I just joined faf not too long ago.

Lee i dont know why you go on there. Its so horrid. Its like the GD on gaia. Its so full of ugggh. Frankly i dont know why i still go on it myself. Nothing is informative, all the posters save like five appear to have an attitude of a 15 year old, as most of them are only 15.

And lee why is azure such a bleeding c**t? Seriously.

I wish this forum was more busy and interesting cause then i wouldnt want to go to faf. With that said welcom back lee i missed you in a most heterosexual way.

It's like the GD but a lot more intelligent. The GD is like a mild version of /b/. FAF is 20% cooler.

The thing is, most of the people on FAF are 100 times smarter than the idiots on Gaia. They just act really pretentious because of it.

As for the SCA, I got onto the local mailing list. It seems most of the local events are either combat or garment making/wool threading. There's a guy locally who has an archery range. There's also a science and arts group which is about the only thing that seems interesting to me.

The mailing list is confusing at times. They mentioned something called Pennisic once. Half the time I don't know what they're talking about if they're acting in character.

The noob liaison says there will be noob workshops soon. Not sure when that's gonna happen.

PENNSIC! It's the biggest SCA event, and it's held practically in my backyard! No, seriously, the campground is about half an hour (I think) from my apartment. X3

Hmm, I'm not sure if you're posting in the right areas.

Most of the people that post regularly, mostly in places like The Den/Off Topic/Rants and Raves are trollish. If you're a noob, they kinda treat you like one until they get to know you and see that you're okay. They've gotten way too many new people who act like immature teens and it makes them testy with the newfags. Somebody will come on all murry purry and make some stupid intro thread where they're like "HAY GUISE I'M A FOX (FUX) FUR WITH A GIANT p***s WHERE'S THE RP FOR CYBER?" and the regulars will rip them a new one (it's entertaining to watch, at least).

This place isn't a hugbox. People will act snappy at each other. A lot of the people are pretty smart and will call you out if you do stupid s**t. You type in leet speak, they chew you out. You assert an opinion as fact without hard data or logic (especially if it's right wing crap), they expect you to prove yourself or stfu. You act stupid, they jump on you. Only the regulars have shown themselves to be intelligent enough and not stupid to actually earn respect.

Also, the boards are a refuge for people who are tired of the "typical furry murry purry" porn and yiffing and attention-whoring s**t.

I am curious to what caused you to not like them, if there's a specific thing?

You know, I think I'm agreeing with you some Jungle about FAF being kinda...

...filled with idiots. I admired some of the people because they seemed smart. But I started a thread about the execution of Mr. Davis, the black guy accused of killing a white cop in the deep (racist, bible thumping, red-state) south. The one that was all over the news. I don't approve of the death penalty for the most part, except maybe for serial killers, dictators, and Justin Beiber.

But it scares me some of the responses on this thread. Someone I once admired said she supports the death penalty. Two people said (seriously, I think, and not sarcastically) that we should have gladiator tournaments, because people getting our jollies of of watching real people slaughter each other shows just how civilized we are! A fundie born again is finding bible verses to support it. Someone said they should use lie detectors despite the fact lie detectors only measure nervousness.

I give up on humanity. You're all ******** up. gonk

I never get involved in death penalty crap because none of the arguments work and it's always always about vengeance and never about justice.

We won't be certain of guilt and innocent until our technology gets to the point where lying is impossible and evidence always exists. Much as before fingerprint analysis, we had no way to prove someone held a weapon, we may later find new methods of analyzing crimes and finding evidence we cannot currently find. Regardless, until that point, innocents can and will be caught up in this system and that makes everyone guilty of murder, well, that's not the legally correct term...killing an innocent person works though.

But I guess it's okay when the masses decide whether someone can live or die... Democracy doesn't absolve people from doing wrong.

It also doesn't prevent anything. Thousands of years of torture, cruelty, and death, and yet crime still happened. What people don't like to accept is that, in all likelihood, crime will be reduced because we're taking steps towards asking why these things happen and trying to prevent crime from happening. It's less sci-fi predictions and more sociology and psychology. But that's not entertaining. No, people want to be entertained by the misery of another. Your example is blatant, but even the small satisfaction of someone "getting what's coming to them" is just entertainment. That's all it's about really. It isn't about justice, it's pleasure in being able to do the same cruel things to another and hide behind "justice" and "putting things right". Lawful evil alignment anyone?

It takes more effort, a f*** ton of work, to be forgiving, to say "no, I don't want more suffering to take place", and to want the other person to be changed for the better rather than killed by sensational trial. Victims can scream all they want, but when they act no better than the criminal, then perhaps they are no better? That's justice, unfortunately. Can't forgive? I'm sorry, I really am. It's got nothing to do with the criminal though, because it's completely internal. That hatred and sorrow will never go away with the death of another. You can try covering it up with the satisfaction in the death of another, but now you have killed someone. You took their life just as they took someones life. How are you different? How? Because the law says so? Because the majority was on your side? How large must a hollow victory be before it feels right?

Meh, it's all philosophical ramblings, I know. But those are the questions never asked. It's always "did he/she do it?", with death or release as the only courses of action. Innocence never factors into it, only vengeance.

So I'm sure everyone knows, but just in case. . . Steve Jobs died on Wednesday. And I'm still actually pretty sad about it. I feel like I lost a close relative, even though I never knew him.

I don't know what else to say, really; I just wanted to get it out there.

I took my cat to the vet this morning because he developed a weird lump under his skin. I was not expecting the news I ended up getting.

It could be a reaction to the depo injections (steroids) he gets every month, as it is in the same area that they give shots, or it could be a cancerous tumor. They won't know unless they cut it out...But the vet is hesitant to do that since he also seems to have developed a heart murmur and it's dangerous to put him under for surgery.

So, we decided to wait and monitor him for tumor growth and other signs of illness. The vet also strongly recommended an ultrasound for the murmur. They took some blood work as well, and I'll know a little more when the results come back, hopefully tomorrow.

I hope the best for you and you're kitty. Hopefully it isn't anything too serious. It sounds like it is just from the shots, but vets do have to consider every possibility when they can't tell for sure. A vet has to take the stance of the worst possible condition for the unknown. If a dog isn't on heartworm preventive, the vet has to assume that the dog has heartworms. If the sick puppy doesn't get a parvo test, the vet has to assume it's parvo. Etc, etc. So don't get too freaked out by the vet saying it's cancer. They just don't want to say it's not cancer when they don't honestly know.
