You can get a pet such as a dragon (which is in my signature), an angelic fox, a demon fox, or a unicorn. You chose the gender of your pet, name it, raise it, and if you want to you can even breed it. To find out more click on the link below: http://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14120469

Taking care of it is basically feeding it. You feed your pet by clicking it. If you don't take care of it I don't know what happens since they can't get sick or die. I just feed my dragons when I get home and they're fine. They're really easy to take care of.

I did get a unicorn (see signature), and although I am the primary feeder even though I am on only sporadically, he is always happy and nothing happens to him.
