size, if you do not use or know this language or certain abbreviations then you are not seen as a gang member.

Disagreed. That is not the case.

I use slang alot, but I incorporate it into my sentences. Made up words don't offend me at all if they make sense. Words like "innit" and "Ionno" are fine with me. My speech is that of a redneck's actually. sweatdrop It is so much easier to use slang at times. To me, it is just another way of man using convenience to simplify his world. Of course, that ends with "txt tlk."

The two can totally work together. Using proper grammar doesn't exactly mean you can't use certain words, right? It just depends on the slang that you use. Saying something along the lines of, "That painting in the corner is tight!" isn't breaking any rules of grammar, but it's also using slang. Now on the other hand, "Dang yo, that painting right thur is tizight!" won't really work.

That doesn't break any rules of grammar either?

I know you should pick friends on personality. Alas, is it easier to be friends with someone of lesser grammatical use then you? question
idea Why not make your friends use good grammar. idea
Or is it rude?

I don't really have any friends that speak slang on a regular basis simply because I don't like what most of those people are interested in and because I don't get a chance to associate with them much. I am not trying to sound arrogant, it's simply the way things are with me.

I think grammatical use is one of the fewest things you could judge personality or interest on.

Appearence will judge a person's personality and interest before their grammatical use.

My opinion, at least.

What I meant to say was that in my school at least the people who speak poorly most often are the guys and girls that do drugs, get drunk, etc. whereas the people who have proper grammar are the ones who most often seem to share my interests. Don't get me wrong, they might like the same things I like but I have had bad experiences with those types of people before since most times they have always wanted to use me for their own advantages. This does not apply to all slang speaking people but to a majority of them. Also, doesn't a person's grammatical use go along with their appearance most of the time?
PostPosted: Sun Jan 28, 2007 10:09 am
Well first off, I was simply stating my opinion.
Second off.

No? How does it?
I have actually messaged people in the past on Myspace thinking that they would be pleasent to speak with, they look like intelligent people and as though they could string a sentance together without forgetting full-stops, but..

"lol hi hw r u?"

Was quite a common response.
I soon gave up.

I think it would be hard, yes.
But if the person that wasn't speaking slang, tried hard enough, they would get either use to it or understand it.

Slang and proper Grammar have lived side-by-side for many, many years. I think if people tried hard enough they'll get use to it, even if they don't use it themselves.
