The thing is that I wonder why there are those who try to act/say that they are "hxc" for any kind of musical subculture. Honestly, if you listen to the bands/artists of that genre and find an interest in/participate in the subculture of it, then that's it - there's no hierarchy.
But why do I have to hear some kid say something along the lines of:
"You'll never understand the darkness and pain that resides inside my soul... because you'll never be so hardcore a goth as me"
or
"Scars run up and down my arms, much like the feet of preps run up and down my body. I'm such a hardcore emo"
stare
True, the "hxc goth" is probably listening to too much Evanescence and the "hxc emo" wouldn't know how to respond if you said anything about Embrace...
But the sad thing is that this also happens with people who do know true goth rock or true emo rock... thankfully it doesn't happen as often as it does with the exaggerated examples above, but it does happen. It could just be with the unbalanced ratio of Bauhaus and Siouxsie fans to today's world of HIM lovers and Mansonites, which could cause someone of the former to think they are above the others, but I'm curious as to what you guys think.
IMO, hardcore is a more aggressive form of punk rock, not some badge to prove that you're better than someone.
