Is correct spelling and grammar a rarity nowadays when it comes to PM's. There is a user I know called Hitokun who writes like your friend's ex on the forums. After being in the grammar guild for awhile now it really brings to light how many users need to work on their writing skills. Lucky that there is a guild like this one.
