At the end of volume 23, when Kenshin has that unexpected flow of energy and starts waling on Enishi, he says, "Go to sleep Enishi. When you awaken, you will be taught the truth of the situation. Then cast your Jinchuu on me. If you still desire to avenge Tomoe, I will gladly accept it."

My question is, was Kenshin offering his life in exchange for Kaoru's and Tomoe's? Was he doing there what the Seisouhen showed him doing on the island after he beat Enishi in the fight?

no. Kenshin was basically saying that when Enishi wakes up, kenshin will tell him the truth. If Enishi is still angry, Kenshin gave him the right to cast Jinchuu on him

Yeah, I agree with BlueJay. If, even after knowing the truth, Enishi still wanted to kill him Kenshin would allow him to try to. I think the main thing was that Kenshin didn't want Enishi to end killing anymore people over a situation that he didn't know the whole story to.

wouldn't surprise me if he did want to give his life for kaoru, he really cares about her and as for seihousen, it's complete bull crap but it may have gotten something right from the manga

So the correct way to interpret is, Kenshin would accept Enishi's challenge to a duel, not that he is offering his death to placate Enishi's thirst revenge.

that is if Enishi was still angry at him. i think that Enishi would still hate him for killing Tomoe because when you go on that long thinking that the man you hate the most killed someone you love intentionally, it would take alot more than that to forgive someone. So if he still feels the same way, Kenshin would accept a duel.
