I suppose it depends on where you're from...
I pronounce it: "thu"

I believe that, technically, before a consonant it's 'thu', and before a vowel it's 'thee'. I don't think many people hold to it though. Most people just pronounce it 'thu'.

You didn't capitalise your 'I' in the second sentence, despite there being a whole sticky on it. 3. the words in speech marks should be in quote marks. 4. You missed the full stop on the end of your second sentence. 5. Your title is completely capitalised. Needless. Come back when you've actually got decent grammar, or quit the guild. Right now.

I sometimes pronounce it 'thuh' and sometimes 'thee.' One pronunciation sounds better than another in some situations.

It says that it is pronounced "thee" before a vowel and "thu" before a consonant. Hope that helps. wink

I say both depending on what follows the "the."
I tend to say, "thee," if the word following begins with a vowel, and "thu" if the word begins with a consonant.

Well, I never knew that rule. I follow it, but I never knew it. I suppose it just sounds right.
"Thu apple" sounds weird, as does "thee train".
Ouch. I just hurt my tongue.

I was going to say that it's pronounced differently depending on what it's prefacing... but you beat me to it. Actually, I didn't even know that rule.

Either that's something I learned back in school and later forgot, or they just never told us about the different pronunciations of "the". Thanks! I believe that the other pronounciation, "thee," is often used for emphasis. I believe that can be figured out. exclaim Okay, Satomi here does have poor grammar in her first post, but the information is useful, neverthless.
