First and foremost.
WHAT THE HELL DOES IT EVEN MEAN??

I.e.:

'&& ilu;;'

Who would ever say 'And And' in the beginning of a sentence?

Secondly;

To see how annoying that would be, let me deminstrate.

&& As you can see, it's a little annoying.

&& Not to mention, it wastes time && it's lazy.

&& Just type the damn word 'and'.

...I feel as if I am ill with a fatal disease from typing that.

Uggg....

Anyone else have a major disliking for that damned '&&'?

I like ampersands. So I don't mind "&&" all that much, but I prefer to use only one.

It's like when people type "butbut".
I suppose it shows hesitation or uncertainty.
To be honest, it's not that annoying.

Mostly those of the "cute but random" persuasion use "butbut" and "&&" on Gaia.

I often use the & when writing, but never double. I never got that, I never know how to read it. Should you read it as 'and' or 'andand'?
I do think most kids think it's really cool and 'artsy'. Or something. neutral

    I agree with the other people who said that it was to show hesitance or nervousness; it's like typing, "andand" before.

It comes from programming, people.

if( condition1 && condition2 ) doStuff()

does stuff iff condition1 == condition2 == true

It's still annoying to use it in normal typing.

The other thing I find annoying is the way people use two punctuation symbols when they need one. For example, one of my friends sent this in an email:
Quote:
Hi;; hw r u?? [[love]] steff

Is this just something she does, or have other people encountered it too?

I've encountered the question marks before, and probably everyone has.

The double brackets are probably related to the way many people type OOC (Out Of Character) actions and words in role-playing forums.

for instance
Do you really think you can stop me? *evil laughter*

((Did you catch that new episode of Heroes? OMG!! <3))

And the only place I've ever seen the double semi-colon is in emoticons: ;;_;; (emo tears).

I've always used a set of two parentheses around my words when speaking out of character in the roleplaying forums...

Due to actionscripting, I'm doomed to murdering punctuation.

on(release) {
play();
}

_root=.mc.skin"skin"

stop();

if:ischeating
_bubonic=true;

Extracts from various scripts from a game.

Eugh. ActionScript is such a hideous butchering of standard code syntax.

I can't see anything too bad about AS 1.0/2.0, it's easy enough to pick up.

I think it's for aestethic purposes. I use it sometimes; especially for short pairings of things that are special to me

"Sherlock Holmes&&Skateboards"

Though, here, I would italicize it and underline. It's to show they belong together closely, for me.

As for double brackets, to me it signifies a boxing in of sorts; I use it in names such as [[sinfullylast]] or something. I guess it shows that it's deep within; a dark secret?
