Traditionally, I don't hold any significance toward birthdays or growing closer to death, but my most recent birthday feels different.

As of this past Monday I am now 20 years old.

To me this is a significant birthday - akin to turning 10 or 13 - because I am no longer a teenager.

Society tells us we have to grow up, but I am such a kid at heart. Just yesterday my boyfriend and I were outside blowing bubbles and acting like two year olds.

A few weeks ago I asked a little girl at my congregation what she wanted to be when she grew up.
Her answer: "a mermaid".
I was so surprised by her answer - and tickled aquamarine.

Things like this make me never want to grow up. And I probably won't.

That aside, I do act my age or older when necessary. But I rather enjoy being blithely juvenile.

So I suppose we shall discuss:

- Birthdays.
- Growing older.
- Acting your age.
- What you wanted to be when you grew up.

Happy late birthday to you! 3nodding
As for me, I'll be turning sixteen in a few weeks... but I feel indifferent. It's odd, when everyone mentions their "sweet sixteen" like it's a rite of passage.

My best friend from high school turned 25 yesterday. I had her over, and had a whole bunch of things set up.

There was a banner in our doorway saying happy birthday with cree paper under it.

I got her a present of her favorite type of cookies.

We had a mini cake and some ice cream including cones.

We went to the video arcade and played DDR and a few nostolgic games.

I think just because you get older doesn't mean you have to act stuffy and boring all the time. Sometimes you have to do boring things like balance the checkbook before buying a whole bunch of goodies, but that doesn't mean you can't have fun. Forget what society tells us as far as having to grow up. As long as you can manage your life, who cares if you like to blow bubbles or play games. I can't stand it when people at work are at work on their birthday of all days. It really grates on me. You should still be able to celebrate and make a bit to do about something like. It shouldn't be "just another day".

Anyway, I'm getting a little ranty now, so I'll leave it at I think you should be able to have fun regardless of age.

I am the youngest in my class and among my friends, but I have always acted older than my age. I am more mature than almost all of my friends, and it really annoys me when I'm trying to have a serious conversation and the person I'm talking to is acting like a squirrel and won't speak proper english.

I'll be turning 16 in a few months, and yeah, it'll be great being able to drive, but it kind of scares me. I'll be graduating in 2 years, and it seems so close. What happens if I don't do it right and I'm a complete failure? What happens if I can't get my plans organized (and actually thouhgt out) by then? Will I just assimilate into the flow of all the others who couldn't make something of myself? But most of all: What if I can't do it? It scares me so much, I have to stop thinking about it and distract myself with something else.

So, cookie, anyone?

I havent ever been able to 'act my age'... I am 15, and currently in 11th grade... so that's just way out of line for my age group. Secondly, I either act very mature, or completely random and 5 year old ish... with added 12 year old boob, p***s, and fart jokes (that's only on occasion, though). Most of the time, I'm confused with the people in my grade, and people act shocked when I tell them I'm 15, so... yeah... I never really act my age... if there is a uniform way to do that.

I never had a sweet 16, so it's sweet 17 for me in August. I'm pretty weird when it comes to acting my age. One moment I'll be completly random, then I'll act like a sad kid, and the next thing you know is that I'm acting more mature that my thirty-some uncle.

Even though I'm getting older, my life time resolution is to never stop thinking like a kid, but to act mature when the need arises. And to eat 17 pounds of pockey in one sitting.

OH LORDY! I totally forgot to wish you happy birthday!
I'm so sorry me! FORGIVE ME!

This August, I'll be turning 19. The odd age, in my opinion. It's nothing like 14, where you become a teenager. Nothing like 16, when you can start signing legal documents and drive, for you are now the age of majority (in my state). Nothing like 17, where you can go see a rated R movie without your parents ^_^. Nothing like 18 when you can join the military, buy cigarettes, stay out all night and day, go into some casinos and bars, strip clubs, porn shops, (I don't go into casinos bars, strip clubs, or porn shops. Only there for mere mention of capability granted at such age).

19 is like, the really odd age. All of a sudden, LIFE HITS YOU IN THE FACE. High school is usually over for you. College looms right in front of you. You have to decide your life from here on out. No longer being a kid time, well, you can still be a kid but you have to be an adult now too.

For me, this birthday is going to be fun, but just plain out weird.

Honestly, I just want to skip 19 and 20, and go straight to 21. >.>

I don't really act my age. As Emily so knows, I'm very mature. But I can also act just like a kid, especially at the store when I want something ^_^.
Really, I act like a kid to get laughs out of people, but other than that, I'm over all just a mature person, I think

It seems that the older I get the more child like I act.
When I was younger, I was really seriouse about school and when all the other little kids wanted to be princess' or Fire Fighters, I wanted to be someone that could change the world. I didn't know what, just as long as I made a difference.
I was one of those kids who would sit alone at recess reading instead of playing. Eventualy I decided that the only way I could change the world was if I wa a vampire, but I had no luck in my week long search for one to turn me.
Now I'm only seriouse when I have to be, and even though I'm still a book worm, I'm more like the kids I babysit then some of the other people my own age. PLaying dress up & hopscotch. xP
Unlike my dreams from when I was younger...I know that I can't make a difference in the world, it would take more than one small teen to do that, but I still want to reach people through my writing, both fiction and non, and make a difference that way.
sweatdrop So I guess my dream is still the same, it's jut my methods that have changed.

Alot of the time I am "the mature one" within my groups of friends. Even when I am around adults and teenagers older than I am, people always say that I am very mature in adult topics. Even in being mature, I still like to have fun, such as chasing my sister around the house or even playing hide and seek. It is very true: age doesn't matter when you are having fun.

I act like I'm 5, 16, and 27.

When I'm happy I usually turn to 5-year-old me. I giggle and get a stupid sense of humor. That being said, sometimes (smoking or engaging in sexual activities) I act like a teenager. When I get mad or sad, I turn 27 and take things maturely (and intelligently evil).

I like birthdays or at least to I like the free stuff. My last birth I basicly didn't do anything special which is kind of funny because It was my 16th birthday most of the time its a big one but it was my smallest yet.

Belated happy birthday!

At the risk of offending just about every other poster, I can't stand people who act younger than they are. They don't come across as fun people to me, they're immature and damned annoying.
I've always acted more "mature" than the average person of my age, that's just how I am. Sure, I enjoy jokes, but not constantly. I don't like practical jokes, teasing, playing games (like hide and seek or tag), giggling over toilet humor, gossiping... holidays and birthdays are, in fact, just another day. I'll never understand why some people consider them special. You won't catch me out drinking myself into a coma like most teenagers, either!

Happy late Birthday.

I turned 18 a couple months ago. It's been amazing doing things I couldn't do before. The day after I turned 18 I signed for my first cell phone. I felt so big signing important papers. While I have the maturity of an adult, I'll never stop having fun like a kid.

I'm 20 and I still act like a teenager.
Age is only a number. I seriously don't feel like an adult, but then again that may be the whole "kid at heart" thing everyone talks about.
What really bugs me tho is when people tell me I'm old, like 13 or 14 year olds. Jut a random rant, but come on!
