Whips. But only females can whip me. heart

So, I'm back after apparently last logging in here in MAY. Or maybe it was April.

I just seem too busy with my other sites like Fur Affinity forums, facebook, and other places.

Actually, surprised I'm not banned from FAF, as I acted snarky to one of the admins over there who's comments about conservatives, liberals, the debt, and communism/socialism lend me to believe he's right wing and thinks left-wingers are evil.

I mean, he basically was going on about how Nazi germany was left-wing and socialist because the party had the word "Socialist" in it. Despite all the communists executed and put into camps by Hitler's party.

And another guy who's been saying anyone who likes socialism/communism/marxism is evil because he had family members killed during Che's revolution.

I can't figure out if those on the right are afraid of the idea of Socialism because they still think it's the cold war or red scare, or they just fear the idea of the poor having power.

I see too many times when people on the right say socialism=marxism=communism. When they're all related but different things.

From what I've read, fascist ideology involved government support for businesses. Different from communism, since this is actively supporting business over people. It's also different from 19th century economic liberalism, in which the government was to be completely hands off.

This has the funny but unfortunate side effect of making America's current economic policies closer to fascism. (For those getting upset at this claim, remember that I'm talking about the economic policies of fascism, not the social policies.)

Anyone who equates socialism with communism isn't worth the seconds wasted in thinking about them. Nine times out of ten they'll ignore any good of alternative ideologies while repeating the bad, all the while ignoring the bad of their own. No ideology is without bloodshed, and no ideology is without faults. Even "good ol capitalism" causes just as much pain and suffering as any other ideology. It just shifts the problems, creates new ones, or dumps them on others.

...Besides, everyone knows the only tried and tested true government that works is an aristocracy. Thousands of years proving it works, only to be supplanted by some upstart notion of democracy? Please! We''l be back! We always will be! mad

This weekend was apparently a Grownup Weekend. Hubby & I went shopping for a new mattress yesterday, found a super fantastic one (this one-- so comfy~ ♥), and went back to order it today (it was super on sale this weekend *thumbs up* X3); bought a $20 coffee table with a shelf at IKEA; and even did the laundry & cleaned the apartment! I feel accomplished. X3 ♥

Man, I never want to get into a car accident ever again (not that I wanted to in the first place). Settlement s**t is a real headache. Nationwide (the other person's insurance) is most certainly not on my side.

First birthday present (my birthday's on the 29th): new inline skates! Hubby bought these for himself, too, so we can skate together. We went to a paved bike/skate circuit and oh man, it felt so awesome to be skating again. I really missed it. ♥

It's too bad Sune isn't around here.

I think she mentioned she was in the SCA. I've been thinking of joining. BUT, I hear that to go to an event you're supposed to be dressed up. Yet I have no idea where to buy clothing, or resources that show how to make clothing that looks nice. So it's the chicken and the egg. At the events I'm sure I'd find someone to help me with clothes but how can I go without clothes?

Sune to the rescue! X3

First step I would take is to find a forum for your local barony/shire/what-have-you (I would check the website for your location) and put out a call advising that you're a newb but you are very interested in attending an event near you and are worried about garb options.

Don't worry; since you're a newb, they shouldn't mind if you're not dressed to the nines. I'm in Æthelmearc, and we're all pretty chill about stuff like that, especially with newbies who show that they really want to dive in. 3nodding

Also, big events usually have a Gold Key, which has, among other things, loaner garb. You can also find a sewing circle that way, if you're inclined to make your own garb or find someone to make garb for you. 3nodding

I'm just curious, but is this some kind of LARP or Renaissance fair thing? sweatdrop

...
Or this all somehow related to Lee's previous comment...

SCA is kinda like LARP or Rennaissance, but leaning more towards being as authentic as sanely possible. Researching the past and doing things the way they did. Some of the people at the local SCA group I met recently said they also LARPed.
SCA also seems to lean a lot on things like combat with swords and steel armor and stuff.

The articles I've seen that aren't missing because they were on geocities suggest that a basic tunic is a good thing to start with, although the patterns I don't understand. I guess you cut fabric out in those shapes and sew them somehow. Also, cloaks seem to be rectangular or circular and wool, I wouldn't mind one but I suppose they're hot in the summer.

My local SCA is the Barony of Cynnabar, region of Pentamere (Michigan), in the Midrealm or Middle Kingdom (great lakes area)

Edit:
Oh, would Sune know of any good websites for buying/trading clothing or with patterns or ideas on clothing?

Yep, the SCA is pretty much a LARP thing, but with an emphasis on realism. 3nodding

Oh, cool, you're really not that far from me. :3

Sorry, I don't know any pattern sites offhand; I'm not much of a sewer myself. X3 I would suggest Googling the time period you're most interested in and going from there. That's what I've done (haven't made anything yet, but I've got a wealth of ideas). Of course, I have it kind of easy; my persona is a Florentine Renaissance cloth merchant who lives part-time in Venice. X3
